This was great, thank you. I'm not religious, but found so much of it relevant and transferable. 🌿
Discipline is everything mamas! Discipline and temperance.
We need to instill in our children that you don’t have to be entertained 24/7, and not everything has to appeal to your emotions.
Such a good topic for today ❤
My husband and I don’t have cell phones, but when we try to talk to people about getting one they say “Don’t” because they say we have a happier lifestyle. We are just thinking it would come in handy for traveling or in emergencies. Good video! I used to connect with people when I had questions about recipes, but now I find I’m more creative finding recipes online then tweaking them to my own taste. Many relatives talk about loosing touch with people because everyone’s too ‘busy’, but the reality is we make choices how to spend our limited time. Connect with what’s most important to you - family, friends, gardening, God, etc. 😊
Don't get smartphones. My husband and I are about to toss ours, next week we are having a landline put in. You want a phone for traveling emergencies, get a flip phone that you can add minutes to. That's our plan. Smartphones were the worst thing we could have ever gotten for ourselves and we can't wait to be rid of them.
Do you have a computer?
Hi Samantha,
Thats so awesome that y’all have had the discipline to live without cellphones! I’ve had PureTalk for a carrier for a little over year and have loved their company values and products. As for phones, I would consider the Palm phone, still has maps and google for traveling needs but very streamlined design and sturdy build for about $200 if you are looking for something simple yet functional should you need the web.
There are some great, inexpensive, minimalist cell phones out there! No apps, only text and phone. It's not all or nothing.
@@katieyungen1647my husband has a Mac Air computer but he only uses it to pay our bills. We tried to mail but they’d get there late and our credit is too good. Not that we have alot of bills because we don’t believe in charging only in an emergency. Like I said it’s to pay certain bills only.
My husband and I officially "broke up" with our smart phones this past summer. We have flip phones. I felt guilty so much about how much time I spent on it, and I tried really scrutinizing my screen time. I really didn't want my kids growing up with a mom who was constantly on the phone. I also felt guilty towards God. I have heard the whole "self- control" card and I do agree I am supposed to be temperate, but I believe I made a sacrifice for God and my family.
I think my husband and I are about to take this leap. I really struggle not being distracted by my phone.
How has it gone for you guys?
Can you share more about having a flip phone? Any big logistical challenges that's caused? My biggest issue would probably be not having google maps!
@@jasminehartley9692 Well as you can imagine it definitely has pros and cons. There are things you will have to go out of your way to do. But totally getting rid of it is the game changer. For a while I still had the smart phone and would still get on it on the Wi-Fi, but I finally got rid of it totally. It was like weaning myself off an addiction really. It takes about a month to get used to that drastic of a change. You basically just step back in time about 15 -20 years. It has helped me with the distraction, a lot of my guilt was not paying enough attention to my kids. We still have a small tv and a laptop, but it's not as easy to lose yourself in those things as it is a phone. It even started to bug me how much I kept up with my phone. Like an extra body part. I know that sounds weird but honestly it just started really bothering me. I just wanted to be free. I have no intentions of going back. @jasminehartley9692
Oh yes. Lol. It is a lot harder I won't even pretend that it isn't, but I actually have a GPS now like the good ole days. It's not a deal breaker for me though. Everything is set up around us for smart phones. It's inconvenient sometimes but I don't want to go back. I think one of the hardest things for me is not having my music in the car. I use CD's or my iPod etc. I know right? lol. Something I also really need is a nice camera. For all the time use. I backed up the thousands of pics and videos to drop box and the cloud so I wouldn't lose them. So yes, there are some things to have to figure out and it just boils down to- how important is this to you? Is it worth the sacrifice? People have made comments to me about having a flip phone and some people around you may not take it well. But it is more important to me to do this for my own reasons than to not do it because it's weird. We also got rid of our living room tv and just have a little one in the bedroom. My kids get a fraction of screen time that they used to, and I wouldn't change that. @@Zinbin15
Thank you for this video. I'm such an info junkie and don't follow-through on things that I'm learning. I need to change this. This talk was helpful. There is a better to the good thing to do always. I just need to remind myself of what is important. God first, family second, then everything else! 🌸❤️
I watch archeology and history programs and think none of it would have happened if they’d had cell phones and streaming video. No Taj Mahal, no great pyramid, just people wasting their days. I needed this Word! ❤. Thank you.
100% agree.....i think that all. The. Time! I think sometimes tech has just dumbed us down rather than made us smarter. Imagine how much time to *think* and *listen* to the Lord's voice if we had no tech. I used to resist tech so much in the beginning....i've let it dominate me more than i care to admit. WAY more
This was great! My devotional yesterday happened to be titled “Focused on Jesus”. No Facebook or Instagram but, I do have a smart phone. I’m an empty nester with seven grandchildren. I keep the two year old two to three times a week which involves me picking up and taking home. Three days a week I’m after school transportation for the three oldest which involves time in carlines. My daily Bible reading and prayer time is important. I like to have time for it and not be rushed and feel like I’m just getting it done. God bless you Lisa, Luke, and all the parents out there raising your children in a Christian home! 😀❤️
By far, my favorite!!!!! I needed this SO MUCH!
What great points Katie talked about with you. We all can look at our own lives and see areas that need some attention. Pulling those "weeds" up "root" and all are the key. I idea that we can choose to in that moment of weakness ask God for the strength. To be more obedient and try again at being faithful in what ever area that we are working on. This really stuck out to me. I was totally over thinking that one. Its those simple comments or ideas that blow our minds when we are opened to them thanks to the Holly Spirt. Thanks for your time!!!
This is such a great topic! I really enjoyed this episode!
