      @markcumbriauk NOOOOO!!!! 🤣 I love the salty Vegemite right off the spoon! I've got to order it from online because barely anyone eats it here. I think the only Vegemite the Americans know about is from listening to Men at Work. 🤣🤣🤣

      Hello Jeanne. Yes, brown sugar. The first ingredient in the store bought package is maltodextrin. That lends a sweet flavor. 😊

      Hi sweetsue. I watched her a while back, also. As an influencer, consecrater, whatever youtube creators are called now, I understand the work that goes into having a channel and it's time consuming. Maybe she changed her priorities and no longer had the time or energy to invest in it. 🤷‍♀️ I liked her! 😊

      @missbackwoods Hi miss backwoods. That is a fantastic idea and I wish more people would do that. We always have our family favorite recipes and my sister and I fought to get some of our grandmother's recipes after she died. Our aunt got the recipe box! Your daughter is going to treasure this and I appreciate you adding this recipe to it. 😊

    I really like buttermilk but I've been making kefir (and have a lot of it). Do you think kefir would go good to make this ranch dressing.

      @@OuttheBackDoor OH YEAH! First of all I thought I had powdered milk in my pantry -- wrong! I had powdered buttermilk, so I used it in the mix. Next, the only mayo I had was the herbed mayo (dill, garlic & basil) I made with corn oil, so I used it. AND... I had plenty of kefir. I really thought I should let it "cure" overnight ... didn't happen! ... I had to try it and was so pleased / tickled pink! It made a pint. It's dark outside so I couldn't forage for salad fixin's in the yard so I just tried it. I still have swiss chard in my garden so tomorrow I'll have greens with it. Oh my! This is so much better than store bought. Well, now I can skip the salad dressing aisle! Thank you 1,000 times!

    Why do you use sugar?

    • @OuttheBackDoor
      @OuttheBackDoor  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi Fred. Because that's what the homemde recipe called for. If you look at a package of store bought ranch mix, the first ingredient is maltodextrin, which is a essentially a sweetener.

    • @fredberry1342
      @fredberry1342 11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you. I did look. Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide not real sugar. Thank you for your response.

    Hi there, First Id like to thank you so much for sharing your knowledge you have no idea how much youve helped me in just a few videos. I have a few questions'. First - Buttermilk is a bit expensive. when I bake I use vinegar and milk to substitute. I dont think that would work with thi, is there any substitution I can use ? Second - You said you make your own vinegars in a different video, is there a tutorial of that anywhere ? Third Im thinking of getting that brake bleeder I saw you use in the vacuum sealing video, but Im not sure where I can find the tops that go on the can, Do you have a link ? I want to be sure they fit. Thats all for now ( sorry for asking so much) Im going to be making your bone broth this week ! Thanks again for your sage wisdom

    • @OuttheBackDoor

      Hi Miss Backwoods. When you are making sour milk for a buttermilk substitute, it should work in whatever you"re using "buttermilk" in, whether it's in baking, making pancakes, or using it for dressing. I've used sour milk (milk + vinegar) many times because our community is small and nobody carries buttermilk in the dairy section. I've found the powdered form of buttermilk in Walmart and our local grocery store but that's it. I've used that on occasion as well.
      Next, I've been uploading old videos of mine that went AWAL about a year ago, for those who recently started following the channel. I lost 176 videos and all of my community posts. Unfortunately some of the videos, including making vinegar, are not to be found on my computer either, so the next time I have apple scraps (or other fruit scraps) I'll try to remember to make a batch of vinegar and record the process. The process takes at least a month to make.
      Brake bleeder... here's a link to the one I have and it's on sale! It's 30% off right now. amzn.to/41flDAw
      I hope this helps and thank you for watching! 😊
