Much better without the music competing with your voice. Great information!

Not gonna lie I had convinced myself you were going to pitch narrow gauge passenger rail.

@@ValhalQcoholic there are a handful of locations in which narrow gauge could be leveraged well. Mostly Town to town or regional rail. The best contender would be extending the Durango and Silverton to Telluride through a tunnel into the west side of Telluride. The reasons for this would mostly be to connect Telluride to a more reliable airport down in Durango. And possibly get a rail extension from the Durango and Silverton to purgatory. Thus linking the ski resorts. Telluride likes exclusivity. But that exclusivity sometimes works against them. Having an alternative route out of that box Canyon could be beneficial. Especially since any rail line narrow gauge or otherwise running at a modest or even slow speed through Silverton down to Durango would be faster than driving from Telluride to Durango.

Obviously you would need buy in from American heritage rail that runs the Durango and Silverton. This would be entirely different rollingstock given the long tunnel. I suspect they would need dual mode locomotives with some kind of electrical pick up for a long tunnel. Third rail or overhead wire. But it could be a very interesting service.

If you wanna talk whiplash, I got funneled here off of City Beautiful's Shibuya Crossing video. Still, I live in CO, so this is more relevant.

Well yes it’s there… And the idea Traveling to the the Cumbres and Toltec line exclusively by rail would be a fun trip. But aside from a handful of communities in northern New Mexico it would be mostly used for that purpose. Which isn’t a bad proposition. But it would definitely be more of a tourism line for hard-core rail fans.
Colorado is in a unique position where due to the beauty of the state there are many rail lines which could be hybrid commuter and tourism lines. Basically having a passenger train with strikingly different tiers of service within the same consist. Almost to return to the concept of first class and second class. It would be like having a royal gorge dinner train with some basic passenger cars that sticks to a much more frequent and consistent schedule. Half the people getting on board are ski employees and locals trying to get around and the other half are wealthy tourists that get a dining car.
