their albums Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction usually get most of the attention, so it's really refreshing to hear Peace Sells again, I'd forgotten how good it is
I'll definitely have to give Countdown to Extinction a listen too!
so far, so good.....so what? is so good. Set the world Afire is my all time favorite embodiment of thrash.
@@mollyesanbornCountdown to Megadeth is the Black album to Metallica
Molly, you're totally killing it with your album choices, keep it up 👌
Aw thanks! You all keep giving me so many great suggestions, keep em coming! :)
The clear solos are Chris Poland. He has a rare combination of extreme speed and clarity. He and the drummer Gar Samuelson played in a jazz fusion band before joining Megadeth. Both are/were monsters. R.I.P. Gar.
This is my all-time favorite Thrash Metal album.
The Drummer Gar Samuelson(RIP) & Guitarist Chris Poland came from a Jazz Fusion background, which gave Dave’s songs & Megadeth a completely unique feeling to other Thrash metal bands.
ie. If you listen to the drum track isolated, you can still here the entire song in what the drums are doing, there’s also a subtle “swing” to his playing which gave the music so much feel in comparison to the overly Quantized feel from other metal bands.
I absolutely hate this album. Youthanasia and Countdown to extinction are masterpieces.
Dave Mustaine and Chris Poland, my favorite mega guitar duo, I really like what Marty Friedman did since Rust in Peace, but I think Chris Poland's vibe is wonderfully unique.
Next one must be "Countdown to extinction", their 5th album from 1992, same line-up from "Rust in Peace".
I'll definitely be giving Countdown To Extinction a listen too! Can't wait to hear it.
Chris Poland is amazing. Love his post Megadeth instrumental albums.
@@Jaggedknife11 Yes!, I heard that one "Metalopolis" once and I was every time saying: "hey, he did that thing in Megadeth before"
Chris Poland enjoyers 😎
Don't forget about Damn The Machine and Ohm
I Ain't Superstitious was a cover of bluesman Howling Wolf from the early 60's. Loved this album when it came out as a16 yr. old. The advent of thrash mixed with testosterone where a great combo as a teen
Ahh, I wasn't aware it was a cover. Thanks for letting me know! And yeah this album has so much energy to it, they really went all out on the intensity.
Well technically it's a cover of The Jeff Beck group's cover of the Dixon original
best megadeth album start to finish, imo
Please please do a “ PANTERA” discography reaction 🙏🏻
they have a legendary story and a tragic one..And a MONSTER of a Guitarist.
RIP Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The Abbot brothers.
🎸🤘🏻🤘🏻🥁
I'll definitely try and get to some Pantera real soon!
@@mollyesanborn awesome, I can’t wait for those bad boys.
I just watched there old VH1 behind the music episode on here and MAN.
Take care and God bless
Hell Yeah, couldn’t agree more. I miss that band so much 🥺
Can't wait for some Pantera
The problem with Pantera is deciding which album to start with. Their first few albums in the 80's until Phil Anselmo became the singer is a total different sound & not as good as their 90's stuff. Also their first album with Phil Anselmo called Power Metal isn't the sound that made Pantera famous in the 90's. The album that put Pantera on the map and the sound that they stick with is Cowboys from Hell(1990) Anselmo's 2nd album with the band . Cowboys from Hell is probably where you should start to get into the band and then listen to Power Metal to see how different their sound changed. Their 80's stuff you should only listen to if you become a hardcore Pantera fan probably off reaction.
Great choice this album is amazing My second favorite album
Yeah this one was a really fun listen!
A thrash metal masterpiece.
Can you put a price on peace?
Another Excellent Megadeth Album! This was an improvement from Killing is my business (and business is good). Check out So Far So good So what and Countdown to extinction too. Both good Megadeth staples.
I love how you said theres a spooky/dark/haunted feel to some songs on this album because thats exactly what i feel when listening to this album and thats what makes me love it so much!
Great video! I would also personally recommend listening to Faith No More's The Real Thing at some point!
Definitely, I'll try and get to some more Faith No More soon! I need some more Mike Patton insanity in my life haha :)
Let’s gooooo! Been waiting on this!
This album holds up so well after almost 40 years. Still to this day I listen to it all the time. I’m really starting to think that this could be the best heavy metal album ever. It just never gets old to me. My Last Words is my favorite Megadeth song with my favorite Dave solo.
