Being the tank isn't about absorbing damage, it's about being the center of attention.
That’s why dps who know how to focus healers first are so annoying on the lower ranks
center of attention? alr im perma flanking
he should honestly do more stuff like this, its really helpful ngl, and as someone who wants to be better and learn which role is right for me, this really does the job, i actually didnt know anything about this whole 'space' thing i thought as a tank you would just 'oh yeah frontline lets go guys' but theres more to it.
Yeah, every pro and ex-pro will say space is everything. And each tank can create space a little differently. Rein's is straight forward, you want to pressure their front line away. They start collapsing then you and everyone else can start getting picks. Dive tanks are more so distracting the enemy and pressuring their backline, but not TOO much where you die when you get greedy going for picks all the time instead of going to the front sometimes.
Space just makes your teammates position better. Tanking is not about protecting your team with barriers, while it is part of it and you can save people, it's often more important to ENABLE your team to do better by making space for them to kill and support.
Well at the end if the day it is "yeah frontline let's go guys" as you are creating space that way
@@filipgasic2642 Well, it depends how you are pressuring (or not pressuring) the enemy team in the frontline to give your team a better chance. Just being somewhere near the front line as a tank doesn't mean you're automatically creating effective space for your team to capitalize on.
If you’re really serious about improving and learning I’d recommend watching a10, spilo, and NatterOW
the very first time i ever saw xqc was him in a UA-cam video teaching how to juggle on winston way way way before he was a proper streamer
Why is this guy teaching anything, what does he know about overwatch 2. He's acting like he's a former pro player or something.
lil bro thinks hes xQcOW
he thinks OW 1 is anything like OW 2. Rookie mistake.

Hi guys my name is xqc im the current tank for team denial...
To sum up what he’s saying, tanks, especially shield tanks (main tanks), are gonna perform the best when their priority is on making space for their team, not going for picks.
By exploiting your massive health pool and shield you can create enough space to threaten the enemy’s defensive position and force them to retreat or split their fire.
His point about winston in the firing range is especially important, as winston works best as a disruptor when he jumps into or behind an enemy line to separate the tank from their supports.

Tips for OW2 tank players:
1) Play Zarya
2)That’s it
winston counters
@@Slaybitties- not really. Winston is good vs her cause he doesn't feed as much charge, but he loses outright in damage and presence if she melts him because your team feeds the charge instead.
Honestly zarya is just an issue cause without proper comms and knowledge, she STAYS at 100 charge in her current form cause of ignorance.
Previous version of her was far more balanced and took a LOT more thought and skill. Now she is mindless as fuck.
@@Am4t3r4su I main zarya and Winston does counter her hard, I like using her as a tank not bc she’s broken although that helps TONS LOL. her shields help out your team massively.
@@g2h402 Well she is getting nerfed soon BECAUSE she is a bit too strong.
and I honestly don't see winston as a hard counter at all. More of a soft counter if you have a coherent team and the enemy isn't pocketing her.
Definitely not HARD counter. Mostly soft overall.
Reinhardt counters
Diving tanks in lower elo feels like the tanks just trade places and try to 1v4 unless you're stacking with comms
Yea playing tank solo is complete despair
@@chocodam8640 I get it's probably an elo thing but as someone who didn't play OW at the end placing high isn't really realistic. Q'ing without a DPS feels pretty harsh down low
The worst part about playing tank in low elo is you get blamed if anyone dies because your dps dont use the space you made and instead just rush 3 men and die because they got tunnel vision.
@@mouldywolf6626 Just to get half the dmg of the tank and say gg tank diff
@@nxetr I’m a dps player but tbh most of the time it’s my other dps severely underperforming like one game I had 26 elims 4 deaths with 13k damage and my other dps had 6 kills 3k damage he literally was out damaged by a lucio 💀
As a new player ive watched a couple of ow guide vids, but honestly this random x clip is prob one of the best. It might be basic knowledge for some, but i like that he tries to explain in detail and theres no bs. X should do this more
xqc= ex over watch pro
vs
average clickbait youtube content creator
Check Coach Mills, those videos add way more value per minute IMO
Sadly for most this isnt basic knowledge
If you check out A10’s video of his unranked to GM, the first game he does after he explains his concepts and applies them ingame is so flawless in helping understand. It is part of why zarya is so strong.
He exploits zarya’s double bubble to be incredibly threatening to the enemy team. First by walking on an off angle to the team and not being targeted at all until they realize he is going to kill their back line, and his double bubble allows him to have 400 additional HP to do whatever he wants. Having double bubble allows him to take a very aggressive corner or positioning and safely back out if he needs to, which can easily force the enemy team to back up.
this guy knows how to... (help me escape)
I think what he’s trying to say is, (if anyone doesn’t understand him), to dive as a tank, or go as far into the enemy, the payload, objective, the area as possible, you’re going to take a lot of damage but that is why your hp is designed to be triple that of the other roles. The whole purpose of it is to create as much space and room for your team as possible or create openings for them to get picks, while the enemies are busy dealing with you wreaking havoc on them. Being as annoying as possible is what I find to be the tanks’ main role, in my own experience.
TLDR : (you’re creating space and openings, and becoming a sort of bait, a sponge for damage and utility.)
Thats the point of the tanks he played others like roadhog are more dps same with the new one
Then it all goes to shit if you're dps can't kill anyone in the first place
@@xxx_epic_sniper_xxx2.021 not really, same thing if roadhog hooks them from behind

