  • This is a compilation of the earliest pictures we have of the Welker homestead to present. So much history, so much sweat and tears, I am forever thankful to those who have built this lifestyle for generations like myself and beyond to enjoy.

    Thank you Ted,
Farming is a great life and I forget at times how blessed I am to be a part of a family farm. Sometimes we put too much thought into producing bushels and doing our best to bring in money that we lose track of what truly is important, faith, family, and passing down the blessing of the farm to future generations.

I grew up on a wheat farm. This brought tears, just goes to show that you can take the girl from the farm but not the farm from the girl. Thanks!

Julie, it kind of brought a tear to my eye. In 1983 I was traveling across rural Montana doing a market research study with large grain farmers. I remember a guy that graduated with a high school class of 5 kids.

Amazing video, thanks for sharing. One request. Nick, I would really enjoy seeing you, Scott, and your dad sitting together narrating through the video. Telling us the history behind each picture and some other stories of your family farm history and stories of homesteading Montana. I really look forward to seeing something like that in the future. I can't get enough of the homesteading history here in Montana, it's amazing what that generation did, and your family stuck through all the hard times. God Bless

Nick this video brought tears to my eyes because it reminds me so much of my Montana family over here in North West Montana. Eureka, Montana. I grew up in a logging family. But my family is so much like yours it’s just that yours farmed and mine logged. But our values our way of life and by that I mean our outlook on life are pretty much a carbon copy of each other. We could easily swap grandfathers and fathers in great grandfathers. Even though I’m about 20 years older than you it doesn’t matter our Montana families are so much alike.

Yes Berry! We farm around the northern half of Shelby and we are about 100 miles from Havre. We take a lot of pride and joy in our Buds and are majorly upgrading one of the first Buds every produced to farm with again. Hopefully it'll be ready by next year. I'll have a video uploaded of it when it is finished.

It’s a shame the world today is losing farmers not only are you loosing food but losing precious memories. I want to farm so bad I’m in south west Wisconsin but we don’t have the money or land. Thank welters when I eat supper at night I think about all the time and effort into making it. Farmers are selfless. Thanks to all the farmers out there! God bless

Really like that 100 year tribute to see how far as a family & a community has come in a 100 years.
So you switched out the Deeres for Case IH. Up here in this neck of the woods there is everything. To each his own & what works. My uncle had in desperation a Deere flex (900 series) on a 1680 IH that got some heads turning. It worked with what he had. Any way nice to see you all working together as a family. I live straight north across the border where m6 grand father can to help his aunt & her husband break land when there was very few settlers in these parts, 1911

very cool showing the appreciation you have for the generation that came before you getting your operation where it is today. It's nice to see a family farm succeed over the course of 100 years without it being sold after deaths or the 80's crisis or extreme droughts in wheat country. Keep up the tradition, we are the 1% to feed the world. Good luck and very inspirational.

That's a great video you have made for your family Legacy.. I'm a first generation farmer just turned 40 in October. We live in Ks and have a son that's 14 starting to farm on his own using my equipment and hope someday he'll take over our operation. Started on my own in 96 and still hard at it.. Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Also thanks for the reply this morning on the acres you farm that's awesome.

Thanks Keenan! That is a rare thing to be a first generation farmer! Not many around here can say that. You're doing something I can never say I've done and that's starting off without a family farm to begin with. Hopefully your son will pick it up and continue a legacy. There are a lot of forces working against generational businesses but it isn't impossible.