I like the sound of this album. Never heard of Megadeth but it sounds good. I enjoyed your reaction
Thanks for watching! Yeah Megadeth are great, they sure do bring a ton of energy to their music which I love.
This album is an absolute classic!!! Fun little fact: the opening bass line to the title track was actually used on MTV News back in the day.
I didn't plan on watching the whole video, just the Peace Sells chapter, then I hear the intro of the next song Devils Island and I'm telling myself "damn I gotta listen to this whole album now." I don't think I've listened to the whole thing before and definitely not all the way through, either. So thanks for that haha.
🤠
on the top 10 of any metalheads list
Easily a top ten thrash classic 🤘😝🤘
Im new to.your channel and just love what your doing, feel nice to find someone else that anaylse music the way i do
Thank you! I'm glad that you're enjoying the channel :)
I swear you have to consider every Megadeth albums as a(n at least partial) reaction to the Metallica album before it. Dave going "I can do that faster, more technical etc." and both bands worked out great for metal as a whole.
+ "So far, so good, so what" makes sense as the next Megadeth - they were on an epic run from Peace Sells to R.I.P.
Hell yeah!!!! Molly uploaded!!!! 😍😁
Haha, glad you made a reaction about this album. This one has really genius riffs...one of my favorites. I liked the video right away! My last words is amazing.
Countdown to Extinction next!!!
Countdown to Extinction should be your next stop for sure! Great reaction! I forgot how good this album is! 😂
Great album (the best) and great reaction
Great 👍 I would recommend Flaw - Through the Eyes
Amazing album. That difference you said about the guitars, sometimes "in your face" and sometimes "clear and define" is the difference between Dave Mustaine and Chris Poland, the 2nd one was really into the jazz, that's why he sounds very unique for the genre.
Agree in Bad Omen election. It has a really great groove on first and then the classic speediness, always with awesome riffs.
Your next Megadeth record would be "Youthanasia" from 1994, really different from the Megadeth what you've heard. Actually is not a thrash album. It's kind of 90's metal, definetely softer, but still really good.
Oh, that's really cool about the guitars! I love how their different playing styles kinda bounce off of each other, they balance each other out in a way. It creates a really cool effect with the sound on this album. And I'll certainly have to give Youthanasia a listen as well, I can't imagine Megadeth not sounding like thrash metal so you've got me very intrigued to hear it.
@@mollyesanborn Also Mustaine was pure anger on that era. On Rust in Peace he was a bit more sober so he could improve his sound, that's why on RIP there's less difference between him and Marty who was/is as unique as Poland.
On reference to Youthanasia, Megadeth changed its style on Countdown to Extintion (less thrash) but for me 94 record is better as a whole.
That is one of their worst albums.
Can you do some more Mr. Bungle?
I'll definitely plan on it! :)
Nice!!!
Your hair is so shiny it's gorgeous. Found your channel searching for Alice in Chains which i love. Great reacts 👍
There were 2 lineup changes from Peace Sells to Rust in piece and thats a big part of the sonic difference. Marty Friedman on kead guitar who has a very specific and recognizable sound. He uses a lot of a-typical scales like melodic minor, phyrgian dominante along with more commonly used harmonic minor but they all have a large interval in them which gives a very recognizable sound. While this albums lead guitarist Chris Poland was more of a fusion player. The 2nd cha ge was drummer Nick Menza who was a real metal drum master that was really stong with the double bass peddle. He replaced Gar Samualson who had a strong jazz backround.
One of my all time favorite albums. Probably because guitarist Chris Poland and drummer Gar Samuelson were both born in my hometown.
My last words is probably my favorite song from this album but there is so much quality here its hard to select just one
Great reaction! Some other Megadeth albums I suggest are "countdown to extinction, "Dystopia," and an album of soundtrack songs and a few covers called "hidden treasures." Great stuff.
You can really hear the Jazz influance that Gar and Chris brought to this MEGA album. This is a must have album for anyone that loves metal.
Great reaction, I could see you enjoyed listening to it.
Might as well got to album #3 So far So Good So What. Its such an underrated album but its one of my favorite's and get political... most of what we are seeing today. Hook in the Mouth!
My favourite ever album by any band. Great video. I listened to this album about 5 times a day for two years solid when I was first introduced to it in 86!! By the way, I listen to the remaster, not the remix remaster. They sound different.
