I’m an island girl and seeing the middle of the melon is the sweetest part we cut our melons long ways from tip to tip in wedges hence each slice as the middle sweet section and noooooooo one gets stuck with just the ends 😂…. Same with pineapples … never round slices but wedges as the bottom of the pineapple is the sweetest❤

The reason to cut a watermelon in the traditional way is so each peice has a bit of the sweet center on it. When you cut it this way, your edges don't get any of the sweeter center, so they get thrown away.

I do the opposite; I take off the rind, and eat the watermelon starting from the outside, working my way inward, toward the middle (so that every bite becomes better & better), until I get to the ultimate best part at the very last bite. It ain't that hard to get a sharp knife lmao, use a whetsone and honing rod (both pretty cheap) and any half decent Wallmart kitchen knife can become as sharp as this.
