It's sweet. No matter how cool some one is, no matter how funny someone is. Their children will only see them as their annoying/embarrassing parent. Lol
4c1dr3fl3x I don't know if you ever watched the show Justified. Super bad ass show. Where the main character is cool af. But the actor Timothy Olyphant is the same way with his kids. Even though he plays this badass dude. His kids see him as their boring old father.
I got a grandkid now, and it's funny because he actually snoops around my house, and touches all my toys (snowboards, surfboard, skateboards, BMX bikes, dirt and street bikes, SCUBA gear, paintball guns, etc.) and all my old Army uniforms and stuff hidden in the closet. HE actually think I'm cool, and calls me teach them him to do all this stuff. But he always...sneaks around my daughters to do it, because they are still stuck in "My dad is embarassing" mode and say it loud and often around him. They are very fond of reminding me I am "Immature" because I still got hobbies and am in no way sad about being divorced. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Go nuts with your grandkids, and teach them to live life and not be a bunch of squares. It's the best revenge against your kids.
I used to say that from time to time I would take few days off from my family and so I can go to my other house by myself and XD 9 year old me was sure, that my future family will exhaust me.
I didn't know what a gap year was until my mid 20s. I find it amazing that other Americans can even afford to take a year off and travel or do literally nothing...it's not an option I ever had, nor my friends or classmates. I graduated college almost a decade ago, so I'm way past my chance to take a gap year, but regardless, I just find it so interesting. A little jealous of course, but really I just find it interesting that kids even have the option to take a gap year. I met a lot of people like this moving from the south to NYC.
jitensha We can take a gap year, but I think adults look down on people who say that. I want to save money and not switch. I told people that I'm taking a gap year. My aunt thinks I won't go because of it, and adults at my school told me not to that it's a bad idea.
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen will farrel being himself and not a character... I say think because I don’t know how he would really be....I guess all I can say for sure is this is the least silliest I’ve ever seen him.
You guys should then check out the "Comedians in cars getting coffee" episode with Will. And in general I found guests on that show are WAY more down to earth
I love how before they even said "you really only said one word in the sketch" I was thinking I bet the sketch was just Will yelling "What?!!!" in that classic way that only Will can. It sounds hysterical.
They finally did this skit on "Second Chance Theatre" recently. It was glorious and I think they did make it take 8 minutes, at least it seemed that long.
OMG! That’s the Doctor Poop sketch! I always wondered what the back story was on that. That’s one of my favorites! “I lost your baby....Son of a vondruke!” 😂
Fun Fact: Will and his wife helped close out Conan's last Tonight Show with a musical performance. Will's wife was nine months pregnant and gave birth the following day. That kid is now seven, damn.
Mr. Kotter!! Of course I do.. Stupid auto correct! But that's what makes it so funny to me. Will used Gabe Kaplan as the visiting celeb! How late at night of a caffeine bender did he come up with this gem! lol.. Re-run from What's Happening would topped it though..
This makes me sad for the forgotten Gabe Kaplan. I LOVED Welcome Back, Kotter; it was a hugely popular show and put John Travolta on the map as a dimwitted heartthrob. I hope Travolta hasn't see this, as it would probably make him sad, too. In fact, I'm going to tweet Gabe Kaplan right now to see how he's holding up. So sad...
I had almost that exact same conversation with my son.We have done our best to provide the best childhood possible. But my wife and I,literally laughed AT his face. He was 18 until he figured out how truly poor we were. Either college or work and preferably full time of both. Not either or. 😂 😂
And on the gambling side, Gabe Kaplan is one of the most popular commentators on high stakes and professional-level televised poker. See if you can find episodes of a series called "High Stakes Poker" floating around UA-cam. Gabe commentated the program for the first 6 seasons, and you'll probably enjoy hearing him.
The Stuport this one joke is funnier than any Will Ferrell sketch or film I've ever seen. And I would note that the worst sketchy ever did was when they clearly try to improvise for real in a doctor's office sketch and literally nobody knew what to say to move the sketch forward.
chinookvalley---- Was said in jest. I was referring to how much Will Ferrell reminds me of Wayne Rogers who actually played the character Trapper John. Hope that helps
J Jones--- Yes...i was kidding about Will actually being in the old TV show M*A*S*H*...but not kidding about how much he reminds me of Wayne Rogers who was in the show.
This scenario is reminiscent to Bill hader and Kristen wiig when they did their Catherine Hepburn and whoever hater was playing skit where she brought a Christmas tree onto the set and it had a raccoon in it. That was an extremely dated skit.
I'm all for gap years, and wish I would have done one before I got into the cycle of going to college by way of student loans. I feel if I would have taken a gap year, I would have realized there were other ways to be successful in life. Long story not-so short, I never finished college, I'm 150,000 in student loan debt, middle aged and homeless. Thanks for listening.