WHY ARE YOU SO ANGRY?
I wish this type of content was more popular with big streamers, everyones just react boi's now, seeing XQC rock shit in OW or Destiny play an RTS is a rare occurance
One way for him to put the part he's describing at the end is:
As a tank, even if you aren't a MAJOR threat in the space you are taking, you are enough of a threat that they can't just competely ignore you; otherwise you may get a pick or two without them fighting back much.
This basically means when you take space, you are threatening the enemy team with "if you don't kill me now, you're going to lose this area as my team rotates into this space behind/beside me.
No joke i applied this to my silver tank games and the past 10 games have been literal stomps where the enemy didn't even get to play the game, thank you mr cow
Oh and by the way i classic OW2 fashion, i stomped the 10 games in a row and got demoted from silver 4 to bronze 3
@@neek01 you did not win 10 games in a row and demote like that
@@neek01 every role has its own rank I think. Like if I get to plat mostly playing dps heros, then if I play tank heros for the next 7 wins, I'll start from lower tiers. That's what happened to me.
i think this is really helpful especially considering how people’s perception of how to play tank has shifted with the tank buffs and team comp changes. fact is even if you are top fragging as rien you still have to do your job as a tank and make space or you will lose
I can agree, in OW(2) the best tactic is becoming an annoyance without getting killed for the longest time
On top of this, if you can get 2 enemies to look at you and you can stall, it makes it a 4v3 for your team.
you can do 0 damage as tank and still win as he said but your teammates still gonna talk shit cuz they dont understand
To be fair you should still be doing a lot of damage- the kits in OW2 for tanks make it so that they can dish a lot of damage whilst also making space.
Most Zaryas, orisas and dvas in games right now have more damage than the dps
@@dhamin8168 you’re wrong.
@@ozylocz4078 Unless it’s a push map where the tanks aren’t constantly brawling, no I’m not.
The tanks are usually always doing more dmg than the dps and this has been the case for me from diamond all the way till GM. Only exception is on push maps or if a dps is pocketed all game.
It is also very true in all these streamers games.
So yes actually, if you’re doing a good job as a tank you should at least be doing as much dmg as a dps. There is no tank player in the game that can get away with just making loads of space without doing a lot of dmg too
Yeh, was a dps main for years and swapped to tank for ow2, orisa, and literally doubling my dps in games as a tank from what I struggled to hit on souj or s76 etc.
this is the fundamental of what tanks do, but they achieve this in different ways.
they go in to widen the angle of attack while also trying to survive, where this becomes interesting is how each tank gameplan is different and how they go through a choke.
Wow this guy is so good at Overwatch he should go pro

