When Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) first sees Annie Reed (Meg Ryan) in Sleepless in Seattle, it's at SeaTac airport gate N7 (scene @9:48) which I have personally used several times, including departing the US in 1992 bound for Hawaii en route to New Zealand, to go live far away for six years. So watching that scene is like re-living a life-changing moment. Yes it's personal, and it was/is. In the 29 years since I still look at that Sea-Tac gate with a sense of nostalgia.
Gene has a point about Sleepless but Hollywood has often used music as a handicap or buffer! It's technically a story telling cheat but I will make an exception in this case since the music was so wonderfully chosen! One of the best modern day romantic comedies!!
The Firm: exciting & intriguing 👍🌟🌟🌟 Orlando: Special & satisfied👍🌟🌟🌟🌟 Dennis the Menace: Home Alone rip-off 👎🌟🌟 Sleepless in Seattle: good love story 👍🌟🌟🌟
In an old issue of Mad magazine, they show a comic of Dennis the Menace walking into the kitchen (where his mom is) carrying a human skull and saying, "Hey Mom. Look what I found in Mr. Wilson's head."
I have a personal connection to Sleepless in Seattle. I was chosen by the studio who made the movie to preview it MONTHS before it came out around Christmas 1992. They asked me what I liked about it and what I didn't like about it. I, then, saw it in theatres when it came out in June 1993. Still it is in my top 20 of all time.
Have watched about 10 of these old episodes on YT. Hard to explain why S and E were so great, except two very talented and brilliant men. Deeper mystery: Why can't this formula be repeated? Because the two people were special? Because of the era/times? Wish a media company could "re-boot" this magic!
Remember that they worked for years on PBS to get it right. They burned off a lot of episodes to make it work. What also helped was they way they were truthful in issues.
Their chemistry was unique. They were fiercely competitive, even after they eventually became friends. They were always trying to one-up the other (and not in a playful way), becoming furious when the other succeeded. And yet, they respected and admired each other, because professionally they had the same love for movies even if they didn't always have the same taste in them. It was lightning in a bottle.
I have yet to watch The Firm all the way through. It looks really good from what I did see. I will watch it at again some point. I saw Sleepless In Seattle with my parents as a little kid. Have not watched it in quite some time. All I really remember is near the end when they finally do meet. With Dennis the Menace I'll agree with Siskel and Ebert that the focus should've stayed on the hijinks involving Dennis and Mr. Wilson instead of the homeless guy played by Christopher Lloyd But as a little kid I enjoyed it. The other two I haven't seen at all.
Okay, I agree with S&E that Christopher Lloyd's character in Dennis the Menace is dark, grimy and unnecessary (especially for a family film). But here's a question for them (particularly Ebert), "How are you going to give this movie a thumbs down, because of the kidnapper/Thief who pulls a switchblade out on Little kids, and yet you gave thumbs up to Cop and a Half (another kids movie from 1993), where Devon witnessed a murder, was kidnapped, exposed to drugs (by that, I meant he saw them), and at one point, had a gun pointed at him?" Just askin'.

Well, he wasn’t so much kidnapped, it was just that Dennis ran away on his own, after realizing the trouble that he caused, during Mr. Wilson’s flower ceremony- only because Sam stole Mr. Wilson’s “gold”, from his safe, just moments before, and announced that “somebody robbed your house!”, as an emergency call. After George expressed his true frustration that made him run away from their home (and all he said recently to him), he then realized his big mistake and tried his best to figure out where he had gone.

Why like House of Cards & dislike The Firm?🤔
@@Jbaxter85 1. Overloaded and predictable climactic scenes
2. Tom Cruise is clearly acting, and is not believable in the role.
3. A glossy, Hollywoodized adaptation that gives disservice to the book (a high-octane legal thriller)
@@5andup You obviously have some weird prejudice against Tom Cruise. His acting was brilliant, as always.
If you asked 100 people if they liked "The Firm," 99 or 100 would say yes.
Sleepless in Seattle was junk to me.
