It took me a bit to get used to your pacing as far as your edits, in order to produce content that is of a reasonable length to consume. This album really does stand the test of time, sounds fantastic despite being recorded over 30 years ago. And glad to hear you're enjoying the channel! I've always loved listening to full albums as opposed to a single track, a lot of great songs can get overlooked just because they're not released as a single. I find that I can gain a much stronger appreciation for a band/singer when I hear the full album.
The singers all singing together is called gang vocals and is pretty common in thrash. The style was borrowed from hardcore punk because hardcore punk was a huge influence on the development of thrash
This came out when I was a junior in high school. KNAC, the local metal station in L.A. at the time, played Rust in Piece in its entirety upon release, along with Dave Mustaine giving commentary live on air between songs. It was one of the last landmark albums of the thrash era, before fans would direct their attention toward either the emerging grunge or death metal movements.
Dave's absolute masterpiece and the greatest ever Megadeth linuep IMO with Ellefson, Marty and Nick (RIP). Everything about the album is ridiclous while it still sounds fresh and never gets boring. It was really fun remembering how I reacted to the first listen.
This album blew my mind the first time that I heard it. As a young kid, beginning guitar player, it really influenced the way I heard the guitar, and the different possibilities that I could do with it. Fast forward all these years, it still blows my mind.
Met Dave many times..Seen Megadeth many times.. my good friend created their Mascot aka Vic Rattlehead. Even though they are from LA, we claim them as ours here in the Bay Area.
I don't listen to much Megadeth but they're practically unmatched in the genre when it comes to technicality. This album is a stone cold classic and cannot be argued. Some people will argue day and night over which band (Megadeth or Metallica) is better because Megadeth's creative force/singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine was Metallica's lead guitarist once many many beers- I mean, years ago lol. It's all whatever to me, they're two great bands with their own fair share of missteps. Megadeth sure had a better 90s output, though.
Yeah their technical prowess on those instrumentals is very apparent on Rust In Peace. I wasn't aware of the crossover with Dave being involved with Metallica, I'll have to see what I think of their music when I get to a Metallica reaction.
I love both bands, never bought into the war between them even back in high school when it was happening. But, Megadeth's output (in general) has been much more consistent, not just through the 90's. Metallica has been on cruise control for a long time. For Mustaine, I think the cancer put a drive in him that most musicians don't have at that age. And the current line-up is the best it's been since the 90's. But Megadeth and Metallica made the holy grail of metal albums and for that, there should never be a "who is better" conversation. They both made their mark and cemented a legacy.
@@Dmy602 damn I was the opposite I knew this album was going to be special so I listened to everything else first. So far, peace sells, killing and countdown before this one

Which I had and still have in different copies CD, Cassette, LP, and Japanese version, unfortunately I did not have the chance to see them in 90 during the tour for the disc that I would have loved it but I was able to see them in 1992, and several times thereafter. this album is a pure masterpiece and one of my favorite albums of all time thank you very much kiss from Quebec City Eric xxx
Marty Friedman uses a lot of Japanese classical music scales in his solos, you can find them on his solo albums (Dragon Kiss, Scene or Introduction) and on the album Cacophony (with Jason Becker: the greatest shredders duo ever).
Lucretia and Dawn Patrol are so underrated in my opinion. Two of my favorites all time and that’s saying a lot, Megadeth has some bangers. Even their new album is great!

This is my favourite album of all times. All songs can stand on themselves in my opinion. All are great. By the way, about the guitarists, the lead guitarist at that era was Marty Friedman and the rhythm (and sometimes lead) guitarist as well as the vocalist is Dave Mustaine. On the final track, it was Dave singing all the parts but since he can put different tones to his voice he can easily trick you into thinking there are multiple singers. Most people say Dave's voice is not good and if Megadeth had a different vocalist they would be even bigger than Metallica. However, I love his voice and it might be hard to get used to it but once you do you will love it. Great reaction, as always, and I would love you to check Countdown to Extinction or Peace Sells... but who's buying from Megadeth as well.
Whoa your attention span and appreciation! So cool. I've watched lots of reaction channels but not seen another listen to a full lp by an unfamiliar artist. I'll check out your others. I turned 18 the year of this lp and it really grabbed me🔥🎸
I appreciate that, glad you enjoy the format. I've always enjoyed listening to full albums as opposed to a single track, it's a much more immersive experience into a band's music in my opinion.
Thanks, glad you enjoy the format! Yeah Tornado Of Souls got me a little speechless with its awesomeness haha. Sometimes I get caught up in the music and forget to comment on what I'm hearing.