most original overwatch comment
reminds me of that one video where he explained how to punch before landing as Winston
simply said : overwhelm the enemy, they see a big boy 700 hp running at them while theyre getting attacked from another angle, they are forced to retreat or they die
He actually makes a lot of sense here, I'm a support lucio only player and a lot of the times on attacking for payload objectives sometimes when the defence is digged in getting aroudn them with lucios kit and getting and captruing the objective so it forces them to back peddal gives your team a massive window to pressure them as their having to focus on the polar oppisite sides of their vision.
This is obvious in hindsight but i never thought of restricting opponents information (eg. in order to look at you they have to look AWAY from your team and forcing that choice upon them) as a component of space creation. I always just simply thought of space as "if they attack me they arent attacking my team" - which is true, but there are so many other things you can accomplish *while* you do that.
To sum it up, the goal of a tank is to make the enemy players look away from your team, and at you, letting your team walk in and use the space you just created
To simplify what space is; it's areas of the map where there arent bullets flying towards you that get you close or in a better position to shoot them
His theory is a lot easier to see in practice if your playing doomfist, he jumps in causes a bunch of chaos let’s the team push get pick and you can just jump out if you’re low
yep, sadly doomfist is kinda dogshit compare to the other tanks
My favorite movements where I felt most chad was when I predict what an enemy tank would do (like a hook or shatter) before they even do it and I block it with rein shield
I hope this helps new tanks in OW2 because they really need to step up and stop being afraid of pushing, rely more on your support, they aren't their for nothing, make space for the team to breath rather then suffocate in 1 spot.
It's kinda hard to trust my support who duoq with 1 of my dps and only follows him and my other support picks moira and acts as a dps (and actually deals more dmg than my 2 dps together). It happens more often than you think.
@@Axymoon LMAO so true, I play reinhardt solo all the time and you can be certain the mercy pharah duo is always in the air killing the enemy team who doesn't have a hit scan and yet still being pocketed by the mercy kek
@@Axymoon LMAO this is so true, its why I went for DPS first to rank itself up and got Silver 2. Though right now I'll try to do it even more and make more space for the team so long as I don't get too far in the enemy lines as I notice that the support that I usually queue with won't go too far from the group. Which is understandable.
Kinda hard to do that with a moira spamming his right click acting like a DPS and your other healer pocketing your other DPS who goes way too hard to flank enemies just to get a pick only to die 5 seconds in peeposad
tbh hard to do that when most tanks in my game either don't push whatsoever, or push so far forward there's literally nothing i can do to assist them because as soon as i push as much as them i not only am super far from the rest of the team but my shit health means i die faster lmao. most of the time though, tanks in my games literally are cowards who would rather let damage and healers push up rather than them
Ive played zarya for a long time and even hit masters with her, but it never really occurred to me to think of tank this way.
Ive understood to make space and play aggressively at the right moments but i felt like i never really knew what it truly meant to create space until this video and thats why i struggle to play main tanks. It was really helpful.

actually really helpful
He described crossfire, distracting the enemies so his team can overwhelm them over time.
It's actually basic swat tatics, as well. If you learn angles things go easy.
It’s all psychological is so true! When I play Zara it is SO EASY to trick players into thinking I will use bubble but in the end they just don’t shoot me? Until I use it when they shoot the other guy instantly, then save me cuz I had both. It’s a lot of mind games
When my scared tank won't push up, as support i either damage boost, speed boost, or nano them. They usually get the idea. But as dps i have found myself front lining as McCree when the opportunity to push arises but the tank wont move.
The main thing about tank is being the one to focus on

this is like old sensei like the guy in ninjago with the white beard and hat
Cool stuff ! Now if the music wasnt as loud as him talking it would be even better !
this is how i explain it to my friends that want to play tank ass a former t500 off tank. You want to be the most annoying a hole in the game, your impact comes from poking and prodding and being as much in their face as your healthpool allows unless peel is required. your main focus in the game is to acquire ult charge and your second focus is to deny them the space while simultaneously gaining that space for your team. There's obviously more to it but if you want a base to build off there it is.
He should explain when to mele as winston
wow he spittin
all hes saying is annoy them and attack them at different angles while not being so far away to not receive supports from your team
I feel like I understand this but it’s hard explaining when I’m creating space why they should push in when I do so
i swear half his chat have no idea hes actually overwatch pro
I have now moved from bronze 5 to brown 3 thank you XQC!
The way he explains is crazy but somehow it's making sense to me
people always say oh make space make space, well this is actually a good basic explanation of that!
XQC'S tone slightly sounds like his old "hi my name is xqc im the current tank for Team Denial" not the sound of his voice but his tone for sure XD
Don’t get me wrong I do understand what he’s saying but can’t most of these be performed by DPS too? Like in the train example if he gets the pick the DPS that got the pick could also go back and try to get another pick from the guy respawning and still create space
His advice is solid. Now a tank player needs a team that will follow up after creating space :D
Exactly. I swear, when I play tank, I make the space, distract the enemy for 30+ seconds, and when I finally die, there still isn't a single other teammate pushing with me. (And this is AFTER we all grouped up, so it's not like I went in alone or they got picked off or something.) Meanwhile, when I DON'T play tank, our tank tries to 1v5 the entire enemy team and mash buttons until he's murdered, because he ignores the "group up!" spam pings. Every role is super important, but I feel like a bad tank is a guaranteed loss in this version of OW2.
S1 tank here, I hope this video really helps me out grinding.
BRING BACK VOD REVIEW
Jokes on you, mercy mains have to have God like spacial awareness of both enemy team and the location of all friendlies. If they don't heal ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE...flamed. If they get picked by the enemy...FLAMED. So while 1 person is on convoy, 2 people are up front pushing into the enemy team, while a dps/assasin flanks for a pick. In this situation you must focus the second support so they don't get picked, then your dps/assain just failed their pick and is about to die, dodge the enemy team and heal them or res them, dodge the enemy again and get back to the tank. Stay behind tank, watch your rear, a Reaper is targeting your ashe on payload better fall back and res/heal her. Btw while you healed her your secondary support got picked, and the tank is dying. The dps assasin goes in for a pick and dies. At this point the enemy team walks past the tank and kills you. The end.
Can confirm as a Mercy main.