Current late-night hosts are so, so bad at question delivery. There is no flow to the conversations at all. We all know that guests and hosts discuss the questions/subjects before taping, but with Myers & co., it is like they are reading from a checklist.
Will Farrell's movies are kind of hit or miss, but it was refreshing to see him actually as a normal person for the interview. He's usually one of those comedians that are always "on", like Jim Carrey.
There have been three "glues" on SNL: Phil, Will, and Keenan. They could hold together even the shittiest skit, rarely broke character, and always sold the jokes.
Ironically, I've just recently started watching that show :) courtesy of late-night television on those obscure channels that exclusively play classic sitcoms reruns.
We finally got the sketch tonight six and a half years later 😂😂😂😂
I don’t remember the last time I saw will act so normal lol
MikefromQueens I
right... this is the first interview i've seen where he wasnt in some weird ass character... like Little Debbie...
MikefromQueens Check out his Off Camera interview with Sam Jones. He’s even more low key in that interview than he is here.
MikefromQueens he never does on these shows
I thought the same thing!
It's sweet. No matter how cool some one is, no matter how funny someone is. Their children will only see them as their annoying/embarrassing parent. Lol
And that, is called life...
Classic example? Two words: Ozzy. Osbourne.
4c1dr3fl3x I don't know if you ever watched the show Justified. Super bad ass show. Where the main character is cool af. But the actor Timothy Olyphant is the same way with his kids. Even though he plays this badass dude. His kids see him as their boring old father.

Figs3 you lost me when you implied that Will Ferrall is funny.
"it's a gap year - you just hang out!!!!!" oh boy
I've had lots of gap years.
I love how Seth talks so much about snl with the snl alumni. I really enjoy hearing about the show from their point of view.
This is not Seth Rogan. That is Will Ferrell wow don’t look or sound anything alike.
Janes Fair something tells me that they were talking about the person in this named Seth, not fucking Seth Rogen
Janes Fair nope, it is Seth Meyers, though
Naaahhhhh geez I didn’t know no one could take a joke around here
neither sarcasm nor facetiousness works on the internet
The whole “gap year” made me laugh because I said those exact same things when I was younger XD
tbh it's not a bad idea..coming from someone who switched majors twice..Could have saved like 15gs if I did that 😐
I used to say that from time to time I would take few days off from my family and so I can go to my other house by myself and XD 9 year old me was sure, that my future family will exhaust me.
me too, it is just so relatable... can you IMAGINE being a child of will ferrell?!!?!?!?!?
I didn't know what a gap year was until my mid 20s. I find it amazing that other Americans can even afford to take a year off and travel or do literally nothing...it's not an option I ever had, nor my friends or classmates. “I’m going to turn this 3 minute gem into an 8 minute turd” 😂😆😂
The Story of SNL
Who the hell wants to work at The Gap for a whole year?
I did, but I worked
Isn't that how your mom refers to the year in which she dated WD Harris (You know, 'cause she was gaped out for the whole year)?
Its to break you down to nothing
I know!!! I couldn't work there for less than 25 years cuz it's such a cool place!!!
Lol
I wanna do a gap life
You are
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen will farrel being himself and not a character... I say think because I don’t know how he would really be....I guess all I can say for sure is this is the least silliest I’ve ever seen him.
cdw442 I think you're right. He's definitely more relaxed around Seth than other late night hosts.
You guys should then check out the "Comedians in cars getting coffee" episode with Will. And in general I found guests on that show are WAY more down to earth
He’s great on Craig Ferguson
What are you talking about he is Ron Burgundy
I love how before they even said "you really only said one word in the sketch" I was thinking I bet the sketch was just Will yelling "What?!!!" in that classic way that only Will can. It sounds hysterical.
Will Ferrell as a 50-yr old man-child in "Gap Year." Coming next summer.
Please write the script!
Literally Step Brothers
I wish I took a gap year, instead of 20.
sarcasmo57 same
Lol me too
Hoo boy
Friend of mine did a gap year in 1998, still on it.
Theres something about the way he tells stories that makes them so hilarious
Will Ferrell: "You don't understand. You have to do something constructive."
Will Ferrell's son: "You don't understand. I'm Will Ferrell's son."
They finally did this skit on "Second Chance Theatre" recently. It was glorious and I think they did make it take 8 minutes, at least it seemed that long.
It took 6 years but they finally did it
6 yrs later and they finally did it
Will Ferrell seems real, here. Like a relief. He should talk more often as a person, we can definitely handle it
He looks nice too.
OMG! That’s the Doctor Poop sketch! I always wondered what the back story was on that. That’s one of my favorites! “I lost your baby....Son of a vondruke!” 😂
It is difficult imagining Will as a rational parent or even a rational adult.
