@@Judge_Magister The Dorians were one of the greek tribes , along with Aeolians, Achaeans, and Ionians. These tribes all had highly similar culture and religion but also distinct national identity and dialect. As it is explained in the video the national identity in these old times was much more... narrow, geografically. All tribes, however viewd themselves as having the same ethnicity and referred to themselves as Hellenes.

@@Judge_Magister You mean who were the Dorians? They were Greek tribes which originated from Western Macedonia and Eastern Epirus, i.e. they were the mountainous tribes residing in the Pindus mountain range in north Greece. We already find the term "Dorian" in Linear B tablets referring to what we presume were "servants" or "slaves" so it is safe to presume that these mountainous tribes were trickling to the southern richer and more advanced states as labour force, i.e. as "slaves"/"servants" or, very plausibly as mercenaries. We know for example that Achilles' Myrmidones were in fact Dorians, it is explicitly mentioned in the Iliad since Homer calls them "Hellenes" back at a time the term "Hellenes" was not a national term for all Greek tribes but rather a tribal name of Dorians.
So Dorians were trickling down from Macedonia into Thessaly - that is presumably where they got the name "Hellenes", residing in a region called Hellas, mentioned by Homer - they either named it themselves or adopted the name after it being a local pre-existing one. To be noted Homer describes these "Hellenes" (i.e. Dorians) as "Achaeans" in the ethnic/national term thus telling us that they were a different tribal set but always withing the ethnic group of the rest of Achaeans, i.e. the rest of Greeks (as said, back then the national term for all Greek tribes was "'Achaeans"). In Thessaly, perhaps the oldest Dorian invasion was that of the Magnetes who took over Magnesia. Them they retained their Dorian dialect. The rest of Dorians who ruled over Thessaly adopted rather the pre-existing Aeolian dialect.
A sub-group of Dorians from south Thessaly, from the old kingdom of Achilles which contained the region of Hellas, moved southwards taking over Boetia and its main cities, Orchomenos and Thebes (descendants of these spoke a mixed Aeolian-Dorian dialect, called Boetian). And then moved further south. After failing to capture Attica which was well defended by the local Achaeans (ancestors of the later Ionians living there, known as Attics/Athenians), they jumped over into Peloponesus and after a succession of wars they finally took over Argos and then a generation later moved into Sparta. Once done that, a part of their aristocracy moved back to their original birthplace, in Macedonia which back then was fragmented into tiny kingdoms and set a kingdom which evolved into the later known kingdom of Macedonia. The kingdom of Macedonia as we know it expanded then further to the east subjugating the Thraecian tribes one by one - but beware when we mean "Thraecian" here we again speak of Greek tribes as the term "'Thraecian" was a regional one, not an ethnic one. It is very unfortunate that today this is fantacized as some kind of "ethnic" term when in reality the 100% of these "Thraecian" tribes living south of the Rhodope mountain range spoke Greek, had Greek culture and had the same Gods. Not to be mixed with northern Thraecians, i.e. tribes residing north of Rhodope mountain range (in modern day Bulgaria) whose ethnic identity is uknown to this day (though even them left the 100% of their written record in Greek and Greek only, for whatever reason - not of this topic of course).
Dorians also organised the kingdom of Epirus. The Aetolians and Akarnanians in western Greece were also Dorians but it is not sure whether they were invaders there or if they had been locals such as in the case of Epirus and Macedonia.
What is interesting in this is that if we study Achaeans we will soon find that they were not, themselves too, locals of Peloponesus. In Peloponesus there was another set of Greek tribes, called Arcadians, who were found in the mountainous center of this islandic-like piece of Greek land. So all chances are that Achaeans too could had been a product of an earlier invasion into Peloponesus... we could even presume that Achaeans themselves were an earlier "Dorian-like" invaasion from central or northern Greece that may had happened many centuries before the Trojan War, somewhere in the early (3000 BC) or at latest middle-Bronze Age (around 2000 BC).
What you need to keep out of all this is that we always talk of local Greek tribes moving around. We have no evidence of any "newcomers". This is the reason why all these tribes spoke dialects of theirs but always within the Greek language, always having the same general culture in spite of their regional differences. I am stating this because in the past 2-3 centuries many wanted to fantacize about "out of Greece" invaders coming in and wrecking the place which was something that now we know for sure did not happen. All the Bronze Age collapse and the coming of the Dark Ages actually was a self-inflicted misery caused by the Greek tribes themselves. If you think of it, this is in fact an even darker scenario! And a good lesson to everybody of how civilisation may collapse, and so easily.

