These deep dives are some of the most golden videos on the internet man, thank you so much for this Cory. Getting the chance to hear these lovely parts in isolation is quite beautiful.
The whole orchestration based on the guitar is right in line with the way Wes Montgomery did it. Up until his time, whenever jazz musicians recorded with strings, they would have an orchestration set and improvise along with it. The story goes that Wes would get nervous and not feel great when playing with the orchestra. So, to address that, they ended up just recording him improvising with his band, then write the orchestrations to fit his improvisations. It revolutionized the way strings were used throughout the whole of jazz.
There’s something special in this one. Hard to boil down but I think what you’re representing toward the end is the love that carries on through loss. Beautiful ❤️.
Thanks for such a deep analisis of the track. The orchestral arrangement is brutal. The horns, incredible. Cory is very lucky, he works with a wonderful band. So we're lucky enjoying it.☮️
The solo of the piano had a distinct flavor of Loving You by Minnie Ripperton and the Rotary Connection. I look forward to every On The One. So cool seeing how the big guys do it. Thank You so much
Thank you so much for featuring this song for on the one! I first heard of you when you were performing in hawaii @ Bluenote. I had no idea who you were but a client of mine suggested for me to go watch you because he knew I enjoyed playing guitar. Was completely blown away to say the least. You then explained how acceptance was inspired from Arival which was a movie I was very fond of. You brought tears to my eyes because I could feel the emotions of love, grief, and pain so beautifully in this piece. Once again thank you for this masterpiece and can't wait to see you again if you come back to hawaii!
I absolutely love the way you've been breaking down all the tracks from this record. Keep it up. It would be fun if other artists did this. I'm no audio engineer but I appreciate good mixing and production as much as good music so it's really fun to see how it's done.
I'm late but finally, a production breakdown at this absolutely magical composition and my favorite pick off your latest record😍🥰 Had me floored at the amount of layering in this one, particularly the way you had Mr. Nelson to write lush arrangements around your improvisation is simply brilliant. Oh man, it almost got me teared up whenever I was hearing the orchestral breakdown on the climactic part of the guitar improv section🥲😭
this is incredible. I love watching you song breakdowns, make me laugh out loud and be in awe all at the same time. f'n insane! sorry for that outburst, but i get really excited when I hear dope music!!!
Thank you for these awesome Videos! It's so cool to see your process in this way, always makes get up and keep working on my own stuff ❤🙏 Inspiration for days
Cory, can we get a stripped down version of this song which is features the strings? I love this song but I'd love to hear it with strings pushed front, its so beautiful.
Awesome video dude. This album has been so fun to listen to and feel. I do wanna ask how you do remote recording? What has been the best method for putting these songs together from different places?
As I watch you comment and explain, I see that you are completely immersed in it and living your music. You also know how to give all the credit to your fellow musicians for the blossoming of this beautiful common work. You managed to express in this tune all the emotions that you evoke with the desired intensity. Superb arrangement 🎼🎶🎵🎸🥁🪘🎸🎹🎷🎺🎻!!! Thank you for your enthusiastic sharing, Mr. Cory Wong 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻!!! Happy New Year 2024 ☮💙!!!
Who cares about autotuning stuff. The goal is to create a beautiful piece of music, not to prove anything about authenticity or anything. It it's good for the record, do it, simple as that

Yes! The transparency is awesome 🎉
The only thing better than this would be to have the session, but this is as close as we’ll have it!! Man!! I’m with you, gotta love these videos…
Would never have guessed that Arrival was part of the inspiration for this song. It's SUCH a good movie

fascinating, thanks for sharing that info. What's your favorite example(s) of this?
Michael Nelson is a wizard!
Jay mother lovin Webb.
19:17 I always thought that part sounded like a 二胡 (erhu). It definitely touches me every time I play this track.
I love the sound of the erhu! And this certainly comes close.
My favorite song on the new album for sure!
We used this song at our wedding to set the mood right before everything started.
Immediately after the wedding party walked down to Ready.
My dream wedding lol very nice and congratulations! 🎉
The emotion in this track is unique and so moving. It really feels like a human voice that is a guitar track.