I'm taking a gap year between my gap years, been doing way too much hanging out and I just need a break ya know
His love for his family appears to be very sincere ... I like that :-)
That sketch really sounds like some of the more frustrating dreams I've had...
you dream of being Gabe Kaplan?
Ingeborg Anne Rakvåg i remember it kinda. It was bad
+Lyle W - No. She dreams of being Lyle W. 😒
Ingeborg Anne Rakvåg hi, I just wanted to say I think you are very pretty. Not looking for anything, just giving a compliment
Wow, yeah. Will's son has inspired me to take a gap year.
Fun Fact: Will and his wife helped close out Conan's last Tonight Show with a musical performance. Will's wife was nine months pregnant and gave birth the following day. That kid is now seven, damn.
P Hill thanks I feel so fucking old now
That is a fun fact. Thanks.
Wait, what? Unless The Ferell's used to moonlight as a little Band called The White Stripes, something doesn't add up here.
I totally saw that episode! I had no idea she had her baby the next day; she was huge in her little WT outfit, LOL.
@@AkiroKiro that was Conan's final late night, before he took over the tonight show
I took a gap decade. Oops.
Trevor Turner me too. Literally.
Trevor Turner < Back to the future Principal Strickland voice > SLACKERS!!!!!!
that's what I need to do
Trevor Turner 😂😂😂
Yeah, the gap year turns into a gap decade real quick, lol.
Will Ferrell’s kid is just as funny as him
tss6295 just as funny as HE
@@lexiconlover , you are missing a COMMA.
Ron Breier, I love you.
...just as funny as he is.
Of he could get paid for his funny he could take that gap year.
Gabe Kaplan is the hero of the Battle of the Network stars who dusted crybaby bully Robert Conrad in a showdown race.
OMG I thought I was the only one that remembered that.🤣
No!!!
You are hilarious, Kitty.
OK, anyone else dying to see the original Gabe Kaplan based SNL sketch, now?
Abso-frigging-lately! And let me tell you what my uncle used to tell me....
YES!!!!
This guy is NEVER out of character!
Whaaaaaaat?!? They did a Game Kaplan themed sketch and didn't tell me?!? Whaaat?!?
drumsNstuff79 Didn’t make it to air. Bill Hader explained the sketch much better and funnier on Norm MacDonald Lovr
GABE Kaplan... Something tells you me you don't know really who that is
Mr. Kotter!! Of course I do.. Stupid auto correct! But that's what makes it so funny to me. Will used Gabe Kaplan as the visiting celeb! How late at night of a caffeine bender did he come up with this gem! lol.. Re-run from What's Happening would topped it though..
Hey, hey, hey! I know that's Duanne, but it made more sense than Dee's, "Ooooh, you're in trouble!". You can't really verbalize the Re-Run dance...
I want a follow up on what Will's kid thinks about gap-year now. Should be graduating soon.
So sad...
"I feel the need to punish the audience" good for you Will! If I'm going down I'm taking everybody with me!
I had almost that exact same conversation with my son.We have done our best to provide the best childhood possible. But my wife and I,literally laughed AT his face. He was 18 until he figured out how truly poor we were. Either college or work and preferably full time of both. Not either or. 😂 😂
I’ve been on a Gap year for 9 years. Still dunno.
how u make money
I've had the exact same talk about gap years with my son!! Lol I want a gap year too
Well. They really did it.
I could've sworn I've heard that exact same "gap year" bit from someone else. Like another comic.
When lord when we need this Gabe Kaplan sketch!!
i was born about 20 years after welcome back, kotter ended and i LOVE that show...i will watch that sketch for you, will!!
Sophie Lesher I’m with you sister. John Travolta!?!Hell yeah.
Don't forget Horshack and Epstein. "Up your nose with a rubber hose!" was a go to line of mine as a kid, lol!
I remember watching Will Ferrell on *M*A*S*H as Trapper John in the mid 70's....He looks great all these years later!
The Stuport this one joke is funnier than any Will Ferrell sketch or film I've ever seen. And I would note that the worst sketchy ever did was when they clearly try to improvise for real in a doctor's office sketch and literally nobody knew what to say to move the sketch forward.
Mike Ferrell, but I do not think it was ever with Will Ferrell, especially in the 70's.
chinookvalley---- Was said in jest. I was referring to how much Will Ferrell reminds me of Wayne Rogers who actually played the character Trapper John. Hope that helps
R u kidding?
J Jones--- Yes...i was kidding about Will actually being in the old TV show M*A*S*H*...but not kidding about how much he reminds me of Wayne Rogers who was in the show.
Actually because of the surge of Texas Hold Em TV shows in the 2000s, Gabe Kaplan is probably more well known now than he would have been in 2000.
One of the all time best comedians. Defiantly carved his own lane!
Defiantly.
