Amy was always my least favourite sister from the original novels, yet Florence Pugh managed to add more depth to her. She definitely deserved that Oscar nomination.
This is THE fall movie! So glad you enjoyed it Chu! In the book after Amy scolds Laurie, he tries to write his opera with Jo as his heroine but he can't. While looking for inspiration in Jo he can only think of her faults and quirks he doesn't like (like she said he would), but then his mind conjures up a blonde heroine. The more he writes about her the reader can tell he is falling in love with Amy. By the time Laurie reunites with Amy, he has fallen in love with her and only loves Jo as a sister. This is the first adaptation, that in my opinion, did Amy justice and it's all thanks to Greta and Florence.
Love this film and your reaction! Saoirse Ronan is the actress that plays Jo, she is insanely talented. If you haven't seen "Atonement" yet you need to! A beautiful, heartbreaking film with Keira Knightley. Saoirse is in that as well and I have never hated a 13 year old more 😅 pretty sure she was BAFTA or Oscar nominated for that role
i love amy and laurie so much, in the book specially you get to see him fall so in love with her and he's right it is different from what he felt for jo.
Laurie loved Amy and Jo most of the girls, but he loved all of the March girls. They were all kind, talented, loving, and beautiful. He knew from the moment he met them that he was supposed to be part of the family. He could’ve fallen for any of the daughters. He just ended up forging the closest bonds with Jo and , eventually, the closest bond with Amy. It’s a beautiful story of a man who knew where he belonged and with who. He just didn’t know how he fit, but everyone always knew that Laurie was the 5th March ‘kid’ from the moment he met the family.
The Author Louisa May Alcott never married or had kids, its kind of implied that jo's marriage to fred was just to please the publishers and she never actually married.
This movie is so frickin good. Saorsie Ronan plays Jo and she has been one of my faves for years. She also played the lead in Greta’s other film, Lady Bird, and she ate that role UP.
I liked that they left it up to the audience to decide whether Jo going after Friedrich to confess her love actually happened, or was simply an elaborate daydream of Jo's
I will always stand at that it was all for the book, never happend in real live - just like it happend at the pages of the novel, but not in the movie.
i know jo and laurie never end up together but it was so hard for me to accept it in this version because i love saoirse and timothée's chemistry soooo much
@@tshemomokoena 100% agree. I love that they've added the letter to the movie, which never appeared in the book. Just added to my impression that Jo always loved Laurie too.
TBH, I feel the movie makes something of a case that Jo was possibly queer and was forced to marry by the end of the narrative, which is similar what happened to the original book's author who based Jo on herself.
It’s you being mad that the publisher wanted the main character to be married at the end, but also being excited that Joe is is gonna marry Frederick at the end😂😂
I read this book years ago. It's a classic all over the world. When I watched this version the first time I was unsure. There have been quite a few movies of Little Women over the years. They follow the story the way the book is written: in chronological order. I loved the pacing of this movie, how we got the flashbacks. I also love how animated they all were, acting goofy with one another and playful and teasing. It feels so real--and I suppose it is, since is based off of Alcott's family. I appreciate how much you loved this movie and understand how difficult it was (and can be still in many parts of the world) for women's livelihoods.
I have seen both people who have shipped Amy and Laurie and those who have wished that Jo and Laurie would’ve ended up together, and I understand both sides. Jo and Laurie have this deep, unique bond and understanding, humor and inside jokes that they couldn’t have with anyone else. In my eyes, they are platonic soulmates, but a little too similar to work as a romantic couple in the long run. In that way, Jo was right: eventually, they would have started to resent each other. I believe that Jo always loved Teddy in her own way, but it wasn’t equal to the way Teddy felt for her. She wakes up the important question: Do we love someone for who they are or do we just want to be loved? Like she said, the second time she would’ve agreed to marry him because she was lonely. When it comes to Amy, it was different. Amy had to love Laurie from the sidelines for quite some time, while Laurie’s love for her grew gradually. Their story wasn’t written in the stars: they bickered, fought, even, and challenged each other constantly. They were different enough to complete each other. There was - and is - tension, sparks and earthly and honest love. Amy is exactly the kind of wife that Laurie needs. And Laurie respects her and supports her the way she deserves. At least that's how I see it. Thanks for this reaction, it was a joy to follow.
19:28 I think that’s the thing, he loves all of them and being around them makes him happy, they are like family to him but it’s not romantic love for all of them. They all matter to each other, which is why they care so much about each other and what the other person thinks of them.
I religiously rewatch this movie every few month and when I tell you that I may not know multiplication table of 7 but I know EVERY LINE of the movie by heart, I am not joking.... G in genius stands for Greta Gerwig (funny how Shakespeare has been really quiet ever since little women 2019 came out)
saoirse is amazing. her role as lady bird was beautiful. she also was in brooklyn and the lovely bones like a generational talent fr she can do anything
Saoirse Ronan who played Jo has been in CRAZY amount of movies that you should definitely check out! Atonement, The Lovely Bones, Lady Bird, The Host, Mary Queen of Scots and many more
I'm so glad you shouted out the actress who plays Beth (Eliza Scanlan)! She also stars in a movie called Babyteeth from 2019 that made me cry soooo much but in the best way, highly recommend
Omg Chuu this might be my fave reaction so far! Your reactions were very on point for all the parts - especially watching you love Beth and knowing her death was coming I felt so bad for you! Also that gasp when Amy turned down Fred took me out 😂 Also the actress who plays Jo is called Saoirse Ronan (pronounced Surrsha) and if you liked the Twilight movies, she was in The Host which was also written by Stephanie Meyer but a huge step up from Twilight. Brooklyn is also an amazing movie of Saoirse's!
