Yes, it's supposed to do that... It took repeated applications of penetrating oil just to get the soundbox to rotate. Although I did find the detent to release it, I couldn't get it to budge. 100 year old pot metal- don't wanna get too brutal with it. I think the spring and ball inside the catch are corroded.
@@Mark5W8Comer Rotate the reproducer so that the needle points straight along the arm. Wiggle and wobble and the reproducer will come off. Once you get it apart, you will see the slot that the pin slides out in. Reassemble by holding the reproducer pointing the needle holder along the arm, wiggle it on until it's home, then rotate until you hear a gentle click. That is running orientation.
Thank you for the inspiration
MUCH easier if you can get the soundbox off of the tonearm! Mine was stuck, didn't want to stress the delicate pot metal too much.
The sound box.will.pull.off.in.that position. Its held.on with.a pressure clip

No need to.take.the.whole.tone.arm
Off
It didn't pull off as it should. The retaining ball is corroded.
You made easy hard.
I really don’t know HOW MANY TIMES I have to say that the SOUND BOX IS STUCK AND WILL *NOT* COME OFF!!
