When I first saw this in High school, Ted Neelys rendition made me cry😢, but Dan's.....Dan's rendition ripped my heart out, stomped on it, before slamming it back into my chest! He's a natural thespian as well as a powerhouse of a vocalist! Simply the best imo❤

We can only imagine Jesus's moment of doubt, what he felt knowing what was coming and Dan's version of this song brings it to life beautifully

Brilliant dramatic and powerful performance from Dan, filled with such emotion which gets me every time. A phenomenal singer! Nessun Dorma is beautiful as well as his covers of the Phantom of the Opera. Thank you for your reaction,

I think I read that he also studied under a vocal coach who specialized in the techniques involved in healthy metal singing. I'm no expert, about as far as you can get from it, but, even when he was using quite a bit of vocal fry, he looked very relaxed. I was watching his throat and I couldn't see any strain, which (maybe?) meant that he was using his false cords effectively. Whatever his technique was, that was a very powerful performance from a singer who was feeling what he sang.

Indeed, he had singing classes with Ken Tamplin, a great vocal coach. I’ve also been observing his neck and we see no strain even in the highest notes. His vocal training and vocal capacity is just impressive.

His training started when he was quite young. From what I've heard, his late father was a musician or singer (or both) and his mother was a semi-professional opera singer. His range is just incredible and it's very obvious from this performance that he has some serious acting chops. I've watched his original video and multiple reactions to this rendition of Gethsemane and I get goosebumps every single time. His talent deserves ten times the exposure, but he's put out some posts on Facebook and his UA-cam channel's community tab that are intriguing. It sounds like he has an album coming out this year. I'm certainly looking forward to it! 😊

This was the scene where he was praying in the garden and asking if there was another way because he knew what was going to happen to him

Thank you for your reaction. Some Christians object to this song and the rock opera it comes from as well due to its lack of adherence to Biblical principles. I don't expect it to take the place of Scripture. I see it as a piece of art that attempts to portray Our Lord's anguish at what he knew was coming and price that was being paid. Dan's performance stands with the greatest who did this piece.

Teresa, I couldn't stand this song until... I heard & watched Dan sing it. What a powerful performance!!
For me, the words were emotionally true, but the worst pain of all to Him stemmed from his students not obeying his request to pray. Instead they slept. I can't imagine the despair He must have endured. The brutality at the cross probably came in 2nd to that, yet the play production skipped over those moments of despair, frustration, & yes, even betrayal, by those who loved Him & that He loved. Even today we're supposed to be praying for the lost souls so that Jesus doesn't have to fulfill the Burn Butcher(s) Burn part of burning all His memories of those who refused to listen. That must be grieving Him overwhelmingly, despite knowing what has to take place. Mankind is too busy arguing to pray for the salvation of souls so Jeshua doesn't have to put his foot down once & for all.

This song shows the human side of Christ's life, and the emotions he had. He showed those emotions at the temple when he destroyed the booths.

Although not biblical, it's still an amazing song sung beautifully by Dan. He becomes the part. Dan puts his heart into everything he covers. He never sings a song. He feels each and every one. In this one, he's even more theatrical. Magnificent!!! Bravo, Dan!!! (God bless you, sister in Christ!)

Dan's performance is a masterpiece. Now that you have taken in this performance leading up to the crucifixion, please watch his rendition of Handel's Hallelujah where the resurrection is celebrated with Dan as the entire choir. Another masterpiece. I look forward to your upcoming Dan Vasc reactions.

Dan does like to act out his songs to an extent....he is a thespian at heart. He was asked once when will he feel like he has reached his peak and he said that vocally he did it several years ago - metal music is very powerful and physical - yet he doesn't know about emoting - says at times he feels like he is too emotive. Personally I love that he puts everything into each song.

  • @umarae27

I agree. He knew why. And at the wedding in Canaan He realized when-ish (Wine miracle). I love and admire Dan's singing & emotional performance. But, I still, after all these years, can't stand the song itself.
Great review, btw!! You, like me, were disturbed, on one hand, while totally admiring the artist on the other. Complexities arent much fun.
Dan didnt write this song, he performed it in regards to how it was composed on Broadway.
Please, please, do yourself a huge favor & play Dan's other great songs such as Handel's Hallelujah where he's the entire choir! Yes, really. And Adeste Fideles where he himself is lead and 60 of his selves are synced for his back up choir, off screen. Both are powerful. Oh! And his Angels We Have Heard On High, so powerful too. You owe yourself a good lift, and Dan excels at lifting.

This is my new favorite rendition of this song! He does an absolutely incredible vocal, passionate, beautiful job! Remember that this was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice as in Phantom of the Opera! Dan adds outstanding passion and theatrical essence! 🎶🫶🏻🧔🏻‍♀️🫡

Dan is just performing the song, it doesn’t mean any of the lyrics is true, we need to analyze how he delivers it and it was superb, flawless and deeply enough to make us feel the pain the song talks about. Another Dan’s epic cover. Thanks for the reaction.

You said Gethsemane perfectly. The one man chorus is Handel's Hallelujah, but there are several others in which he loops and layers multiple roles. I am a Superfan of this song, and have seen maybe 50 versions, and without question this is the best combination of Passion and ability. The anquish in the garden is a gospel story that fits between the Last Supper and the arrest . There are stories that Jesus was so overwrought he sweated blood. The play is not about his Godhood, it is about his HUMANITY and you get every bit of that from Dan's performance of bargaining with his Father.

The bible clearly states that in the garde of Gethsemane Jesus prayed that the cup of Poison be stayed from his lips. He prayed so much He actually sweat blood. So i can imagine this being His thoughts and fears

That song get stuck in you. What we know was that Jesus in Gethsemane said to God - if it is possible, take it away from me.
But we can just emagine How he would feel. He was a man and gods son. I have never seen Jesus Christ superstar cause I don’t like the idea behind it - but se Dan sing this song makes Jesus human and gives me more thanksfulness for all he went thrue. If we would want to see Jesus as he was in Gethsemane Dan did a brilliant job.
    Love to you from Norway❤🇳🇴🇳🇴❤
You said once that people don’t see your emphaty in your face - I will just tell you, your eyes shows it. I have the same «problem» people don’t see it in my face, but if they bother look in my eyes - it’s all there.

Just saw this. Bugs me when folks apply modern theology, which didn't exist then, to when this happened. It's a faithful son in distress and pain having a huge fight with his father. We who have children have seen them when our sons don't listen to reason. It's a man who's rightly so scared he sweat blood. That's one of the most extreme responses to stress a human can experience. And a point at which reason is is overtaken by the urge to flee. Jesus is fully God and fully human and therefore this is the appropriate human response to a horrible fate. Just because he knew why doesn't mean he wanted to. If God had forced him it's not a true sacrifice. The Father loves us and Jesus loved his father. What a wondrous sacrifice made based on the love between father and son. That's the dynamic which got us to Easter.

Jesus Christ Superstar was not really written from a Christian point of view. It was more from an agnostic point of view. And it left the viewer to decide who He really was and if anything actually happened after His death. Just FYI. The entire Broadway musical is on UA-cam. It's a classic everyone should see at least once just for the music alone! JMO

Please also react to my other favorite Dimash Kudaebergen. He is a Kazakh singer classically trained with a 7 octave range. Sings in more than 8 languages and plays 7 instruments. If you haven't heard him yet you can start with his "love is like a dream". Choose his official video for the best result.
