Ron, thanks for checking this out. Yes, this particular TEC Route is very similar in lateral routing to the Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) VFR corridor. The SFRA is of course VFR at 3500/4500' and doesn't require talking to ATC at all (that's bizarre but cool, isn't it?!)... whereas this CST21 TEC Route is IFR at 6000' and you're speaking to SoCal Approach the whole time. Both give the same awesome view of LAX. Going northwest bound this right-over-LAX TEC Route is favored, whereas going southeast bound as on my previous video, the preferred routing is well east of the LAX arrivals. Thx! Wayne
GeezerGeek Pilot Oh, I would have MUCH rather flown what you did, but the guy with me knew the SFRA, and it just seemed soooo wrong to fly that right over LAX, soooo weird!!!
Thank you for this video... watching it now and very much appreciate it. I haven't flown IFR in a long time and I'm just getting back into it. I also fly out of KFUL.
Great video Wayne. It's relaxing to watch you fly. Being based at WHP, I sometimes file IFR but pick it up in the air b/c IFR departures out of there can sometimes take awhile.
Santa Barbara is easy and quick for IFR departure (e.g. previous video); maybe averages 20 seconds longer than VFR :-). I tried IFR out of WHP once, but after 15 minutes (impatient aren't I?!) requested a VFR departure and, as you note Bryan, got the IFR clx in the air. Thanks for watching!
Great Video! Helped me understand numerous things I’m working on for my IRA better!
Glad you found the video useful. Thanks for watching! Wayne (DA40 KSBA)
Just started my IFR training. Learned a lot from your video! Thank you!!!
Erich, very glad you're finding the channel useful for your IFR! Thanks for watching. Wayne (DA40 KSBA)
Thank you for taking the time to capture, edit, and post this. Your efforts are appreciated.
Many thanks!
Nice video and shot of Torrance!
Kevin, thanks for watching (and noticing Torrance)!
TEC = Tower (not Terminal) en route control; TAC = Terminal Area Charts
Clara, I appreciate the valid correction... and so noted in the Description. Thanks. Wayne (DA40 KSBA)
Good job, I flew that once over LAX, but with someone who KNEW the VFR corridor procedure!!!

Wayne, Thanks for the video! I followed you throughout your Caribbean trip and enjoy all your tutorials. Much better than simply a travelogue.