Nice! You explained quite correctly the mistake of calling all Hellenes Greeks!
Back then there was not the concept of countries. There were just nations.
The Hellenic nation consisted of many Hellenic tribes:
Thracians, Makedonians, Thessalians, Epirus, Minoans, Achaeans… etc etc
One of these was the Γραικοί/grekoi
Grekoi colonised the southern part of Italy and the Etruscans thought that all Hellenes were Grekoi…
That’s why the Romans named us Graeci!
And that’s why even today, all the southern part of Italy is known as Magna Grecia/greater Hellas.
Grekoi means nothing but Hellas has a very interesting meaning!
First, in Hellenic it’s Ελλάς / Ellás.
The stress is on the second syllable.
    El + las
*El* is a proto-Hellenic term meaning Sun
Ελ - Ελιος or Ήλιος =
El -Elios or Ilios > Helios: Sun in English
*Las* is a proto-Hellenic term meaning literally rock but metaphorically soil/land.
From las came the term land.
Eng-land > the land of Aglos
    Deutsch-land the land of Deutsch…
So, Hellas means the land of Sun/light
Hellenes means the sons of Sun
Hellenic means the language of light!
Hellenes never referred to ourselves as Grekoi…
Calling all Hellenes Greeks it’s like me calling all Americans Californians…
It’s like calling the island of Britain Londonia and every British person Londoner…

It is not a mistake. Nations often have several names. Italic tribes including Romans met the Graikoii tribe thus called us "Graechi". Hellenes were originall a Dorian tribe of South Thessaly and by conquering Peloponesus they sptead their tribal name as a national name for all tribes. In the East Ionians were the predominant tribe thus Asiatic people including the Persians called us Yunani/Yauna. There is no error in this. Remember that back in the Bronze Age the most predominant tribe were the Achaeans and that was also our national name it seems. Later on in the Middle Ages, having adopted the Roman citizenship, the term "Roman" had become a national name for Greeks. So depending on era, you have Achaeans, Hellenes, Greeks, Ionians and Romans all being national names of Greeks. No error. Just historical circumstances.

Hellenes is an umbrella that contain all the others!
Hellenes were divided in four main races:
      Dorians
      Aeolians
      Achaeans
      Ionians
Each of the Hellenic nations were belonging in one of these races:
      *Dorians* = Peloponnesians, Makedonians…etc
      *Aoelians* = Thessalians…etc
      *Achaeans* = Mycenaeans…etc
*Ionians* all the Hellenes of Minor Asia and Thrace…

      Dorians Aeolians Ionians Achaeans
      | | | |
      Sparta Thessaly Thrace Mycenae
      Makedonia Minor Asia

During the Roman era every citizen of the empire could be called as ‘’Roman’’
During the Byzantine era, the Hellenes were self called Ρωμιοί/Romií not Ρωμαίοι/Romans.
Romiòs meant Hellene and Orthodox Christian in contrast to the term Roman which later was associated with Italy and Catholicism.
It was a misunderstanding by the Etruscans/Italians that all Hellenes we were Grekoi because they met only the Frekoi that colonised their lands.
On the other hand, the Middle Eastern tribes call all Hellenes Yunans> Ionians which is also wrong because not all Hellenes are Ionians!
Herodotus, Homer, Plato, Thucydides… all of our ancestors were calling themselves Hellenes even though some were Grekoi, some Ionians, some Achaeans… etc
      We are all Hellenes!

