you peoples forget how a short diff performs on a car :) By no means a N/A b28 can accellerate that fast,no matter what you are throwing at it. Max whp with cams ,tune and all the shit is in the 210~220 with dedication. Or a 220whp e36 never ever go that fast (judging by the speedo).
@sw4gr1d i am talking about WHP, 220whp equals around 260bhp; you are talking about BHP. It is possible to achieve ¬280BHP with an increase in cc , 3.0 stroker option. Individual throttle bodies gives response,but robs torque from 2.8 engines. A slight peak of ``xxx``hp does nothing in the accelleration department, a proper spread of decent HP over the top few thoulsand rpms does the job for that. Of course, 2.8 can be prepped for more than 300hp ,but this wont be 2.8 anymore and the investment will be way more than that car value after all is done.
@sw4gr1d ...i think my calculations are pretty exact -> 260bhp - 15% train loss (39bhp) = 221WHP, so my numbers are more accurate than yours. I own an e36 328i and i know how it goes and by how many bhp, i put my actual e36 (M54B30) whan it was purely stock,except differential against an e36 with all plug&play (intake-CAI+M50,exhaust- equal headers,no cats,straight pipes,tune - serious one,diff 3.15) except cams , and was a no match even for STOCK 231bhp M54.(off course,on the same chasis)
@sw4gr1d I know. i`m talking from my experience,its not "a must" the things i say! 280BHP is possible to be touched as a peak,but almost meaningless if it is just a final 1k revs crest ,unless you have a tall gearing! But if you have a tall gearing,you loose time by the gear changes,cause your rpm will be lower enough to cost you accelleration. If you put a short gearing...is even worse,only advantage for such a creation is a custom close gearing gearbox. We take a long leap at this if we continue, so ,a short idea of mine : to accellerate faster, b28 needs a broader powerband ,so need displacement, head work, cams to take that 280whp credentials. M54B30 can reach over 320~340BHP on stock intarnals, just a head work, all the plug&plays and a proper tune....,so its cheaper and way more powerfull.

For ~300bhp on e36 , best option (from stop acceleration) was 3.38 ,and i think 3.15 will be better. 3.45 is the last diff that i will ever use for drag and daily driving (is the cheapest,to )! 2.93 is way too long to start from dig with, but was better from roll ons ; 3.60 PITA from dig and from roll ons ,too many shifts, too short of covered distance per gear, and chasis is moved mainly by engine rpms ,and not by torque. I not even imagine how it is to drive a 3.90...or wtf somebody use that ratio ? ...i understand if you got the 8400 rpm from top end workout ,combined with an aggresive cam profile that builds power there, but for ~7000rpm engine? ..3.60 give you a top speed of ~175km/h ,not enough even for high 13sec 1/4mile in the perfect scenario!

That's weird because The m52 block is aluminum. At least in the euro version. Is the US version different?
