@@JohnPaulDaviesTTP would you describe counseling as high stress? I am in a field now (studying for it) typically talked about as high stress, but it is also high ish pay and good job security. But I am a type B personality, calm and laid back, pretty emotion focused in my own life. I feel like cultivating a calm environment for counseling as a practitioner would be the dream. Yes it’s hard to think it will take four years to get there, but most careers take about as long
Hi there, there are some aspects to running my own business, at times working with clients and also doing the media work that can result in occasional stress, but absolutely for me, more often than not, I feel calm combined with a real sense of aliveness. I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else I have to say
Hello! Thank you very much for the great video. A question, do you need a phD to become a therapist in private practice? I know it depends on country/state or territory but I suppose I am asking just in general. I already have a bachelors so the thought of going back to get a masters is very doable:) A phD on the other hand...not so much
Thanks for sharing ! I decided to go to school to help people through psychology. I’ve overcome my BPD and over came a rough childhood as an orphan and feel I come from a better position to help people. More so than those who never even experienced the hardships of mental illness but try to tell others about it.
Hi, thanks for your message, sounds amazing what you’ve been able to do and certainly, to me, puts you in a great position to really help people. I hope it all goes well for you and do feel free to let me know how it all goes if you feel like it
Thanks for what you say about the video, I really appreciate it. As far as finding new clients, when I started clients came from four main places: referrals from the place that I trained, from the therapists directories I was on, through a Google Ads campaign I ran and also through friends and family etc who were aware I’d started to practice. Although at times in the past I’d get nervous if a client ended, I haven’t found it difficult as a pattern to find clients and have had a waiting list for some time now, which is great. I’d now add social media, general word of mouth and returning clients to where clients come from too. By the way, I think it might be a benefit being a man in some ways because there so few male therapists around and I also live in an area where lots of people can afford private therapy. These two things also play a part in having a waiting list too I suspect.
@@bun_mum thank you so much, yes, qualities wise I’d say it was consistency and patience that were needed, but certainly the latter is easier said than done in my experience 😊
Hi, it’s a requirement for all therapists who are registered/accredited in the UK to have supervision no matter how qualified or experienced they are. So, yes, we can have both supervision and a full practice (if all is going well 😊). Thanks for the comment
Really concise, informative and helpful, as usual! Thank you 😊
Thank you, very grateful for your comments 😊
Thanks for making and sharing this video. Quite interesting!!!
You’re really welcome Mel, kind of you to say, I appreciate it
Looks like a beautiful way to spend a day!
Thanks, it definitely is, am very grateful. Planning to upload a video about the challenges soon (although there aren’t many!)
@@JohnPaulDaviesTTP I can’t wait!!!

Lovely video! Do you do your walks in the winter also? 🥶
Yes, I do indeed, rain, shine or even snow! 😊 Thanks for saying about the video, I really appreciate it
Hi, great video! I'm wondering, how do you find clients as a newly qualified counsellor? Is it quite difficult?
Thanks for what you say about the video, I really appreciate it.

@@JohnPaulDaviesTTP Thank you so much for your reply. I guess it does take a little time to build a client base. Wishing you all the best!

Is it hard to find clients while you’re still under supervision? How do you?:)