First time id ever think I'd see him ask "is it funny" 😂
This scenario is reminiscent to Bill hader and Kristen wiig when they did their Catherine Hepburn and whoever hater was playing skit where she brought a Christmas tree onto the set and it had a raccoon in it. That was an extremely dated skit.
Well damn... 2020 turned out to be a gap year for me. And a few hundred thousand other people...
“You don’t think this is funny? Now you’re gonna really not think it’s funny. I’m turning this 3 minute gem into an 8 minute turd.” Hahaha!!!
Did they ever recreate the skit?!
It’s been 4 years since this aired, I wonder what’s happening with his son’s gap year.
he's probably an awesome dad
Seth Meyers always reminds me of - if Jason Mraz drank 5 Red Bulls
Michael Martino Composer While at the same time, remaining extremely likable.
He's such an amazing person when not playing a character.
Oh my GOD I want to see that sketch so bad! Ferrell torturing the audience for 8 minutes?! YES!
that's every Will Ferrell sketch ever on SNL.
They could re-do the sketch, but make it about Gabe Kapler, Phillies manager.
This is the most interesting Will Ferrell I"ve seen since SNL.
I just watched a clip of The Office and then this, and they both have Welcome Back, Kotter references. 😳
Hope things are going better for you, if not at least the debts a bit less now 😉
I love Seth's interviewing style, he makes the guest feel comfortable, not like the cringefest that is a Colbert interview
People were laughing but he wasn’t joking when he said Kaplan is a pro gambler. Been in the poker scene for decades.
Jimmy Fallon gets all the hate for his fake laughing but I gotta say, Seth is right up there with him.
Current late-night hosts are so, so bad at question delivery. There is no flow to the conversations at all. We all know that guests and hosts discuss the questions/subjects before taping, but with Myers & co., it is like they are reading from a checklist.
That's why I loved Jon Stewart! There was no prep before the interview.
Will Ferrell in comedy called Gap Year..make it happen!!!
If my kids want a gap year without working, I'll at least lend them a tent because they aren't going to be "hanging out" at my house.
What’s great about Will is his commitment to the joke! 8 minuet turds 💩 and all!😂😂😂
I'm 40. My gap year never ended. :)
YES! I love the second chance theater, hope we keep getting some more of those!
Wish I could take a gap year.
Will Farrell's movies are kind of hit or miss, but it was refreshing to see him actually as a normal person for the interview. He's usually one of those comedians that are always "on", like Jim Carrey.
Now I want to see that sketch!
How could you spend so much time discussing the sketch and never even show it? Even if it's only online.
This was the most authentic Will Ferrell interview...
That fade tho...
Will Ferrell has children... let that sink in
Why?
Because it's cold outside and the sink forgot its jacket.
Daniel Naranjo Yeah I do not want to think of Will Ferrells ' O ' face
Daniel Naranjo 😂😂😂
181cameron I actually just L'ed OL!
There have been three "glues" on SNL: Phil, Will, and Keenan. They could hold together even the shittiest skit, rarely broke character, and always sold the jokes.
His sons idea of a gap year is funny!
From my understanding it wasn't a SNL sketch but rather a scene from "Daddy's Home 2".
Dude, I just clicked on this today I'm in luck! Can we get a update on the gap year?? 😂🤣
The Gabe Kaplan sketch is available to SNL cast and cast members are told to watch it for Will’s epic response to a completely uninterested audience
There is a 2007 movie called the Grand, mockumentory about gambling with Gabe Kaplan in it!
I NEED THE GABE KAPLAN SKETCH
You are not alone.
I love Gabe Kaplan!
Will Ferrell has a nauseatingly good-looking family. LOL!
For the record, that sketch was fucking hilarious.
It's been 3 years... Where's our Gabe Kaplan sketch?
never thought ferrell could ever b out of [a] character
Dope ass haircut.
He was excited about his move to Juventus
Lol I'm surprised to see this comment. I'm sitting her staring at his haircut hoping for a close-up.
Yeah it looks good. The best I've seen Will look aging handsomely with the grey.
Ironically, I've just recently started watching that show :) courtesy of late-night television on those obscure channels that exclusively play classic sitcoms reruns.
Weren't they all? Wait...More Cowbell!
Exactly. The only funny Will Ferrell sketch and I don't think he even had a line.
Gabe Kaplan is under appreciated, he is hysterical when he host Poker after Dark
I always wondered why the boring sketches seemed to last so long.
My understanding of a gap year was that the point is to chill for a bit before Adult Responsibilities kick in.
Even when he acts normal seems like he's in character.
Wow. Will Ferrell being normal. I don't know how I'm feeling lol
The thought of a sketch based on a Gabe Kaplan fanatic is so absurd that I have to see it.
Hahah damn he could at least travel in his gap year lol
is there a video anywhere of the gabe kaplan sketch?
Seth is my favorite. Rocks the hell out of late night host