I Ain't Superstitious is a cover, which is probably why it sounds like the odd one out. Definitely a lot different than the other songs. But yes, classic album. For me, Rust in Peace is still their best. But since you heard that one, I would go with So Far, So Good, So What next.
Master of Puppets and this album came out in the same year, that's crazy.
You have to listen to the original version it sounds better then the remastered version
The best Metal band of all time.
Have you listened to "So far, so good, so what..." yet?
You might love the raw, low quality production sound iof the album.
Nope, not yet! I've only heard Rust In Peace and now Peace Sells in Megadeth's discography. I'll have to check that album out now.
@@mollyesanborn The two you've heard are the best IMO. You'll also definitely appreciate Rust in Peace more after hearing this.
This album have little times blues in 80s vibe, each song was a new lesson for thrash genre at these times because the way of instrumental intros and change of structures, even in shorter songs. Peace sells song hits hard, is an hymn/resume about all what thrash genre is about.
Devil's island hits different, like a standard 80s hard rock hard party single. Can't wait for countdown to extinction.
Molly, can you turn on subtitles? I'm from Brazil and I don't understand English :(
So many classics and a standard for all thrash metal fans!
Is there a place to see your full reactions?
This is probably my favorite from them. But I’m partial to old school material hearing them since their beginning.
The layers of guitars are the guitarists "dueling" for many of the solo sections, trading off with each other, back and forth. It really builds tension and is awesome when you have two killer guitarists. I Ain't Superstitious is an old Blues song written by Willie Dixon and had been covered by a lot of people. My Last Words is probably my favorite Megadeth song. Guitarist Chris Poland and drummer Gar Samuelson where actually Jazz musicians and not really familiar with the Thrash genre. Dave got them onboard though and it really fit. Sadly, they were all a bunch of drug addicts and the band imploded. I saw them on this tour at the Trocadero in Philadelphia. Dave Mustaine and Gar where mad at each other and where giving each other shit all through the set. At the end, Dave threw his guitar into Gar's drum set after whacking them with it for a couple blows. Gar grabbed the guitar and tossed it back out. It did this nice swan dive, headstock first, onto the the stage where it broke and tuning pegs flew off. A week or two later the band split up. Do Killing is My Business.
Hello Molly, I enjoy your video, Megadeth, you can try their first album "Killing is My Business" which is 1Metal with the essence of Punk, with the same song structure as of RIP and Peace Sells, or "Youthanasia" which is Metal with the essence of Grunge, slower speed in songs with a more commercial approach, lots of harmonies, with simple song structure. I remember when I bought Youthanasia I instantly really like it, cause I was really into grunge at the time, and although the rock was heavier, it was up my alley. Now "Killing is My Business...and Business Is Good" when i bought it (original version)and listened to it, I was like, Meh, it's too raw, nothing catches you right away, but, it's one of those albums that grows on you, and when it does, you will forever like it.
hi molly!
This album really captures what Megadeth was like in their raw early days. Gives it such a unique feel is the contributions of co-guitarist Chris Poland and drummer Gary “Gar” Samuelson. The two came from jazz backgrounds, which brought the strong swing feel on the first two albums. The two had played together in earlier projects, and were essentially a package deal. Dave Mustaine would sometimes describe their sound as a “jazz-oriented punk band with some classical influences”. He’d say that to mess with people, but there was a degree of truth to it. Poland’s playing is renowned for his dexterity and jazz nuances (his lead parts have that “clear” tone you described).
The partnership would not last, as Dave Mustain would fire them when their heroin addictions got out of hand. Gar’s playing ability was declining, and Chris had begun stealing and pawning band gear to “get well”. Both would bounce around other bands and genres thereafter. Gar Samuelson died in 1999, reportedly of liver failure. Chris Poland has been periodically involved with Megadeth since, but has mostly stuck to the jazz fusion genre ever since.
great review please do one from Therion
Time to check out Killing is My Business... and Business is Good! and So Far, So Good... So What!
I recommend Slayer- South Of Heaven
And for a change of pace I recommend
Black - Tricot
My favourite Megadeth album. Did you notice that the first track has no repeating sections, every time there's a change in the song it's a totally new riff, so there are no repeating verses or choruses. And still it's catchy as hell.
Early Megadeth really is special. I'd recommend doing their first or third album next.
