    Here in Illinois we have rough winters too. It's so nice to find someone else who does nice things for the little ones. We are always donating coats, gently used boots. We sew a purple or pink thread thru a hood and i have seen a few kiddos wearing them as we have donated them. Warms my heart they are warm for the season. We never say anything to them just a gently reminder to those around us, that we shouldn't take what we have for granted.

    I am a newbie to Cross Stitch and Aida is what I have chosen to learn on. I am in Southern MI. you are a brave soul to live in the UP. I can't wait to watch more of your videos. I quilt as well. I have a knitting machine so I can make hats, mittens, and possibly scarfs for children as well. I am so happy to have found your videos.

    Just found you today while stitching and watching Flosstube! I'm in Rhode Island and we're having a coastal snow storm , 5-10" predicted ! Ugh I don't really like snow, cold weather so cozy under my fleece blanket and stitching on Aida !! Yes I'm an Aida girl too. Started cross stitching in South Carolina in the 80's then took up quilting in 1993 and just got back into cross stitching in March during the shutdown! I'm still stitching and not much quilting at present ! Loved your video and I'm also a monogamous stitcher as well ! Thank you for doing Flosstube! ❤️❤️❤️

    Welcome to Flosstube. We are "vintage" both in our tastes and age! We lived in the UP for over 7 years....first in AuTrain/Munising area, then in L'Anse on the Keweenaw Bay. We miss our UP home like a heartache. We now live downstate Michigan very close to the Indiana border. We are waiting for spring so we can make a trip back to the UP to see all our friends. Your stitching choices are so much like mine it is amazing. Hubby and I both enjoyed your video...Thank you for sharing~ Stay warm~

    Enjoyed your first video. It's heartwarming to see someone doing something they love,knitting, and giving to those in need. I stitch mostly on 40ct linen but there was a time I made many beautiful things on Aida. They make some really nice Aida now which has grabbed my interest,so that may be in my future . I'm also a monogamous stitcher .I don't know how people handle having 19 things going at once, I'd be crazy. Look forward to seeing your quilting as I do some of that too.

    Hello from Detroit 😎 I cross stitch, crochet, knit, and a lot of other stuff. You did great on your first video! I also love the 80'-90's design's on aida. It's what I learned on and still love to do. I'm not a fabric or floss (or yarn) "snob" and it's refreshing to see a floss tuber who isn't promoting all the latest trends or expensive materials that are out of reach budget wise for a lot of regular crafters. I subscribed, looking forward to your next vid ☺

    Hi Artie, I’m not a big watcher of flosstube. Honestly, I have other things to do than listen to others drama in their lives. Having said that, I did enjoy yours, your voice isn’t over the top obnoxious, you don’t rattle on about something foreve, that has nothing to do with stitching, you stay on subject, pleasantly say what you have to say & you’re done. You were in & out in about 30 minutes & I appreciate that! I enjoyed your field trip to the Stitching Bee, I’m in La Crosse, WI, area, so I have used them as a LNS, at times. I haven’t been there yet, it would be a weekend trip for us, and that’s not happening until winter goes away! Back to your first video...many years ago, I was spitting words out under my breath, I’d been repeatedly making the exact same mistake, in my needlework a number of times. A very dear friend was within earshot, playing with our infant, and overheard me. What she said to me, I’ve carried with me for over 30 years, and hold it near in my heart. What she said, and she was a crafter, too, and she said to me, “never mind your mistakes”. I’m thinking, WHAT! But the rest of it makes sense. She said she’d been told, very young, that mistakes or the “oops”, are our way of showing God that we are not his equal, that we are mere man, and are less than he is, we are human and we do fumble once in awhile. I’ll never forget that. So now, I leave a mistake or 2 in my pieces. I may not know I’m leaving them, most of the time, and if there aren’t any, well than, there aren’t any. So, don’t worry about Mr. Frog, unless he’s in a place you can’t ignore, just work those little things in and keep on moving. It’s hard at first, especially when you catch the right away. But you’ll get the hang of it. You’ve probably seen me running around the groups trying to pick up & dust off the stitchers that have buried themselves in dirt because they made a stupid mistake. I tell them all, ‘it just means your not Gods equal’, and you're adding your own personality to your piece. So, all in all, build up your work, don’t down play them because you’ve added your special touch! I enjoyed listening to you! Who knows, being in somewhat close proximity, maybe we’ll run into one another sometime. Take care, be safe out here, stay warm and most of all happy stitching! Lynn

      Thank you for all the kind words. My life is pretty boring. So no drama here. Just stitching and a few funny stories. 😄 I'm pretty good with my mistakes. I know they are there. But better done than perfect.

