The NEW Northumberland Line is OPEN!

- 60 years after the Beeching Cuts, a historic day for Northumberland has arrived, with two new stations- Ashington and Seaton Delaval- officially opening.
So, as per tradition, we woke up before sunrise to catch the very first passenger service between station 2585 and 2586.

Still can't believe how windy it was there!
Great video Riku, this line is undoubtedly a good thing that's badly needed, though it would be nice if the stations had a few more facilities!
That’s a unique pronunciation of Delaval. Thank you for taking time to check out Northumberland. Northumberland Park exchange has so much potential. Fingers crossed.
Great quality video, you deserve more subscribers! Keep it up :)
Great vlog Riku it’s great to see the Northumberland Line open and serving the community.
Brilliant video Riku, it was extremely windy that day! But even know the stations are okay, the line should be a success
Always nice when an old line gets reopened, it can connect people together like it did 60 years ago. Nice video!
Best video covering the line reopening I've seen so far. Love how it covers more than just getting on and off the train like some others might do!
I saw you at the station at an ungodly hour, went home for a bit, then came back to join the crowd on the first train! What an exciting trip it was!
indeed it was!
Thanks!
No problem 😉 I love my ‘job’
It was lovely to meet you today! This was a fantastic watch. And it was definitely worth the "windy" start
I absolutely agree 👍 what a great opening!
Thanks for the updates. Happy Christmas and good luck for 2025.
Brilliant video as always Riku!
Brilliant video very informative
Great video! It was nice see you at Seaton Delaval!
Wonderful, a nice start, I hope that we see many more closed lines reinstated, it is the way ahead.
Great video! I was on the first train fron Ashington on Sunday......Had Breakfast in Newcastle and was back home in Amble by noon.....Hopefully people use this line and look after the stations!
Really good video this, we were on the first train out of ashington as well, you can just see my dad's arm when you're talking about the pronunciation of Seaton Delaval...glad you enjoyed your day :)
HI just subbed you, Hi I'm Joe Originally from Newcastle but live in Bedlington Station now great footage I live right next to the station and watch the works that's going on, as far as I know Bedlington Station will not open till the end of next year, Keep up the great footage & thanks for sharing 👍🏻 ❤️
I just filmed Bedlington station this morning, the station construction is slowly progressing. I can confirm that it will be the penultimate station to open on the line. Thanks for subscribing!
I live on the line and its a welcome sight going on it today for the first time
Great video Riku! In my opinion it makes the rail network much better with the Northumberland line now open. You should do a video of the Transwilts service by GWR Westbury to Swindon at some point.
I was on the line today! Got the first train out of Newcastle.
What another awesome UA-cam video by you Riku Fryderyk ❤
The North Seaton Viaduct, AKA “The Black Bridge” to us locals from Ashington.
Great video and i like how the station is made
Great video, Riku. Blimey, you were there early, I hadn't even set off by the time you got there! Looks like you had a busy day, I only saw you once, at Ashington where I said hello.
Hope you enjoyed the trip from Seaton Delaval. Still disappointed I missed the fact that you guys were starting there.
YES!!!
Nice video. I seen you’s on board and I’m in the video at 4:01
I'll be making a trip to the new Northumberland line next year.👍
Appreciation thread for Sam Firbank, the very first person I met at Ashington this morning, who slept in his car to come to this event! ⬇
PS: I have absolutely no idea how I managed to fly the drone at Seaton Delaval, there were massive 39 mph gusts of wind!
Good vlog riku it will take about half an hour to Newcastle Central because you can get there from London kings Cross
Nice video Riku. In my opinion for your next video, you should make a video about riding on the GWR's North Downs Line from Reading to either Redhill and Gatwick Airport via Guildford.
Good suggestion!
Great video Riku :)
Thanks ☺️
brilliant vlog
This line closed in 1964, supposedly because no-one was using it. Mind you, it was a one-hour service, whilst the bus ran every 10 minutes. Did they deliberately put on a sh*t service so no-one would use it?
Amazing video! I wish I could have been at Ashington and Seaton Delaval but unfortunately I couldn't come.
Maybe one day!
@@rikufryderyk Hopefully!
Riku, you're in the Rail Focus Northumberland line reopening video, standing in a 158 vestibule 58 seconds in, if you want to add that one to your "videos I've appeared in, even briefly" playlist.
you still haven't added it I see?
This has been done on the cheap. Why has Ashington been made a terminus with only one platform? It should’ve had two and the railway extended round to the ECML, Pegswood and Morpeth before returning to Newcastle.
Hi saw you on the morning at ashington
I dont know why they couldn't have put a station back in Seghill ,after all the main road through Seghill is called STATION ROAD and the row of houses alongside the railway are called Station Cottages.
I still don't know how to pronounce Seaton Delaval lol🤔
That’s fine, I don’t expect anyone to be going back there soon 😂
Thanks for the donation :)
So nice to see the Northumberland Line now reopened to the public. Maybe Network Rail should reopen the former railway line that went from Alnmouth to Alnwick.