Another band I'd love to see reacted to is called Code Orange. Their second or third album would be amazing to get a reaction to. It's some pretty cutting edge metal with a lot of variety.
Early mega is gross. Once rust in peace happens those 5 albums in the 90's are really good if not masterpieces. Everything before Rust and After Risk/Cryptic Writings is really bad.
You should try TAD - Infrared Riding Hood
TAD were among the originals of the Grunge scene, starting in 1988. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana was hugely supportive of them and even finished TAD's set in Milan after he mis-timed his high and passed out on stage.
I would say that TAD was the most innovative band of the Seattle Scene. And they had the best bass player - Kurt Danielson.
Also, Sub-Pop is very cool with copyrights.
nice. when you get to it, Risk, that'll be a fun listen for you.
In 1986/87, the big four all released landmark albums that represented the pinnacle of their original sound and style.
Peace Sells
Rain in Blood
Master of Puppets
Among the Living
These are my trapped on an island albums and every one is perfect from beginning to end. All four bands would go on to produce more refined albums for their next efforts, with more complexity and polish, but these albums perfectly distill their unique styles that made them stand out.
I have a hard time picking a favorite, but this seems to be the one that gets overlooked because Megadeth has been so consistent with great albums. Glad to see this getting some love.
Peace Sells was a good choice.
Waiting on your reaction to some Iron Maiden album (I think it's the best to start with their self-titled debut).
Awesome reaction 👍👍👍 I think now that you've heard their two main old masterpieces you should listen to their modern masterpiece which is Dystopia from 2016 😁 then you can go back to the first and third albums
Cryptic writings or countdown to extinct next pls!!!!
my fave album
The first two records had interesting covers . I aint superstitious on this album and these boots are made for walking on the first but you cant do the remasters if you wanna hear its gotta be the 85 version
10:12 I think you're describing the different sound of mustaines solos vs Chris polands solos . Poland has the last solo and the melodic intro on black friday while dave had the first 2 solos . i think dave has the best solos here though like the wake up dead , conjuring and my last words solos
Thanks for the megadeth reactions we appreciate it !
Also, Dave's guitar tone is different than Chris' guitar tone. Once you have listed to the first two albums a few times, you can pick out who is soloing where by their tone. Dave's tone sounds basically like he uses the Bridge pick up on everything. It has an 'in your face' quality. Chris' tone sounds more like he uses the Neck pick up. Its thicker and warmer. If you don't play guitar, it's crazy to think you can get such different sounds by simply placing one pickup a few inches further away from the bridge. Now, I could be wrong because I have never actually read anything on their guitar setups during the recording of the first two albums, but I have heard similar tones on my own guitars.
You should do their newest album next time!
This album is gritty compared to Rust in Peace. They got sober before recording Rust in Peace. Both of these albums are considered classic thrash masterpieces.
They have a ton of other albums that varied in style, especially their stuff that is newer than late 80s/early 90s. I recommend the album United Abominations from 2007.
Peace.
PS: My Last Words is a badass song.
so far so good so what great album
will you listen to all the Halo soundtracks in order of release?
Listen to the album "Blood Gulch" by the band "Centipedes of the Osiris Turnstiles"
Ms. Sanborn will you please get a mic stand so I don't have to worry about your arm hurting the whole time?
Gnarly ass old album 🤘
Great reaction, You should have a look at Creed discography or listen to Three Days Grace.
this album is fire
Hi Molly
What a great all-time classic album. Definitely a more raw production that Rust In Peace but it was 1986. Great rhythm section on this album. Too bad Dave never learned to get along with other people so Megadeth was a revolving door of band members.
:3 nice album choise
Para mí es el mejor
Can you do depeche mode or pet shop boys ,offspring ?
I will keep them in mind, thanks for the suggestions!
Check out Countdown to Extinction...album by Megadeth
In the first two albums, Dave used more of a snarl in his vocals. By the third album, his singing started to change with less snarl and more singing. His vocal deliver is different in 'Rust in Peace' than "Killing is my Business' and "Peace Sells...'. Those odd vocals are from him layering his vocals. A lot of reverb added at times as well. For many Megadeth fans, the first two albums you have listened to, 'RiP' and "Peace Sells...' top there favorites list. Personally I love the first album, 'Killing Is My Business' slight more that 'Rust...' 'RiP' is definitely more polished, but the raw energy of "Killing...' kills it. But you should listen to 'Countdown to Extinction' next. 'Countdown...' was the next evolutionary step in Megadeth as a band. You have listed to 'Rust in Peace', Megadeth's technically best played Thrash album. And you have listened to 'Peace Sells,' their darkest album. 'Countdown...' will lead you into the more radio friend era.