I first saw your channel when you reviewed a few of Korn's albums, and I'm excited that you're checking out one of my other favorite bands now. I'm going to join in on recommending Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? next. That was an earlier lineup of the band then and it sounded so unique. Nick Menza and Marty Friedman are the drummer and lead guitarist on Rust In Peace, and Marty is the guy playing a lot of the crazy solos on songs like Hangar 18 and Lucretia. On Peace Sells they had Gar Samuelson, a jazz drummer, and Chris Poland, a jazz/fusion guitar player, plus the core of Mustaine and Ellefson. It's intense, technical thrash but it has a different character than what you just listened to. Rust In Peace was produced with Mike Clink who was an A-list hard rock/metal producer (he did most of Guns N' Roses' hit albums) so the sound is very clear and pristine as you observed. Peace Sells was their major label debut though and is rougher sounding, but is still well produced. One last note, if you review any other Megadeth albums, make sure you listen to the ones that are NOT the 2004 remasters if you can find them. Mustaine went back and remastered their back catalog in the mid 2000s and most of them sound awful and it just ruined the original sound of the albums. The version of RIP you listened to is the un-remastered one it sounds like, so that's the better version.
Your presence is amazing, in this day and age when you hardly listen to albums like you did, anymore. I will now listen to Rust in Peace, in full. Thx!
Thanks! Glad you enjoy the style of videos. I've always enjoyed listening to full albums in one go as opposed to individual tracks/singles. I find I can really immerse myself in a band's sound more with the full album. Hope you enjoyed your listen to Rust In Peace :)
Nice reaction! As someone who just started getting into metal, in recent years. This album is pretty solid, & very progressive for trash metal. Really interested in seeing you react to metallica eventually.
I've mostly moved onto prog and extreme metal since when I got into Thrash, but this may just still be my favorite album of all time. BY FAR my fav thrash album of all time. Five magics is the GOAT imo. Also, look up the isolated tracks for the song rust in peace, holy fuck dave and nick were great, I think nick's drumming is literally the best thrash drumming I've ever heard - not overplaying or underplaying, just doing the exact thing the song calls for.
2019 into 2020, my whole thing was that Rust in Peace was the greatest album ever made. I'm not quite there any more but it's totally genius for sure, be hard to deny it's place in metal's top five. Helped me take my guitar playing to another level too.
I also listened to this album for the first time recently, as I’m going through Megadeth’s discography as I do with many other bands. All of the songs are fantastic, and GOD DAMN if the guitar solo for Tornado of Souls isn’t the best thing I’ve ever heard.
Great review. Megadeth's Rust in Peace 1990 is one of the most important Metal albums of all times. It's also one of the best Guitar albums of all times...
Yeah it's so impressive to me that they've been releasing music for as long as they have, I'd be really curious to hear some of their recent music and see how it compares to Rust In Peace.
@@mollyesanborn dystopia is time/ style appropriate for 2016. The Sick, the Dying, and the Dead has a big time return to the roots feel to it- although it's def 2023 at the same time
@@mikestelzer2027 TSTDATD is amazing! I thought Dystopia was a little underdeveloped overall, but the new album is absolutely classic Megadeth, best since Endgame And Dave's vocals are the best they've been in over a decade too, what a great time to be a Megadeth fan!
The great Dave Mustaine - he is the mastermind behind Megadeth. Originally the guitarist and frontman for Metallica when they were getting started (and writing a majority of their first album, Kill 'em All) but was thrown out for being too drunk and rowdy essentially. He set out to form a faster, heavier band than Metallica, and formed Megadeth. He writes the majority of the songs, does vocals, and shares lead guitar duties. Along the way there's been some great musicians around him to bring it all together.
Very interesting, I wasn't aware of the Metallica/Megadeth crossover with Dave being involved with both. I'll have to get to a Metallica reaction soon and see what I think of their music.
Dave is the man, I know he's a bit of an ass but he's been through a lot of shit through his life and the output is undeniable and does more good than any harm he could ever cause
More Megadeth, if you please! Like James Hetfield, Mustaine was a riff-meister and a reluctant lead vocalist. Dave plays more solos than Het, but they’re both the rhythm guitarists of their bands. Rust In Peace was a landmark album, in the realm of Thrash. Mustaine has had several drummers and lead guitarists, this album was the first of five albums with the same lineup, with Marty Friedman shredding on lead guitar and the dynamo on drums, the late Nick Menza!💜🤘 Definitely check out the three albums before and the three albums after!👍😎🔥

However, I love his voice and it might be hard to get used to it but once you do you will love it.
Great reaction, as always, and I would love you to check Countdown to Extinction or Peace Sells... but who's buying from Megadeth as well.
Best thrash metal album of all time I personally think it's the best metal album.
It’s awesome seeing you liking Megadeth lol
So glad I've finally heard some of their music!