@@Kolious_Thrace What I am saying is that just like tribal "Greeks" gave the national name among Italic (and by extension to Europeans) tribes, just like the tribal "Ionians" gave the national name among Lydians (and by extension to most Asians), the tribal "Hellenes" who were Dorian tribes from South Thessaly (and part of Achille's army at Troy - Homer mentions that explicitly), gave the national name among us. It is the same procedure really. The only difference is that the one process occurred in Italy, the other in Minor Asia and the third in mainland Greece. But essentially there is no difference in the process. We call Iranians as "Persians" who were only one of the Iranian tribes. Earlier in archaic times we were calling them as " Medes" again from another Iranian tribe. Nations do tend to have mutiple names. We call the French as Galloi. Magyars are called Hungarians and Suomi Finnish. So you see, it is not even any Greek particularity here. Asking people to call us Hellenes is of no importance at all when all three names are essentially Greek. Greek is fine, Yunan is fine and ours, Hellenes, is also fine. I am fine with Roman too - and no there is no difference between " Romaios" and "Romios", the same thing just different accent. When we speak of Romans of the Eastern Roman Empire, particularly after the loss of Syria and Egypt, we mean us Greeks and that is how it was. None was calling as "Romans" the Bulgarians or the Serbians or the Armenians even if they far too often were part of the Empire.

The most amazing thing about this mystery is the fact that after a long blank period there all of a sudden appeared a new alphabet, an unbelievable perfect language and so much wisdom and culture. Also the language of Greeks has been changing in the millennials starting from the Pelasgians as engraved symbols, like the Egyptian ones. After many natural destructions and the known floods of the Greek mythology, Linear A comes as a fragmentation of Pelasgian language. Then came Linear B more simplistic than linear A but still with symbols and finally the "Kadmeia" or "Phoeniciia" letters that as the Greek mythology says Kadmos brought them from Greek Phoenicia or Philistaia. Others say that they've been called Phoenician, because of the paint that were painted, the "Phoinos" or "Porphyros" or red. Personally I don't think the question has ever been answered as to and how and why the Ancient Greeks became such an enlightened people . I mean hec man look .....the birth place of democracy , huge advancements in geometry , mathematics , medicine, the sciences , architecture , philosophy and even our very forms of government and judicial systems today were all birthed in that extraordinary country by its people . No wonder Greece is called the cradle of Western Civilization .
NO society ever reached the heights that were attained by Ancient Greece. An incredible people . The world we live in today is a Hellenised world . The Greeks of today should remember who they were , and who they still are , .......if they can find it within themselves .

I began reading all the comments that have been made on this video, some of them go back over a year ago. Seems this video had sparked a great deal of debate on the Ancient Greeks, who they were and where they came from. I don't know how accurate it all is, as we are going back in time a good deal. One commentator here even stated the Egyptian pyramids were built by one of subcultures within the multiple Greek tribes or groups. It's a bit too deep for me but thank you for your comment.
All I know is that as time progressed all these different tribes or groups must have come together to call themselves HELLENES, WITH ONE LANGUAGE ONE RELIGION ONE CULTURE. They went on to achieve remarkable things.

It happens that I just started reading a book about Antipater, one of his clever generals who became really influential during the reign of Alexander, and this is why I know the whereabouts of the Macedon's death. It's a really petty detail, but it spoils a little the great quality of all your report, otherwise flawless.

A group of scientists in 1997 proposed the Black Sea deluge hypothesis in which during the Quartenary Period the Black Sea was an inland lake not connected to the Mediterranean. There is evidence that the shoreline was much further in than it is at present, and Bob Ballard did find evidence of man-made structures beneath a few meters below the surface. It is thought that around 5600 BC there was a catastrophic natural disaster which may have released the Mediterranean waters into the Black Sea basin increasing its size and destroying whatever human settlements that existed near the ancient shoreline. Beyond cultural influence of borrowing stories from one another, the memory of this and the passing down of stories and myths of a great flood would explain the existence of these stories throughout the ancient Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean. In the Americas such flood myths can be explained by more localized flood events.

There was a gigantic sea level rise around 12 000 years ago which caused world wide floods. Tribes that existed back then passed the stories down. There is no other explanation to why countless cultures talk about a flood myth.

It’s interesting that almost if not every culture has a story about the flood of Noah. We know from the Bible that Noah and his children lived before the flood and lived up to 900 years old. Because we don’t know how they aged if you knew this older guy when you were a child and when you became an old man and this person looked the same way you remember as a child. This is more than likely how Greece would have a religion of God’s mating with humans mistaken men who lived before the flood as a God. This is my speculation from study. The holy Bible old covenant and new covenant