Wow, I thought it was just gonna be the song and here I was wishing you'd do some others (I think the title track is the weakest in the album, minus the cover song). What a treat to relisten to the entire Peace Sells album with someone's fresh perspective. As you can see by my picture, this is my favorite Megadeth album and Good Mourning/Black Friday my fav song.
Edit: Woah your fav was Bad Omen? I've always found it super underrated, barely anyone talks about it. It's probably my 2nd fav
I would listen to Megadeths first album, Killing is my business...
I personally love it, so fast and i love his vocals on that album
I would really love for you to react to My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade! my personal favourite of MCR is Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge and i would also love for you to react to that but TBP is regarded as their best.
Countdown to Extinction wouldn't be a bad choice for another Megadeth album to react to (their best selling album), would also be interesting the contrast it with Metallica's self titled album which was released shortly before.
Please listen to debut album from Metal Church
So Far So Good is great one
Show of hands in the comments- any other Gen-X dinosaurs in here like myself that remember the opening bass part from the title track on MTV News with Kurt Loder back once upon a time when that channel still actually played music videos? Sound off! Cheers.
Speaking of classic metal albums, I think it's high time that you listened and reacted to some Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne albums! (Black Sabbath's self-titled debut, Paranoid, Masters of Reality, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, as well as Ozzy's Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman, Bark at the Moon, No More Tears, and Ozzmosis, are all must listens!)
nice shirt
pls consider reacting to Avenged Sevenfold's newest album called Life Is But A Dream, it's really different from other avenged sevenfold songs/albums you have reacted to, it's really unique and it would be really interesting on how u will review them
Megayes!!
2:50 The Conjuring really gets going...
(aka Cocaine is a helluva drug!!!)
10:10 yeah dave had the first 2 solos on this song and chris has this one . No altering any audio just 2 lead gutarists havinh dif styles and sounds . The other guitarist in megadeth no matter who and when will always be cleaner . Dave plans it that way . i think daves solos are cooler though . the conjuring and my last words solos are my fav on record and those are both dave
Is there Limp Bizkit albums on your list?
Yep I've got Limp Bizkit on my list :)
@@mollyesanborn 🔥🔥🔥
Youthanasia by Meagdeth is probably my favorite Album of their's, it's probably 1 of their least trashy albums and the most mainstream sounding but it's so good. It's very 90's which is probably why I love it so much.
Studio albums are awesome and all, but have you been to a heavy metal or hard rock concert yet?
Yes I have! I love live concerts, the energy is always insane.
In 2004, Dave Mustaine had all the Megadeth albums remastered. In my opinion, the snare drum on some of the remasters had too much treble. Peace Sells, though, came out immaculate in my opinion. It wasn't just the snare, though. All the instruments sound great. It's a huge improvement over the original. Its probably one of the most "pleasant" sounding metal albums to listen to, for lack of a better word.
Gotta disagree with ya. Nothing beats the originals. Especially rust in peace. The drums and vocals were so much worse on the remaster. Thankfully Apple Music has all the versions of the albums so we can enjoy! Either way it’s megadeth so can’t go wrong 😎
@@KrispybuttzWell, the studio lost some of Dave's vocal tracks & some musician recorded over Dave's guitar on certain tracks. Meaning, Dave had to re-record parts of the album (EG - Vocals on Take No Prisoners); so, basically RiP is not so much a remaster as a re-recording. IE - Agree, the originals are MUCH better.
" Devil's Eyebrows! "
When do you do a reaction to Mexican music "corridos tumbados" especially to Natanael Cano "A mis 20" LP
Please react to a band called hed(pe), their 1st album which is self titled hed(pe) or their Broke album. They're metal, punk music infused with hip hop known as G-Punk(Gangsta Punk) & sometimes they had reggae to their music. Thx & keep the great reactions coming🤘
Thanks for the suggestion, I've got them on my list :)
@@mollyesanborn Sweet, can't wait for that. Thx Molly.
This is their best...
