We fired 1 SLAM-ER and took out the Baghdad International Airport’s radar during the cruise missile strike to limit radar contact on the approaching first aircraft wave. Made a huge difference. Only two pilots qualified to fire the million dollar missile aboard CV-64 and the Marines took it out. If I recall that strike represented 1/3 of all the SLAM-ER missiles used in war. I lived watching the real footage!
Yep should be interesting. I suspect that as it's a subsonic missile things like a 2S19 will eat these for lunch unless they're used in low altitude mode.

I would rather use something else then Slam because I can bearly locate a Target from any weapon with camera like 65f because by the time I find them I'm almost over them or in their range

The JSOW B is the coolest one though, it's a submunition dispensor similar to the CBU-97, capable of taking out tens of MBT's within close proximity of eachother

So, you have to turn off the SLAM to use terminal guidance? Does that then mean another 2.5 minutes of warm up every time you want to use subsequent SLAMS?
is that camera on slams really that bad? its so hard to locate targets if they are in the forest for example. or to determine if the target is already hit or not. and impossible to find bunkers even if they were at shore line
when the missile gets closed to the waypoint I can see the targets on the ground but even though I press the tdc depress button and then start to guide the missile it starts falling like a rock and doesn't impact the targets, it's like it ran out of energy. Too weird since I set correctly the previous configuration in both DDIs
is it possible when typing in a "precise" waypoint as target waypoint that thin will exactly hit or you only have to do little correction due to weather perhaps ?
In the last part of the slam flight, when it was just over the target, it looks like it adjusted his trajectory. Is it automatic or it was you? How can you do that?
Hey Wags, thanks for the great video today. Just one question; did you have to fine-tune the final few seconds in the end or did the missle do all those adjustments to realign itself perfectly with that target?
Would love to see cargo planes in this game! I think it would widen your audience infinitely from attracting people from civilian flight simulators to people like me who only have a yoke to fly with. I think it would add a whole new layer to missions and planes like the C-2 Greyhound are the last piece of the puzzle for communities of Carrier Air Wings in the game. I mean, if this is already being developed you can take my money already!

What the heck, whenever you fire the slam on datalink once it starts sending data it looks like you were already uncaged, but for me it shows up caged and wont let me uncage it when I press the uncage button, when i'm using the walleye it works perfectly, I don't even think I need to press uncage or anything. Anyone know whats up I've followed this and grim reapers guides to the letter.
The AGM-84C has no Pop Attack function unlike the D. The SLAM is a Harpoon Missile equipped with the Imaging Infrared Sensor of the Maverick-D and the Walleye Datalink.
Why is the video quality from the slam so much worse in game than this tutorial? Even if I fly directly behind the thing, I often can't tell what green blobs are HUD elements for the missile, and which ones are things on the ground
The Hornet can do a pretty fair job of SEAD/DEAD the way it is now. But, once you get into properly layered defenses, not even the best of the best will be able to get in easily. Then, coordination and time (together) are the only ways to get the job done.
@@randallmacdonald4851 That is why the US developed such Aircraft. To be able to get within missile or glide bombs. To beat ship defenses you would need a massive raid to defeat them.
Let's hope the Viper will get the SLAM/ER too. Why not make a mixed Block Version? (other Modules have it done too in the Past) I know it is not always super realistic to do so but we will not see another Viper in DCS for Years maybe even longer. So having some Weapons that could have been deployed by the Airframe would be really nice!
The SLAM does not have the same warhead as a TLAM, the SLAM's is 360Kg, the TLAM is 450Kg, just looking at them side by side there's no way the TLAM's warhead could ever fit in the SLAM.

Would you need a GeForce 2080 Ti (x2) and a i9-9900K to get the max settings for this one? Hopefully, this one is still under consideration!!!

If you had used the TGP often enough, it will still be like in the video but it would have been crystal clear to you. I saw it clearly. (I use the TGP every day.)

forward of the wing leading edge and behind that is what i go by to determine which one to use.

I find it very difficult to slew it in the end. No targets destroyed so far.
Maybe turn off realistic tdc slew so you don't have to press tdc to slew.

I could not ever slew the missile. I set it up for waypoint targeting and the missile would always overshoot the target regardless.

Yeah especially the Eagle. The Viper will need stand off weapons to be competitive. Since those are also used for SEAD.
The 3 dislikes are the Iraqi coastal targets.