Network Rail won’t be reopening that line because it’s now a functioning heritage railway.
A 1.2 mile section between Alnwick Lionheart and Greenrigg has opened and the remaining section between Greenrigg and Alnmouth will reopen in the coming years. It won’t be possible to access the original Alnwick terminus station due to development on the trackbed and the A1 Alnwick bypass bisecting the route.
Totally agree
I understand when you say there are not much train enthusiasts as they mostly find their way to the final Avanti West Coast class 221… 2:51
No, it’s just that most of them started at either Seaton Delaval or Newcastle
Does it lose volume towards the end? I got no sound on the interview with Dennis Pancett ?
Did you see Geoff Marshall there? I expected him to be laying on the ground somewhere. Excellent video again 👍
Nope. I’m excited to see his video.
@@rikufryderyk 👍
His Royal Geoffreyness doesn't slum it with the plebians these days...he was invited onto the 'press special' though god knows why.
I’ll be doing a video on this line reopening early next year.
Delluhvul, not De Lavell.
Protecting passengers from the weather when waiting for the trains would be sensible.
Late respons but oh well
Great video
Also, what did dennis say at 07:15 as the sound glitched (at least for me)
I’m not sure why everyone is saying there’s a technical issue for that section, it’s always fine on my end. Were you listening on headphones by any chance?
Now they just need to bring back the Leamside Line
We can hope 👍
Dream on. That’s one that won’t be coming back.
It goes to De la Valle?
The name Delaval is actually French so probably would have been pronounced like that originally.
It is so nice to see the Northumberland Line now reopened to passengers. Why not extend it to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea and to add an extension from Newsham to Blyth.
I think they'll put on a shuttle bus. Neither nearest stations are anywhere near the town centre.
This is the 2nd and last Restoring Your Railway project - because Rachel Reeves cancelled it in July 2024
Nice video :)
UPDATE apparently the 1130 Ashington-Newcastle train today had to turn people away as it was full
Whoah. That’s terrible.
@ I mean high demand is a good thing
Riku you have to ride the new IRIZAR Ie tram bus on route 358 soon they are very cool and different to regular buses! Great vid BTW
I’m trying my best to get to Orpington/Crystal Palace soon… but the question is, how soon is soon? 😅
@@rikufryderyk well i mean maybe the next few months otherwise they are just going to start being a normal bus like the older citaro 358s are.
the buses are very cool ive been on a few as i live in beckenham
What are the train fares to Newcastle
There are plenty to see in Seaton Delaval! You should get some great ice creams in a cafe in the village centre, which is one of the best in the country, and take a taxi or bus further towards the coast you’ll find Seaton Delaval Hall which is a Grade I listed manor house with lots going on inside.
Hi what app is best to see live running trains ?
You can use an app that’s built into your phone such as Apple maps or Google Maps
or Realtime Trains (RTT)
Something not right with the sound? Dennis Fancett interview seen in silence, then audio comes back!
I’m not sure about this to be honest- one other person has commented the same, I think it may be something to do with what channel the audio was on, perhaps you are listening to the video with only one headphone piece.
@rikufryderyk no headphones used - watched and listened straight off this phone, which has never previously given me such an interruption. Most annoying thing? Dennis is a chum going back many a long year!
Uh, from about 7.20 to 9.10, the sound is gone...
It’s not…
@rikufryderyk For me it is. That Dennis guy, can't here a word he says,
No sound for me either Riku 😢@rikufryderyk
I mean just during the interview
It's fine for me (but maybe a touch soft? Needs work?), so it seems like a You Tube problem.
the prices would have been nice.
Sorry, completely slipped my mind.
@@rikufryderyk may be a follow up see if it is still popular after the newness goes.
then you can include more on travel time between stops. cost how often trains run
some station are more to houses than to shops ./ highstreets.stops
I saw you but I felt to scared to say hi
Sorry if I seemed a bit occupied and flustered, I get really nervous at station openings!
@@rikufryderyk it’s not you I’m just really shy
He wants to see all the stations opened in the next few months...
Has he been to Northumberland Park recently? 😂
Hurrah for trains
Seaton de-lavel 😂😂😂
The big video about the new train line yet my question is What happened to your glasses?
😂 I’m not quite sure…
@@rikufryderyk 😂. Ah yes, this is what I was going to say. You are lucky these stations don't have lifts...
@@rikufryderykdid your sight just get better or what lol? that's what happened to me.
Nice to see a new line *not* featuring his royal Geoffreyness aka Geoff Marshall.
He was there
@@s125ish On the press special, not on the service train with the commoners.
I wonder how long it will take before it's all trashed by graffiti artists?
My house is built by Morgan syndel and my house is bad
Judging by the lack of interest some bairns it's wasted cash..
Time yet
