Gloucester Docks fills with Mud

- Historically Gloucester Docks fills up with mud from the nearby River Severn. For 80 years up until the year 2000 this mud was removed by a bucket dredger. Nowadays several methods have been tried but none as successful as the bucket dredger. This year is proving to be disastrous with the dock basin full of mud and vessels stopped from entering the docks.

Thanks for an another interesting film. I really enjoy your content 👍
So nice of you
Fantastic video, my Dad was on the tug boats in Sharpness and the dredgers
I have have met him sometime.
Just brilliant, Chris - thank goodness for your forthright and accurate summary of the problem!
My pleasure!
Brilliant explanation. CRT have been delinquent in managing Gloucester Docks. We were there in our narrowboat 2 years ago and the mud was within 4 feet of the surface where the pontoons are, so the lack of dredging is not just last year.
Excellent video 👌👌
Super explanation Chris, thank very much.
Thank you, as I have said before, why don't they learn from the past?
Wonderful content thank you. Sure looks like the efficiency of mud removal has dropped substantially since you were involved personally blessing some Southern Oregon
Problem is crt haven't got any money. The biggest issue is when the flower mill at Tewkesbury closed the barges have not kept the partings clear down to Gloucester hence the build up of silt coming into the docks. Crt response at the meeting was we are learning from our mistakes
I agree
I’ve offered them my services again Chris without luck! John Thompson
Your dad's not happy about state of the docks!!
The G&S is one of the best canals. The remainder of the system is woeful. Here on the Erewash a sunken boat was reported 4 months ago and is still there. As to when it was last dredged is anyone's guess
The motorised hopper barge is c & rt old boat called teme... which they sold recently for peanuts.. lol
I agree
Bob Green, the former dredging foreman, Cyril Nash, the section Inspector in charge of the Docks must be turning in their graves. Does anyone remember them?
I'm guessing that it's the usual penny-pinching that ends up costing more than it saves. As always, penny wise, pound foolish.
Exactly
Sounds like there’s someone in an office, who’s had a bright idea. Heading his proposal, are the words, ‘Re-inventing the wheel - the triangular solution’.
It’s called “preventive maintenance” and it costs far less than all the messing about AFTER there’s a problem…😮
I think the river is full of silt as well hens all the flooding we are seeing.
Hens? Chickens are causing flooding?😂
@@lrcb40 I Cant Spell I ment to say Hense all the flooding
They are not properly dredging any canals in the UK. Probably spending more money on desk bound jobs.
