Thank you also. My wife and I lived in Geelong between 1987-88. We are from the US, still living in the US. Our older son was born there. How things have changed! I remember trying out my new auto-focus 35mm film camera at the harbor. I could barely recognize the harbor now. One of the best times in our life living is a small town (at that time) Thanks again
Thankyou for the feature on ny hometown. Geelong has always been seen as second to melbourne but it is a great place to live, it has most of the advantages of melbourne but the advantage of still having the community feel. We also have the best aussie rules team in the country😊😊😊
So lovely to see the big pool still there !!..i swam in that 60 years ago, when we lived in Barwen Heads for 10 years, cute as a button little town, just down the road...😊
Born here, grew up here, went to school and university here, spent 35 years and would never return, but I'm happy to see it thriving finally as it deserved.
@@JohnSmith-ho8up I live in Puerto Rico now. In general I'd never live in Australia again, to me it's an expensive over regulated nanny state .... but as for Geelong? well sometimes you were just never meant to be in a place you always resented and hated it from your earliest memories and despised small minded people.....I had some of the best times of my life in Geelong to but reality is I just never wanted to be there and was happy to never see it again.
The city has potential... The waterfront is really nice, quite stunning and unique for anywhere in Australia... The arts and civic area is also quite nice and the laneway of bars and cafes that runs from it has a very cool vibe. Other than a few heritage buildings scattered throughout, the rest of the city centre isn't particularly that attractive or interesting and seems to lack people/ liveliness or much character. Having a big bulky Westfield there doesn't help. If more well designed low to mid rise level apartments filled the city along with more greenery and improved side walks this could improve Geelong I think.
Think it through thoroughly, it's one thing visiting their it's another living there. I did 35 years there and you could not pay me to ever set foot in the place again
Lovin' the feature of my hometown. Showing of GMHBA stadium at the start and the semi-circle swimming prominade on the next slide. I will say that our town is excellent but we do lack the tourism elements really. Our CBD is a bit woefully underprepared for actual tourism i feel and we are still very much a residential city compared to melbourne.
As someone who was born and bred in Melbourne (and who now lives in Canberra) and has been a frequent visitor to Geelong through the years, I enjoyed your video and appreciate you bringing Geelong and all it has to offer to an international audience. Next you've got to tackle the Great Ocean Road ... and don't forget to eventually make your way to Canberra!
Great stuff. So sick of Australian tourism being dominated by "Oooh look, Opera House and harbour bridge", then "but look, we've got coffee and above average graffiti', and 'wow, a beach on a river', and so on. Refreshing to see somewhere else being given a go; and how it comes up really well. Never been to Geelong, but I will now.
Since my last visit 14 years ago the growth of the suburbs was really noticeable. I wonder if in another 14 years the urban sprawl will stretch all the way to Torquay.
@@TravelObscurer pretty sure there's greenwedge between geelong and torquay, but who knows if they'll keep their word. I also believe the areas north and west of the ring road will be urbanzing after the completion of armstrong creek.
One thing that confused me is that Melbourne was founded in 1885 and Geelong 1887 and yet melboune grew to 5 million and Geelong hasn't even got 500 thousand ???? They were founded almost at the same side???????
ALL travel shows need to focus on the natural beauty, housing and vibe of the place..no need to show sheep n wool, cafes and ESPECIALLY dont focus on BOOZE...plz, stop perpetuating the cultural the must have alcohol to be happy and enjoy life, lol...meditating in a beautiful park would be a better story..
Colonial Invasion? You wouldn't be producing this video if it wasn't for non-Aborigines. In fact, you shouldn't be talking about Geelong if you believe there was an invasion.
I turned this hate speech video off in utter disgust the second this vile commie uttered his antiwhite slur against our beloved ancestors who built Geelong and carved it out of the wilderness with their bare hands. The Geelong men who fought and died to defend Geelong in world wars this vile, evil Woke scumbag spits on their graves with his vile taunts
I love geelong
Geelong is also the only city in Australia whose CBD faces north towards the sea. Lovely on a sunny day
Im Canadian but I would love to go here some day!
Fantastic video! Looks like a wonderful and fun place to visit. I’m sold.
Lived in Geelong when I was a kid...good memories of that place 👍

You're welcome. My first visit was in 1991. It has changed immensely since then!
I have good friends in Geelong and I've visited several times now. Love the city, I would love to live there!
It's a great city. On a cold grey day in Scotland (today!) I long for a sunny walk along the seafront
@@TravelObscurer It's been so cold here in Norway lately

Totally agree Tracey. Thanks so much for the feedback.
Go Cats!
Go Cats!
Great video, Greater Geelong is host to dozens of fantastic wineries, breweries and distilleries
Fantastic town to live in. No traffic, good schools, minimal crime, and good food and coffee.
Wot mate, no traffic what geelong have you been living in
Are you from Arnhem Land ? Must be if you believe Geelong has traffic
Its also 20 mins from the bush. 20 mins from the beach and 30 odd mins to the big smoke of melb.
@Glitched Serpent peak hour is jammed but normal times its a straight run.
No traffic? You're dreaming 😂

Hi... Why not? And where do u live now?

Greatest
I have visited there a lot! And I loved it
Great video.
Greetings from Peru.
Gracias. Saludos desde Escocia.
Thank you for including my business …in your video on Geelong. G’Town has a lot to offer that’s for sure!
You're welcome!

I'm going to Australia and I would love to work here 😢 amazing place ❤
2:31 is my favourite part
Excellent video, thank you. We'll be moving there in the next couple of years and can't wait
Thank you. Enjoy your new home!
Think it through thoroughly, it's one thing visiting their it's another living there. I did 35 years there and you could not pay me to ever set foot in the place again
Been 14 years since I've been back and haven't lived there full time since I was 12.... Still tell everyone I'm from Geelong.

Geelong. If you don't like the weather, just wait 20 mins.

Thanks Adrian. A great ocean road film will be out in a couple of days. Alas, I still haven't made it to Canberra.
Looks nice! And it's a fairly quick train ride out of Melbourne these days, isn't it?
Yes, 45 minutes on the train

Thanks - exactly what I was aiming for.
It still has a " cute" feel..like in times gone by...
Geelong is great, just stay away from Corio, Norlane, Market Square, Whittington and St. Albans Park if you cherish your phone, wallet and shoes.
Nooo! It very very rare
It's like a suburb of Melbourne now.
The country feeling is going. 😩 House prices are up.
I still like living here.

A shame that you won't get any close encounters with Emus anymore, as Parks Victoria have depopulated the Serendip sanctuary
Any good Universities here apart from Deakin?
No
Oh well the Gordon
2:32 lol

Looks like Mandurah WA also way better than Perth
What's happened to Miss Melbourne bollard? She was absolutely fine in 2021
My favorite place in Geelong is Bell Park it’s like Little Europe 😂
i don't want geelong to be on the map, i want her to be protected from gentrification 😭 lovely city
GO CATS and xrp 2 t moon alice
