lol, bro, you do know that this guy went somewhere ELSE before he came to this show/store to sell his currency? "Smartest thing anyone has said on this show". That's why he wasn't able to sell his note for 20k before he got here?
True, but far more rare. Only 135 counter-signed by Brigham. Only a few of those exist today. The total supply of all kirtland notes in existence regardless of denomination or signature is under 190.
The staff is coached before they even roll the camera, it's pretty much all scripted. It's to make rick and the staff seem knowledgeable. Makes for good tv
This guy was smart. He got this thing laminated beforehand so the expert couldn’t lower the value by getting greasy fingerprints all over the actual bill
for the millionth time old currency is supposed to be handled with clean hands not gloves it damages them. This wasn’t because it was printed on ultra thin paper and would most likely break, but most bills the export handles them like he is supposed to. Stop actin like u know what ur talkin about when u know nothing
4:00 "This is a hand written copy of the sermon on the mount, signed by Jesus; in today's market it's worth a box of jelly beans." Rick: "Half a box of jelly beans is the best I can do."
For the 1% actually reading this comment, I just to wish you all the best luck 🥰 May you have a great future with all the kindness and love you deserve ❤️ i hope you have a great day and remember that you are amazing!
Rick actually offered a reasonable amount, but I'm glad the seller walked away. He should pay for it to to be officially graded, categorised and encased as this is they type of thing every numismatics/notaphily or even the Mormans would love to have especially in this awesome condition 👍
Unsure why the comment section always hates on Rick and his staff. They’re a pawn shop , off the rip you’re not getting retail, secondly like he always says, when he sells, he has to pay commissions and his other bills so to think you’d get retail when you walk in is ridiculous
These experts aren’t really fair I feel like they tell them what they asking for before hand and appraise it lower then what they really want cuz I’ve seen that bill go for 20k
Its super funny to see majority of the items on this show (showcased) is always looked at by an expert, like rick!!! Hire all your ladies and gents for crying out loud haha
Smart move by the seller. Especially after rick said he could sell it fast. He basically got it authenticated for free. Take it home store it safely and the value will only go up.
“Backed by real estate not anything tangible” real estate is the most tangible asset outside of precious metals. Not the asset I would back currency with gold has proved it’s worth as money for thousands of years
Obsolete banknotes, chances are there probably is multiple examples of different issues from your state. It's a fascinating aspect of money collecting. These notes are almost 200 years old!
I believe the problem with the notes is that they had a face value, but the buyers were supposed to make full payment for them over time, which apparently didn't happen in many cases.
I'm guessing the guy has more into this bill then what Rick offered. He was too quick to poo poo the offer and didn't try to get Rick up any higher knowing he wouldn't be able to get Rick up anywhere near what he has into it!
Expert: "first mormon bank it failed 11 months later because it was backed by real estate, wasn't backed by any metal or anything tangible". Me: Isn't real estate supposed to be tangible?
Very few people are smart enough to walk. I'd wager collectors are looking for this guy and more importantly the note. Cut out the middleman and reap a bigger reward.
Sidney Rigdon is pronounced with a soft O, like Bacon. Herbert Kimball is actually Heber Kimball. Considering how off he was on the names I really doubt he was on point on the price. Probably only researched the note on Google as he was driving over
Rick knows everything about the history of the piece and at the same time knows nothing about the value. And this some friend of his will enlighten him with more history and then a low ball price.

Does Rick know anything?
The guy who touches all the money with his bare hands...
Salve dove posso vendere dele bancnote americane veche poso mandare dele foto grazie mi serve un indirizio grazie
This guy just has the demeanor of, "I don't care about the history, just gimmie my money."
Or "they found me on the street and then gave me an old money from museum to use for an act in some TV show"
I thought so too lol
@@cohandora Not how it works

"I think I will take my chances else where"
Smartest thing anyone has said on this show.
Maybe you will give him $20,000.
He could probably sell it in Utah for like 50k for something

This guy is smart. Only 135 of them out there and so many people will see this. Advertising at its finest.
True, but far more rare. Only 135 counter-signed by Brigham. Only a few of those exist today. The total supply of all kirtland notes in existence regardless of denomination or signature is under 190.
Rick: " I know a guy who knows everything about mormon bank notes"
-angel Moroni walks in.
I love how he asks a question about the bill and then starts explaining every possible thing there is to know about the bill. 🤦♂️
It’s too test the knowledge of the customer. Too see if they actually know the product
chance french to add on, the less they know about their own item, the more they will trust the “expert”, so the expert will low ball them nore
TEST YOUR MIGHT

It's the History Channel man. They gotta edumicate the viewers too. 😊

"I'll give you a seven layer burrito but that's as far as I can go"
"You guys don't even make a 6 layer burrito!"
"Fine 7 layers... BUT THAT'S AS HIGH AS I'M GOING!!!"
This guy was smart. He got this thing laminated beforehand so the expert couldn’t lower the value by getting greasy fingerprints all over the actual bill
Haha nice, one of the few clever comments in a pawn stars clip!
It wasn’t laminated. It’s in a slip. If it was laminated , it would utterly destroy the value

Rick : i can sell it pretty quickly
Guy: Great idea , ill look elsewhere
Why not call this "BIG MONEY for OLD MONEY?"
Because this titel is out of their league
It’s not uncommon for old money to go for big money
Wow I was literally thinking 8 after hearing it's price. Fair offer from Rick
$9500...they ain't gota make ah grand slam off every costumer...that bill specifically will sell fast. In rick has the clientele for almost everything
Funny, that's my real middle and last name? Haha 😂
Not at all; Especially in Utah...

I live in Kirtland Ohio. This was pretty cool to watch.
Signature pawn stars catchphrase I don’t know anything about this let me call my guy
I can imagine that rick gave a kid 5$ for a really rare note
Rick breaking the 4th wall. 🤣😂🤣😂
This show is like wrestling. Everyone knows its fake but enjoys watching it
Yeah but what kind of adult likes watching "wrestling"?
True but there's always some history to learn on the script which I assume is the reason it's on the History Channel.

Customer: "I've got this $5,000 U.S. bill federal reserve note."
Rick: "I can give you, like, 300 bucks....I mean, I gotta get it graded, etc., etc."

Rick: best i can do is five and im taking the risk here
What a cool currency
Finally! A guy customer who didn't ask for 120% retail or only offer them a possible return of $500.
I never knew the Mormon church had their own bank at the time.
That kind of money for just a little flimsy paper. I would take the money.

Ignoto Uno depends how much the guy spent on the note to begin with. If he paid 9 grand he’s not gonna go for 8 grand. But yeh same...
