In Finland when we're ice fishing for perch, we usually drop the lure just under the ice cap and go slowly toward the bottom, trying to fish every spot between the top and bottom. Many times those big perch are hunting just under the ice cap and in middle water. Sometimes when you drop the lure straight into the bottom the fish gets spooked and swim away. Of course this always depends on what lures are you using, what kind of lake you are fishing and every other magical ice fishing elements to take consider. I bet the lake bottom works just fine with insect-like lures, when minnow-like lures works best going from top to bottom.
Also you have a cool channel, and HUGE perch in there! Keep up the great work! Thumbs up!

Our Perch here in Canada are almost always right on the bottom in the winter. Tapping a very small tungsten jig with a short bit of gulp earthworm about 3 inches off the bottom works amazing!

I am fortunate enough to have a lake 2 miles from work be full of jumbo perch! All I used is a swedish pimple maybe sometimes tipped with wax worms or a minnow head, but a lot of times a pink tube with no bait does the trick. Nice video Clayton!

the main cadence difference I have found with perch vs walleye is instead of keeping it moving and jiggling it on the spot when they close the distance to the jig hold it still and watch for the tick. "Are you happy with your purchase."=(perches)

Even if they're not feeding on minnows, if you're allowed two lines where you're fishing try putting down a minnow in a second hole near your jigging hole. They might not bite that minnow, but it keeps the school interested and they stick around a little longer.

Hey man just a thought for the whole 'plastics' and perch. I've fished for and caught ALOT of in my lifetime. I'm from Saskatoon. the only 'plastics'/lure combo that has consistently successful for me without using bait has been a Northland 'forage minnow' jig head. Tipped with a gulp alive 1" minnow plastic (they come in the little jar). Perch love them. Other than that though go with bait.

In BC, we have a bait company called "Scotties Bait" that we buy it from. It is fairly delicate and hard to get to stay on the hook unless we wrap it with "Spider Thread", which is a very fine elastic thread, which does a good job. The krill that we buy comes in bottles about the same size as the Berkley Gulp maggots, another product that we use a lot of while ice fishing for kokanee.I have no idea about availability east of the Rockies.
