Some footage of me hand lettering a 1929 Ford Huckster. The owner had vinyl on the doors beforehand and decided to have hand lettering done to make the truck more period correct.

A really nice job. I am 70 and come from Scotland. I used to work in a garage when I was young, and Sign writers used to paint the van logos. They used chalk to mark it out. brilliant to watch, like you. Great video.

Nice work, Jen! I'm doing a truck that just BEGS for a patinaed lettering job----it's faded/chipped/rusted, but customer wants the lettering to look 'new'! AAAARRRRRGGG! I showed samples and tried to reason with them, but he blames his wife and it will be new bright lettering. Beggars can't be choosers I guess..... Just a thought about the open grain of Oak, etc.: I wonder if you could use a similar trick I read about for taping other rough surfaces which is to just brush all the places where the letters meet the tape with the background color (or in this case, maybe just clear One Shot), and then letter with the color, the idea being that if any clear seeps under the tape it won't be visible and it will 'seal' the edge, which is then lettered with the color. It doesn't look like you had any trouble with paint bleeding in the grain, though.

It's always nice to see your videos. Why remove the tape from each letter and not wait until the whole word is finished and then remove it at once? Is it because the color dries out too much and can ruin the letter?

Hey Rudy, the longer you leave the tape on the sharper the edge will be on the with the paint for some projects its best to peel away as you go if that is not the look you are going for.

i use FBS gold tape or finesse edge tape. both are very low profile, the fbs is low tack, the finesse can do sweeping arches the fbs cannot
