    The ingenuity using gas struts is awesome. I’ve electronic actuators to incorporate into projects. Price goes up but the cool factor is off the charts. Your wife might enjoy the push of a button type of action.

    A video on building another one of these contraptions for your new chop saw would be sweet. Especially since I think it would need to be a bit more heavy-duty than this one due to load/stability for cutting. Very cool concept and a great way to free up space in the shop. Keep it up dude.

    Really clever build! This gives me some ideas as I start to add tools in my workshop as well. I've got 14 foot walls and don't really need that height except in the middle. Hmmmm...

    Thats a great idea. I think most of us are running out of space in our shops.

    Great idea. Things like this make me wish that when i built my house I specified that the garage had no sheetrock in the cieling.

    Your a fab genius. Some of the stuff you think up is amazing. The Table saw fab table and belt sander are ones I'm for sure going to build. And this if perfect. While my shop is a bit bigger then yours, storage space is still at a prime. Thanks for the great ideas keep them coming...

    Nice idea and execution ! In the distant past when heavy wooden windows needed to be opened and closed. They had a rope secured to the top and there was a pulley at the top of the window frame. The rope was attached to a long narrow cast iron weight that was hidden in the wall. (Sash Weights) The weight acted as a ballast and assisted you in opening and closing the window so if it slipped from your hand it wouldn't break the window glass. In your project you would probably need to use a cable instead of a rope but you get the idea I'm sure. Love your channel

    Well, after recently coming across your channel, and watching your weld table series, and a couple other videos, I subscribed, and picked up the same table saw to build my welding fixture table for a good, flat table, for upcoming build projects! Also picked up and did the tig pedal cord “clean up” with the 3/8” coil ari hose on my primeweld 225x. I definitely like seeing these “space savings” videos! Keep up the good work man!

    Was thinking can maybe use two strings for the latch with like a pulley, along with a push stick of some sort to get into position, so neither of you have to get up on a stool? Awesome and great space saving thinking.

  • @rjung_ch

    Do it for the chop saw, it'll be good.
    Maybe have stronger shock helpers installed?

    looks good but i would still secure it with a secondary lock of some kind especially if you live in earthquake or tornado country.

  • @frankieoffroad
    @frankieoffroad 11 місяців тому

    Could you add a spring like an attic door uses, to pull to door closed? I would think no need to push up then. Just pull down like an attic. I would still use the latch as a safety feature.

    Just found your channel. Really enjoying it. 'Go build something' is my motto. How do you calculate the upper mounting point for those kinds of struts? I've used them in a couple applications for opening or closing things, but always just figured it out by trial and error vs actually having a clue why it ended up working.

    • @amcustomfab
      @amcustomfab  10 місяців тому

      If I'm being honest I can't say I used any special formula. I just kind of eyeballed it and got lucky . That's also the reason I drilled a bunch of holes in the bracket so I had options to try different geometry out. Thanks for watching, really appreciate the support 👊😎

    Very nice build and a great idea to gain space. When the laser is renning is there any vibration that could cause a miss cut? Thank you for the informative video. Keep them coming.

    • @amcustomfab
      @amcustomfab  11 місяців тому

      Thanks ..The Gantry on it is very light so there's very little vibration. But I did also make a place that it can clamp in the down position in the event that is a thing 😎

  • @LilGassysGarage

    In a space that is cramped this is appealing
    In earthquake country I'll have to think about some seismic safety

    • @amcustomfab
      @amcustomfab  8 місяців тому

    *Automation*...
    Cheap harbor freight electric winch or even an old craftmatic adjustable bed linear actuator, you wouldn't need a step ladder. Taking it down you need to bend and twist yourself out if the way, looks uncomfortable.

    Assuming this is a CO2 type laser, with mirrors and lenses that MUST be perfectly aligned, then this is a VERY bad idea. That kind of laser needs a solid place to sit and never be moved - otherwise it will never stay aligned. If its a diode type laser then maybe it won't be a problem? That I don't know...
