In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives.
Elden Ring takes place in the fictional Lands Between, a realm ruled by demigods after the disappearance of the immortal Queen Marika. The story begins when Marika shatters the Elden Ring, a powerful cosmic artifact that embodies order and was housed in the Erdtree, a giant golden tree. The demigods then fight over the shards of the ring, called Great Runes, which corrupt them with power. When no clear successor emerges from the war, the Greater Will, an unknowable god who favors order over chaos, turns to the Tarnished, a banished warrior people, to restore order and ascend the Elden Throne. As a Tarnished, the player journeys across the dying Lands Between, given the chance to become lord by restoring the Elden Ring."