    • @lynnruss4823
      @lynnruss4823 3 роки тому

      @@thevintagestitcher2022 I’ll admit, I ramble when I write! 😂 I like your saying, “better done than perfect”! Years ago I put a project away cause I couldn’t find the mistake. Took it out about 10 years later & was bound & determined to finish it, at any cost! So I worked at it, blended things in & got it done-never to find the mistake. Once I got the FFO back, I had a quilt finish around it, right there, in front of my face was the mistake!!! Couldn’t believe it! It was meant to be! On a side note, it was one of Stoney Creeks designs of the “Our Father”! Take care. It’s been lovely chattingwith you! Lynn

    I am so glad I found you! I looked for "vintage cross stitch" because I find myself drawn to vintage patterns rather than the new things I see here on UA-cam just because I like old stuff. I am just beginning cross stitch and also like aida because I like the tidiness of those little boxes and have found myself feeling overwhelmed when flossers talk about even weave and linen when I'm just learning. Thanks!

    I too only work on Aida and nothing smaller than 16 ct. Every flosstube I watch they are stitching on all sorts of fabric that I never heard of. Also cannot figure out how they see where to stitch. I love the look of the tiny stitches, but I cannot do it. I too usually only have two projects going in cross stitch. If I start working on something it’s because I either need it for a gift, or it’s something I want to decorate with. Why have so many projects and never finish anything. I do not buy kits either. First I think they are overpriced, especially when they are using the expensive floss. I am a DMC person. Will definitely keep watching your channel.

    Enjoyed your video! I like to think I am a sane stitcher as well, especially as I get older, 1-3 projects at a time suits me fine. I've been stitching since I was a teenager in the 70s, then stopped in the 90s to pursue other crafts and now have recently started again and pulled out all that 80s and 90s stash, so I better like those things because that's what I have, lol! The only "vintage" patterns I have that I really don't think I can update are all the geese and teddy bears, no longer my taste! But thankfully I have lots of samplers and 20+ year old floss to keep me busy. Your charity work is very touching, bless you! Be kind, spread love and find peace, that beautiful! I haven't been since August. My husband has done the trips to get him and take him back for breaks so far this school year. Loved this video! I’d like to know how you decide alternate colors for your cross stitch projects. I am just coming back to cross stitch after about 30 years and left off when my kids were little so this is a whole new world of design aside from stitching cute little teddy bears. Thank you for your knitting for the children in your area. Shows you have a generous and sincere heart❣️

    Great job! We have much in common! Besides stitching, I also quilt and knit, as well as crochet and weave. I live in lower Michigan but I lived in the UP for 6 years, in Newberry, so I understand the cold and snow! If you have been to a quilt retreat in Garden, we may have even met! Unlike you, I am not monogamous in any of my crafts. I have many WIPs and UFOs in stitching, quilting and knitting. I love your Susan Ache project and immediately downloaded it. I stopped doing cross stitch probably 20 years ago and also fell into that flosstube rabbit hole.. lol I recently just started getting new supplies as I am a retired teacher and let my students stitch in free time. They checked out charts like books. I didn't always get them back and that's ok I look forward to your quilting vids I also quilt and am self youtube taught... Hello ! and welcome to Flosstube. I live in Perry Township, between Lansing and Flint here in Michigan. I too love the primitive, vintage look. Love your projects so far. I also make hats, mittens and scarves but donate them to the homeless shelter. These I do while watching TV. I buy my yarn when on sale/clearance or at garage sales in the summer and make mine out of funky color combos. Warm is warm. My husband's people are from Water's Meet in the U.P. and he went to Northern U. Happy to connect with someone up there. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Stay safe, warm and happy stitching !

    Your channel was such a great find, guess I'll have to thank the UA-cam algorithm for that, hahah! Beautiful projects, thank you for showing them and I love your relaxed approach to crafting - will be fun to see you work on some of those vintage patterns, too! I only cross stitch these days, but I have a history with knitting as well, going back all the way to my teens in the 80s. But I am NOT a fast stitcher so that particular craft takes up a giant piece of my free time - it's too much fun! 😁 Stay warm up there in Michigan! I'm from Finland so it's been freezing here, as well, but I don't mind, it's amazing to have a proper, snowy winter again after last year's horridness of rain and darkness for five months straight...!

    Yay - another Yooper stitcher! Born and raised Yooper here - born in Newberry, lived in the Soo, went to school at NMU and my parents had a summer cabin near Baraga. Who else would recognize those tiny towns?? I'm in Ohio now, near family, and happened to see your new thumbnail on UA-cam come up. Didn't know the pictures of your hands would be doing that "lower pensinsula looks like a mitten" gesture, along with the crooked fingers of your other hand trying to look like the U.P. Thanks for the laugh. I admire your focused stitching - I've just come back to stitching after a few years away taking care of my elderly parents, so I have more than a few in some stage of progress. Welcometo UA-cam - I look forward to hearing some of your Yooper stories!
