I like Guarded Goods for laces, although the leather ones that Grant Stone uses are also good. Leather laces for a more rugged look and waxed cotton for a bit dressier.
As usual, great review my friend. I have the Diesel and the Ottawa, both a half size down from Brannck. They feel great, with the Ottawa being a bit roomier at the toe box. My next GS purchase will be the Brass, and that brown CXL looks amazing 😊
Good to see I'm not the only person who had problems with the laces in these boots. I have two pairs (black and crimson chrome excel) and tried pairs of KG's and Iron Laces in these boots. I've ended up with Iron Places in both pairs after a week.... The Iron Laces were a bit more flexible and allow the double knot to lay flat compared to the KG's. And I have the feeling they are going to last for s long time. I went with the 63" length laces, but I might have gone to the next length down of i were going to replace them as they seem a bit long.
I have the diesel boot in the same leather. Beautiful color. Grantstone boots are simply awesome!! I have several pair and each are beautiful and the quality is second to none.
Great review, thanks. Sorry I saw a UA-cam video once on best way to tie your bootlaces to prevent slipping but I can't find it. His technique was to thread the laces through the eyelets from the outside instead of from the inside as most of us do. Might be worth a try...
I sized down a half size like normal in their other boots but had to put inserts in them. There is a very generous amount of space length and width wise. Do not have a narrow foot either.
Yeah, I got my brass boots last month and love them...but the laces have got to go. I have both leather and paracord laces arriving today. I prefer leather laces (like with most of the Diesel boots) but will probably go with the paracord since they're going to get a little more dusty and dirty until some of the others I use for more casual/office settings.
I sized down 1 size and can say they are my best fitting boot i own, trashed the laces and went with brown leather on my black pair and a dark brown waxed flat on my #8. Amazing how laced can make or break a good boot, thx for sharing. GB
Same here! I have two of the brass boots. First one I went with a half size down like some suggested. They fit.. OK. Just a bit loose for me. I sized down 1 size on the other pair and they fit FANTASTICALLY!
I also had the Nike Legend hightop. Mine had the red swoosh. Many youthful adventures and misadventures wearing those awesome shoes. I have around six pairs of Grand Stone boots, but all of them are either the Diesel or the Edward. But I do like the look of this crimson CXL Brass Boot. Thanks for showing them. Can't go wrong with Grant Stone.
I’m 19 going on 35 apparently. I think I’d prefer this over the Diesel, but I can’t choose between the color you have in the video and the Dune coloration
@@StrayReviews Since you have 1st hand experience with both, would you prefer the Brass over the Diesel’s? Or does it really depend on other factors in a given day?
@@NotTrolling399 Great question. The Bras Boots are a bit roomier, so a nice choice for people with wide feet. Personally, I find myself reaching for my Diesels just a tad more than I wear my Brass boots.
Hello! I commented like 5 months asking if you prefer this or the Diesel. I just purchased a pair of the Brass boots in black. I also watched your video on the Thursday Boot waxed canvas jacket, which ultimately led me to buying their selvedge denim jacket. How that happened, I have no idea. Either way, thank you for the videos and your responses. Maybe you’ll review the selvedge denim jacket from Thursday Boot one day lol
@@NotTrolling399 I have both the brass boot (lug sole) and Diesel in the same chromoexcel leather. Both are wonderful and size the same (I wear 10D) in both. While the brass is heavier, I actually think it's slightly more comfortable for extended walks (the outer sole seems to have a slight more shock absorption on pavement). I'm glad I own both, and I'm eying the black brass wedge next. I'll be done after that.... hopefully.
Leather laces are my absolute favorite. I just feel like they take the appearance of quality through the roof with most models. Typically I try to match the leather colors, and even shades. That said, these would most likely be receiving a pair of black ones, as the color would be difficult to match
How does the shock absorption compare to a wedge sole (like the black RW mocs you have)? I don’t think you have a pair of GS Moc Wedges to my knowledge, but I’m torn between the wedge and original sole options. I have the Diesel, so perhaps you can compare it to that for my reference.
I don't know why Grant Stone offer these super thin waxed cotton laces on their boots. I have both a pair of GS brass boots and the GS field boots. The field boot only came with these thin laces, but luckily my pair of brass boots came with some nice leather laces too.
if you walk alot, hike and are older heavy shoes are a definite disadvantage. that describes me and i have a few pairs of heavy hipster boots. i buy them secondhand usually from guys who, say, not only bought redwing mocs but they also bought into the hype that once the thick leather footbed molds to your feet they will be as comfortable as slippers 🤣🤣

I have some of the chunky PNW boots mostly in ankle boot style. They are fine for house to car to work and return. Also, for limited walking around. Same with my cowboy boots. I do wear a lot of my Red Wing heritage boots for walking a lot. Iron Rangers and Blacksmiths mostly. Not so much the Moc toe ones.
I have these boots in black cxl and also a diesel boot. I simply love them. But I think after Trump would come, this brand along with Thursday would increase their prices because of increased tariffs.
I have a very wide foot and extremely high instep. My work boots are Red Wing 2449 in 10.5H width and fit well. My Thorogood Moctoes are 10.5W are tight with the provided insole but just snug and comfortable with a high arch insole. Everything I see says GS are roomier than most, should I go with an E width or actually get the EEE? I'm so hard to size that buying shoes online always feels like I'm going to hate the fit. At $380 I'm afraid of ordering the wrong size.
Not sure if you’re still looking but absolutely go wider I only have one pair of diesel boots from GS but they run about a full size too long but pretty true on the width. My foot measures a 13EEE and my boots are a 12EEE which still feel a bit roomy length wise but I absolutely could not go narrower.
I'm really happy with the half size down on the Brass boot. Especially since I'll be wearing them with thick socks. I heard from one person that said they went a whole size down, and it was a great fit for them. It depends on how roomy you like your boots.
@@StrayReviews thanks for the info. The diesel size 9D is a good fit for me. I also tried the Diesel 8.5D and it too small for my liking. Which is why i want some info before buying the Brass Boots. I will go 8.5D on the Brass boots confident knowing some go full size down on them.
