    Lol! You guys are cute. I’m glad you guys filmed a video on this topic. There’s a lot of skepticism around this vaccine, especially within the community given the history of discrimination, maltreatment, inequality, etc. in medicine.
    In all honesty, I’m not in a place where I feel comfortable enough to take it - I’ve never had the flu shot and medicine is always a last resort for me. That being said, I’m starting to understand why people in medicine and in high risk roles are taking it. From conversations I’ve had with other doctors on the frontline, it seems like the risk of exposure and the long-term negative effects of COVID outweigh the the risks associated with the vaccine. Still need to get a better understanding of this because I don’t think people are doing a good job of educating the masses on the vaccine, the pros and its cons in a way that makes sense to the masses. I will say it’s comforting to know that a bunch of my doctor friends and doctors that I follow on social media are getting it. I think that gives me a little peace about potentially taking the vaccine.
    Side note: and I’m happy to take this offline, I’m curious to get your thoughts on whether there’s a disparity in the treatment of COVID patients across race, ethnicity, and age. And when I say treatment, I mean at every stage. From the moment a person gets COVID until recovery or loss.
    I ask because I think that may play a huge role in deciding whether it makes sense to take a vaccine.
    Super long comment! Thank you so much for sharing.

      Thanks so much for the thoughtful commentary. I can't say that I'm surprised by all the skepticism. Even so, as a health care worker, sometimes it is difficult to take a step back and realize that so many who are not health workers don't have the same experiences and perspective as you do....and that distrust is at a whole different level than you even imagined. I can relate to you on that - even as a doctor myself, medicine has always been a last resort, one to be used only if necessary. In this case I think each individual has to weigh the potential benefits and perceived risks, taking into account their unique circumstance. I too see my fellow doctors all across the country being the first in line to take the vaccine, and that speaks volumes. In fact, my fellow house staff at my institution are out here protesting just to be included in the first wave of vaccinations. While health care workers, especially those at the front lines, can appreciate the importance of this, I do believe the general public is less well versed and that breeds skepticism. And yea, there are clear racial and socioeconomic disparities in the treatment/management of patients in general, certainly including COVID patients, and that certainly doesn't help with breeding trust. We should definitely discuss this more!!

    Thank you. Can you keep us posted on your post vaccine experience please. I am a health care worker and at this time i am opting out. Because of AA history AND I have had an allergic reaction to a vaccine before.

      We absolutely can! It’s such a personal and sometimes hard decision for health care worked to make - me included. I understand where you’re coming from.

    My dad celebrated his 76th birthday in hospital with COVID. And I do say celebrate because he had come through 5 weeks in CCU and was in rehabilitation at that point. But several times his nurses commented on how fortunate he was for having such good insurance. His hospital bill was over 300k not including rehab. His copay was less than 2k.

      @EfficientlyNatural  3 роки тому +1

      I’m so sorry you and your family had to go through that. I pray your dad has continued to recover and is doing well now. Yea, it’s no secret that our medical system as it is now is deeply flawed. I’m glad your dad’s insurance made a favorable contribution and he wasn’t left with exorbitant bills..definitely not always the case