Was not expecting a lesson in orchestration but this was excellent 🤌🏼
Orchestration is just fire! Amazing song!🧡
This feels so much like a Blue Devils ballad. Favorite artist 🤝 Favorite Brass section
Sooooo glad you did a breakdown for this tune. Can’t wait to see what happens with it live.
Wow I love "on the one". This tune is a real emotional ride. Pulls tears from the either. Aloha
Fantastic insight, Cory! I love this video. You mention Mayer as influence on the staccato gtr part, but I hear Knopfler.

I flipping love these videos - I could watch them all day!
Great breakdown Cory - thanks for putting these out there. I loved the guitar solo orchestration!
It's got that guitar anthem Steve Vai - Whispering a prayer vibe. Incredible.
Cory! Soooo good!! What an inspiration!
The fact that I’m obsessed with Cory Wong and we’re both obsessed with Arrival somehow brings me closure
Thanks for continuing this series
I have this on repeat! Love it!
This was unbelievable live in Manchester thank you!! This insight is so good too.

Cory, can I say it? This track sounds like you were channeling Mr. Nelson in the best way possible… love it love it
Cory in shorts just changes everyrhing.

The best episode on the series. Man! i`m so in love with your music
Thanks so much for sharing this kind of stuff, you are very generous.
Love this song the whole album has inspired me to play again
Happy New Year, Cory! May this be a happy and fruitful year🎉🥂🎉
As an orchestral musician, please do a tour playing with different orchestras around the with your band!
what you're doing is freaking awesome dude... I can get many stuffs for my project... thanks dude
thanks, this is really great!
Love these breakdowns Corey! So valuable and helpful! Thank U
Lets gooo, my absolute fav from the record
Agree with the movie - some special vibe also for me - it’s about language also beyond love
I heard that you went to Fridley high school! Me too, but further back in time. Go Tigers 😀
Really the vibe by Beverly Anderson has that main hook in this and it's such an unknown song
I'm only up to the ad at the start, but I hope we get into how CRISP that trumpet towards the end is.
Edit: not disappointed
Thank you for these awesome Videos! It's so cool to see your process in this way, always makes get up and keep working on my own stuff ❤🙏 Inspiration for days
Please do Flamingo! Love that song.
Great Job Brother Master. Thank you.
To be entirely honest I found this a little boring at the concert but now at home in the right setting and mood I'm absolutely in love ❤
Shooting my shot. I would love to arrange a Drumline/marching percussion piece for one of your songs
theres the beginning of the wii sports lick in there but it never resolves the same and i love it
The piano parts and the guitar comp literally sounds like the wii sports intro theme
that's all i could hear too! a bit different at the end of the lick though
Always down for 'Arrival' praise!!!
Borges!, nice
Cory, can we get a stripped down version of this song which is features the strings? I love this song but I'd love to hear it with strings pushed front, its so beautiful.
It's not only John Mayer influenced - I also hear a lot of the Larry Carlton stuff from his Valley Arts era. 😉
13:10 this is literally the wii sports lick
Yes! I was waiting for someone to mention this. I like this song but can't hear it without thinking of wii sports
Awesome video dude. This album has been so fun to listen to and feel. I do wanna ask how you do remote recording? What has been the best method for putting these songs together from different places?
nice!
hahahahahaha FUN, props!
Anyone else getting Nintendo Wii/Switch sport vibes in the best way?
Anyone know the mic Cory's using in this vid? Sounds phenom!
Interested to know why you didn't want anything fake. is there a primal/natural/anti-tech reason? I'm of the same mind!

melody's giving wii sport's resort vibes
Y un día Cory encontró a su hermano Aron Mellergard ua-cam.com/video/m34byl2BT1o/v-deo.htmlsi=HIQdqjXCUI5cuL5R
Sounds like the wii sport resort theme. But so much more arranged
Rolex vibes.
