I had tickets for the April 11th game this year which was "Ketel Marte bobblehead night"... I still want that bobblehead, and I'm still convinced that this is the beginning of a hall of fame career!
So disappointed to have baseball postponed/cancelled... I was really expecting to see Marte become a superstar this season. Dbacks fans complained a lot about the Segura trade until we realized what we got in Marte. Loved Segura, but Marte has been a beast! Thanks for this video.
As a Mariners fan the trade wasn’t that bad for us. We got Mitch Haniger (All-Star and 10.6 WAR) and Jean Segura (All-Star and 6.7 WAR for us) and the potential is only a little bit stronger for Ketel than Mitch. We traded out Ketel Marte (All-Star with 12.6 WAR) And Taijuan Walker (2.9 WAR). Overall Diamond Backs got 15.5 WAR and Mariners got 17.3 WAR as it stands now plus we got Taijuan back on the team going into 2020
But Jean is starting to regress, while Marte is just 24 years young. And If Marte keeps up what he did in 2019, he might be a future MVP. That being said, in all realisticness, it’s a fair trade on both sides IMO.
It was a a San Francisco writer who voted for him. Giving a 10th place vote to someone on your home team is fine, but Pillar may not even be a top 100 player in the NL, let alone top 10

i remember when the dbags traded jean segura for marte and walker and us dbags fans were confused since segura had a career year but deep down i became a fan of marte since i believed the front saw something in him to trade a all star caliber player for as well as to acquire walker who had high potential at the moment. in retrospect both teams kinda planned out since we also gave away mitch haniger on top of segura and he has been an asset for seattle
Yeah, at the time we all mostly thought of it as the Segura/Walker trade, but it's definitely the Marte/Haniger trade now (I'm a Mariners fan, so I think about that trade about as much as you do).
Honestly we got Segura for an All-Star season and got Mitch Haniger and his All-Star season. I miss Ketel but this trade considering the turn out wasn’t much of a loss for the Ms

I have a question about pull tendencies. You talked in this video about how marte pulled the ball more and went oppo less last season and improved his results, but we see with players like gallo that teams often do excessive shifts to combat this. I guess my question is once teams start shifting will it still be in his interest to have such a high pull tendency?
That's a really good question and I suppose as long as he hits the ball hard when he pulls it, then he'll be fine. Maybe he won't get as many singles but he'll still get his fair share of extra base hits
And another thing is that he has plus speed so he can easily bunt his way on if they shift too aggressively which is something I didn't think about before. Thanks for the reply I just found this channel and the content is really good! Keep it up and the subs will follow for sure 👍
I watched almost every AB he had last year (dbacks fan). When he hits righty teams would shift, most of his power is when he hits righty, and he pulls everything. When he hits lefty, which is a lot more, he’s still more of a slap hitter and go the other way a decent amount, so you can’t really put a shift on then. He’s a weird blend of two different types of hitters and it’s awesome