Remember that serving our families with a joyful heart IS serving the Lord and living the Word of God. The New Law is: Love God above all things, and Love your neighbor as yourself. Taking care of our families well is loving our neighbor as ourself and also loving God above all things because we are being a good steward of what God has put before us. In the Orthodox Christian faith, we learn to say the Jesus Prayer ("Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." This can be condensed to as simply as "Lord, have mercy".). And we learn to make the sign of the cross whenever we see fit throughout the day as a prayer to God. These are a couple of simple ways to pray without ceasing while we tend to the gifts God has given us.
I recently heard it said that men have to go out and seek God, but God comes to meet women where they are. The person cited some Bible stories to back up this idea and it makes so much sense. God shows us (women) Himself in the beauty of watching children grow and serving others. There are times when we need to be Mary and have our quite time with Jesus, but often we find ourselves being Martha in service of others and both are good.
Clicked on this so quickly. I needed this today. 😢
I just...love you and your channel! So good for my soul❤ thank you for being a peaceful and truly good voice in this world ❤😊
Leaving now to go pray
Not because this is bad,but because it did me good. Thank you!
YES!!!!!!! Thank you Lisa!!
Oh how I needed this.
Even as an Empty Nester who occupies my day with barely cleaning, or babysitting my Grandbabies… I’m constantly distracted.
Even as a practicing Titus 2 woman, I’m not where I’d like to be Spiritually
Empty-nester here too. I am enjoying getting my life to a simple life. Not feeling like I have to fill every minute with something or anything. 😊
Vintagebeliever…I agree…that is key…not giving in the the pressure that we “have” to be “productive” every second of every day.
Baby sounds are the most beautiful music in life!
Love this! How we use our phone is how our kids will use it. Ive been trying to view my phone as a tool, not entertainment.
Wow, as soon as you mentioned what her book was about I knew I needed it. Such a fruitful conversation.
Scripture memorization is great, cause when you can't get to reading God's Word, you can mediate on what you've memorized. 😊
Lisa, I like what you said that you are reminded of your convictions several times over the years. I think that is important, that God's Word is able to keep us in line like that.
As Katie said, it helps to pursue that relationship with God. I spent years and years reading the Bible every single day and it impacted my day and life, but I decided to go a year once without reading it. . and that impacted my life in a not so great way!! I learned a lot in that time.
Gosh this hit on every level!!! I will be revisiting this one periodically to try to get back in check. As a mom of four older kids (19-32) I totally relate to the "when things slow down, but never do". I ALSO completely relate to always creating new projects to fill my time and then some. 😏 I'm actually happiest when I'm busy, but I ALSO slip down that slippery rabbit hole of scrolling, mostly for ideas but still realize I've used minutes I don't get back at the end of the day. THANK YOU FOR THIS!!
Also super interested in your 5 day blogging course.
Wonderful conversation, thanks for including us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻💕💕
Glad you enjoyed it!
So encouraged that God has a purpose for my days and that there's power in the work I do. 🥰
This was so good!
Thank you Lisa for these conversations, podcast is helping so many moms and women stay focused on what matters and that the work we do matters ❤
Oh man, I'm so glad I'm not the only one! Thank you for sharing this!
-Ashley
Thank you so much for sharing!❤ very encouraged & inspired❤
So glad!
Totally breaking up. Getting a land line put in next week and we're ditching the smart phones for good. Going back to the better way of communicating..actually talking on a phone.
I loved this❤ thank you ladies so much
You are so welcome!
Excellent! Such a good word!
❤❤❤
I am a parent of a special needs adult 23 son. I have taking care of my grandchildren one 15 and 5 years old from birth and I still pick up and drop off school, activities, dentist and doctor appointments. I’m actually busier now and get tired faster because I’m not young anymore. 😂
I needed this! 🙌🏽
I watched a program yesterday on TV. The gentleman said they did a study on cell phone usage, the study showed it causes distraction and short attention span.
Thank you for this topic. It’s hard because I want to learn everything lol 😆
Gosh this vlog really spoke to me, really helpful! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
This was so encouraging to listen to! Thank you so much 😊
Appreciate this vlog. Interested to read the book. Have ordered it today.
Pastor Joseph Prince has a UA-cam sermon entitled breaking up with your phone or something close to that. This information is invaluable. Please try to listen to him, his holy spirit inspired sermons are life changing. Be blessed.
I needed this. This was wonderful. Thank you.
New subscriber! 1st video I’ve watched.
THANK YOUUUU 🙌🏽♥️
Welcome!!
Great video :) thank you so true !
❤ thanks for this episode
Childrens brains are being hardwired to distraction. Someone just told me the story of how they had a large age difference in there children. They have always been a volunteer sports coach for their children. Over the years the children on the teams have changed and no longer no how to pay attention the same way teams could years ago.
NEEEEEEEDED THIS 🙏😲✨
I have two people that get angry if I don’t respond to their text messages. Before texting (email), I would respond to emails only in the afternoon so I could get my work done.
10:50 in, what she says makes me think about how God is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. We are not. I just wonder if it's the enemy's plan to try to get us to unintentionally try to be "like God" like he said he would and like in the garden when he told Eve should would be like God knowing good and evil 🤔 Also, getting us to do something that is so unattainable and making us so distracted that we become ineffective Christians.
I made homemade tomato soup today. I’m seriously trying to be more mindful. I feel addicted to my phone and as a SAHM I am ashamed to admit
All of us have to start somewhere!
@simplefarmhouselife Hi there, does Katie Westenburg no longer have a website, because the link isn't working.
Please talk about or do video on how you make breastfeeding work with a large family. Breastfeeding is so hard!!!!!!
"as Christians" is this podcast for only christians ?!!
No, but I'm speaking from a Christian perspective.