There is a saying in chess a threat is more important then an execution, i think you can use a lot of chess strategies in this game as well in chess is also important controling more space then your oponnent or playing whit initiative, and sometimes is more wise to retreat to give yourself more time to recover end then ATTACK whit more power
A threat?

Is it just me everyone plays only Zarya and orisa
And then ur healers die trying to get to u
what I hate the most in OW2 rn is probably the scoreboard since all the tanks and healers are chasing fuckn damage numbers while letting the dps die. It is not generating damage, it is just stealing damage from the dps. If you have an enemy dps fight you as dps and a moira in your team, in 9 out of 10 cases the moira will attack the enemy instead of healing you, which often can end in a trade.
I would be better if the scoreboard wasn't shown until end of games or not at all
GIGACHAD bap users with high damage and heals
@@Liasos88 I like it because it's an honest reflection of everyones current performance.
It can create toxicity, but it also shows weaknesses in a team. If your tank is literally Rein and he is pushing 9 k damage and your soldier only has maybe 2.5 K damage.. Wtf is he doing? It's his JOB to do damage. If he is being out DPS'd by the MELEE TANK by that much? Then we know who the issue is and can MAYBE address that.
It is kind of the same for a healer vs DPS. Moira is the glaring factor in most arguments because a lot tend to deal quite a lot of damage throughout the game usually and that puts an odd contrast on her healing VS damage ratio.
If you are being outdone by a healer tho by a rather large margin.. Blaming them for not being healed isn't gonna fix the issue. Try COMMUNICATING instead of BITCHING to your supports. Or get good at where those health packs are and do what you gotta do.
You catch more cooperation with courtesy then whining and pointing fingers.
@@Am4t3r4su
Yeah that's true. The stats do say a lot about if people are doing their jobs or not, if your team is struggling and you check the scoreboard you might see something there and you can ask a teammate to switch hero or just stick with the team better.
But sometimes the stats lie. I've seen summit1g play in a 5 stack and they are not the greatest at OW. One time they got like 30k more damage than the other team in a game and still lost and they had absolutely no clue as to why. Therefore it's possible to have much worse stats and still win, if you know how to play the game right.
I do agree with you however and have changed my mind about wanting the scoreboard to be hidden.
@@Liasos88 it's obvious tho why they lost. Damage =/= doing good.
You can win a game without BARELY breaking 3 k damage to 5 k damage.
You can spray all day and get 15 k damage.. but if that damage doesn't actually succeed in getting ANY kills or picks against the enemy team.. What's the point then?
Damage isn't the deciding factor here. Proper targets and picks during teamfights are the deciding factor.
Taking down the enemy teams tank feels great! Until you realize he managed to take out a healer and a DPS for his death leaving your team at a massive disadvantage still.
Proper target priority and MEANINGFUL damage and kills are what win the game.

He must have done it for a $500 dono lmao
it's almost like he is a pro or something 🤔
The first point he makes is basically people only have so much attention they can give, If you create space for your team to come in you will help your team a lot
if you want actual tips how to play tank watch cloudy he is easily the most skilled tank player with the best understanding of space genuinely nobody else even is comparable to him on rein he was like top 3 recently in eu which is the highest ranked server rn and he is the only rein player in top 10, he understands the value of tank the most out of everybody he teaches how dying doesnt mean losing and getting kills doesnt mean winning there is way more to this game
