The Funk Brothers were the session musicians for most of the Motown acts. Their legacy is heard on every track. Think of the opening bass notes of My Girl - another Smokey song. 💜
Smokey Robinson was the founder & front man of the Motown vocal group the Miracles from the 50's-70's. They had lots of great hits including "You've Really Got a Hold on Me", "Mickey's Monkey", "I Second That Emotion", "Ooo Baby Baby", "Going To A Go-Go", "The Tracks Of My Tears" etc. He wrote many hit songs for other Motown artists such as Mary Wells, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Marvelettes, Marvin Gaye & others.
One of my favorite vocalists ever. I’ve seen him 4 times in concert and yet… finding out the lyrics watching this - 50 yrs later! My verses were “sounds like” words. 😂💜

for me, this is one of his BEST songs ever, listen to quiet storm circa 1973
To Asia & BJ : " Smokey " Robinson was FAR more than just a singer. He composed / Arranged / orchestrated the music on all songs he wrote in his time at Motown. And, in the early & mid--60's, I was always able to tell if a song was a " Smokey Song ", because of the intelligence of the lyrics & the perfect arrangements for both music & vocals. From the great-----great early Temptations songs , to a personal favorite, " When I'm Gone ", by Brenda Holloway , to " The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game", by The Marvellettes, on & on ; I could always tell if it was a Smokey song, & production. Now, compare them, to songs composed by Brian & Eddie Holland., & Lamont Dozier, which includes the early monster hits by The Supremes & The 4 Tops. COMPLETELY different sound---------lyrical approach -----------totally different . Again, for whatever reasons, I was always able to tell the difference. ----------------------------MJL, 76 y/o

Nobody can sing Ooos like Smokey! 'Ooo Baby Baby' is one of my all time favorite songs❤🔥 And so is 'My Girl' by the Tempts, which, of course Smokey wrote. He's such a treasure✨

Released in '69, I was 12. My older sister introduced me to Motown and Smokey.
His voice is so smooth and you can relate to all of his songs.

Here’s a little constructive comment from me. You need to either place your microphones closer to your mouths or turn up the volume, I can barely hear you two and this is with headphones on and my volume turned up.
Also, the volume of the songs you play could also be turned up. I’m not sure if it’s possible to perform a sound check before you start recording but it might help?

THE MIRACLES were MOTOWN’S FIRST GROUP. It was THEIR SUCCESS that opened the doors for ALL THE OTHERS…and they wrote the HIT SONGS for MOST of them…
Smokey's voice was/is incredible it's true, but I think what is even more noteworthy is his ability to put words together that convey both emotional and romantic sense.
Try Rock and Roll and Rythm and Blues Hall of Famers " Little Anthony and The Imperials singing ( Hurt So Bad and also Going Out of my Head ) that's on UA-cam . They are one of the pioneers of American music !!! 🤎✊🏾👍🏾💯