The Dave mustaine sneer vocals are unique and appropriate for their songs. He was an angry dude
This was my favorite album years ago, I wish I could listen to it for the First time again
Yes! Please do more Megadeth!! Countdown to Extinction & Youthanasia 🙏🙏🙏
Very good reaction, hopefully we will see more megadeth reactions, greetings
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video!
"I like the fast parts of this thrash album." This is riveting stuff folks
I love all of positive comments you brought here, no contradiction unlike other reviewers. All love!
Aw thanks, I appreciate that! Rust In Peace is such a fantastic album, there wasn't really anything to dislike about it tbh.
Lol your smile makes me happy. I wish I could listen to this album for the first time again
I loved how much the changeups kept throwing you off lol. Masterpiece of an album. Unlimited replay value.
I just love how relentless this album is from the word "Go."
Absolutely love how you do your review 🔥
Thanks! :D
Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying (album) gotta be the next one ☝️ 😌
A lot of people keep mentioning this one, I'll have to give it a listen as well.
That deep vocal on 5 magics is an effect called a Harmonizer.
Oh man, i've been waiting for this since you posted it on your community wall..
Nice! Hope ya enjoy the reaction :)
I loved the video, it remembered me the first time i put my hands on this album, great memories
That makes me happy to hear, glad the video took you back to your first time hearing Rust In Peace :)
What a great video, I definitely like the way you break down and explain each song but u did seem a little speechless on the song tornado of souls.
This album has been voted by many as greatest thrash album created.
I can see why, it's pretty great!
Marty Friedman was the lead guitarist on this album but Dave also plays solos.
This is such a great album to practice guitar with! The instrumentals on Rust In Peace are just fantastic.
IT IS THE G.O.A.T.!!!
Great reaction. I love most megadeth albums but if you were to do only one, it has to be Peace Sells
I'll have to give that album a listen too!
Hellyeah Beautiful Sanborn! 🤘
It's crazy that the song hangar 18 already has 11 solos!
I never listened to megadeth until dystopia came out- since then I've become familiar with their whole body of work this album is great
Yeah it's so impressive to me that they've been releasing music for as long as they have, I'd be really curious to hear some of their recent music and see how it compares to Rust In Peace.
@@mollyesanborn dystopia is time/ style appropriate for 2016. The Sick, the Dying, and the Dead has a big time return to the roots feel to it- although it's def 2023 at the same time
@@mikestelzer2027 TSTDATD is amazing! I thought Dystopia was a little underdeveloped overall, but the new album is absolutely classic Megadeth, best since Endgame
And Dave's vocals are the best they've been in over a decade too, what a great time to be a Megadeth fan!
"Wildhoney" by Tiamat is a european 90's climatic metal classic.
I'll make sure that album is on my list, thanks!
That was the most outrageous description of his contribution to Metallica you could have possibly wrote.
The majority of kill em all was written by James NOT Dave
Esse é um dos álbuns definitivos do Metal, um clássico atemporal
Many fans and critics have this album in their top 10 metal albums of all time.
I can see why, it's pretty fantastic!
His mission statement for the band was ... to be the fastest, utmost furious heavy metal band ever.
I'd say the mission was a success haha!
Mustaine has had several drummers and lead guitarists, this album was the first of five albums with the same lineup, with Marty Friedman shredding on lead guitar and the dynamo on drums, the late Nick Menza!💜🤘
Definitely check out the three albums before and the three albums after!👍😎🔥
Hi Molly,
I'm having a blast watching this! I see that you have an appreciation for well mixed records nd sound quality, so I have to suggest investing in some "audiophile grade" headphones to really appreciate he full potential. I know you probably already realize that, and I know you're a new channel. but just wanted to stress how much that would add to the experience.
cheers!
One of the best metal albums of all time, no doubt 🤘
Peace sells next!
It's pretty fantastic! I'll have to give Peace Sells a listen now.
@@ViVaLaRan ...but who's buying?
Megadeth is my all time favorite Thrash Metal band and Dave Mustaine is a badass vocalist and rythum guitarist and Rust In Peace is a great album
Classic album, their latest one from 2022 was the album of the year for me.
So impressive to me that they're still releasing new music, I love that. I'd be really curious to hear their newest album and see what I think of it compared to Rust In Peace.
So many good albums last year, Rammstein with Zeit, Blind Guardian with The God Machine and Megadeth with the absolute banger that is The Sick... The Dying & The Damned!
One of the best album in the 90s! Tornado of Souls' guitar solo is my all time favorite. Btw, their Dystopia album is really great! You should try that one. You're gonna like it for sure.
Yeah Tornado Of Souls is fantastic! I'm looking forward to hearing more from Megadeth, I'll have to give Dystopia a listen now too.
Possibly my favorite metal album by one of my favorite and possibly the first band I’ve ever heard of when I was growing up. I first heard about them because of this cartoon Duck Dodgers in the episode “In Space No One Can Hear You Rock”