This was such a heartfelt movie😍 I hated Amy and then loved then hated Timothee then loved him (but I really wanted him to be with Jo). I was hurt when Beth died but good people don't live for long💔 But overall loved your reaction
haha you should give call me by your name another chance !! it’s a very intimate and touching film. i’m also really glad you watched this movie, i love little women 😭 i’m happy you liked it, it has a very special place in my heart and so many of my favorite actors and actresses 💛
I loved Amy - I know so many ppl didn’t like her and wanted Jo to be with what’s his face but she didn’t even love him. She just was going to settle bc she didn’t want to be alone.
Okay listen, I do love this version, but I grew up on the Wynona Rider/Kirsten Dunst/Christian Bale version. And it'll always be the MVP in my eyes. Also if you loved the actress Saoirse Ronin, you've got to check out the movie Brooklyn. She was nominated for an Oscar for that one, and it's so wholesome and magical.
I am a huge fan of Little Women (the book, all the versions of the movies over the years...). This is an excellent version. Definitely hits the feminist issues, which is so important and I love it! My all time favorite is the 1994 version starring Winona Ryder. You should watch that one too. It's not necessarily as modern, but all of the performances are so good, and the chemistry between the sisters is fantastic. It's the version that I have revisited the most and I love it every time. I really think you would like it just as much as this one. ❤
OMG Chuuzus! I'm so excited for this one! This movie surprised me so much, I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. It also gives me Autumn vibes so this is a great time to release it 🧡🤎❤💚
I refuse to believe jo married. Taking the hint from the beginning and the end about the publicist forcing a marriage on the female lead. I don't acknowledge the love confession to Friedrich lol
i'm sure someone has mentioned this before to you, but based on direct quotes from the author of the book, she was most likely queer. this book was based on her life, with jo representing her. Louisa May Alcott said things like "i feel like the spirit of a man wrongly put in a woman's body" and "i've fallen in love with many women but not with any man" or something along those lines. she remained single for the rest of her life, but jo's story was changed
I loved this movie, i want you to watch 'the host' with saoirse ronan one of the first films i saw her in!, and 'how i live now' ughh two great films ‘lady bird’ was saoirse ronan and timothee again as leads too good
Chuuzu don’t forget that another movie of Greta’s is “Frances Ha” - she actually stars in that one and it’s very different from these other films (although to be fair “Barbie” is really different from “Little Women” too lol)
Jo and Amy really are very similar in personality. The difference is that Amy is more pragmatic, she's willing to follow convention and social norms to get what she wants and she has an easier way in life because of it. Jo is more rigid and uncompromising, but this means that she has a much rougher time of it. Both methods have pros and cons. Laurie and Amy really do love each other (eventually) in the book. They make a much better couple than Jo and Laurie would have done. Jo was right - she and Laurie would have made a terrible couple, fighting all the time.
I thought this was phenomenal, even though I grew up with the version starring Winona Ryder, Trini Alvarado, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst, Susan Sarandon and Christian Bale.
Florence Pugh as Amy telling Laurie he was being mean and hitting that “🙁” face always makes me cry😭😭
more like ☹️☹️
Amy was always my least favourite sister from the original novels, yet Florence Pugh managed to add more depth to her. She definitely deserved that Oscar nomination.
she ate especially with that monologue
She made me sort of live her 🥰 not that I ever hated her but she definitely was one of my least favourites in the book.
In Amy’s defense of her actions in the flash back specifically burning the book she is supposed to be 11-12 years old
Florence pugh in her twenties playing a little girl is so so funny
@@aquariussolaris2492 just give her bangs and no one will ever know! 😂
Oh okay this makes more sense🤣
Chu is such a slytherin. The way he kept dragging John Brooke for being broke and telling Meg to leave him 😭
the "because I figured you love me, Jo." gets me every time...memorized the whole confession.
sameee lol
This is THE fall movie! So glad you enjoyed it Chu!

“ I like this girl she’s very fluffy I don’t know how to explain it” 😂 is literally the cutest compliment I’ve ever heard 😂
personally i think amy and laurie were the superior couple mainly because jo was louisa may alcott's self insert and she was a lesbian
Ooh, never knew that
Love this film and your reaction!
Saoirse has 4 academy award nominations!!!!
Will forever hate Saoirse for Atonement

I felt this heavily because to me it seemed so out of no where that she ends up marrying this man i was so confused by it
This movie is so frickin good. Saorsie Ronan plays Jo and she has been one of my faves for years. She also played the lead in Greta’s other film, Lady Bird, and she ate that role UP.
Lord, Lady Bird made me sob like three different times, I love it so much
I liked that they left it up to the audience to decide whether Jo going after Friedrich to confess her love actually happened, or was simply an elaborate daydream of Jo's
Not a daydream, just the ending she was forced to write in order to make her story "palatable".
I will always stand at that it was all for the book, never happend in real live - just like it happend at the pages of the novel, but not in the movie.
i know jo and laurie never end up together but it was so hard for me to accept it in this version because i love saoirse and timothée's chemistry soooo much
It’s never not going to be hard for me. I still resent Jo and Laurie not being together to this day.
Same. And idc that Amy helped Laurie grow or they were a better match or whatever. Idc, Jo and Laurie were my favs, in every single version
Idk - she didn’t love him so I’m glad she didn’t end up with him. And in the books you could see him falling out of love for her and falling for Amy.
Omg YESSS I’ve met my people. It hurt that they didn’t end up together, I felt more chemistry with them than Amy and Laurie but oh well
@@tshemomokoena 100% agree. I love that they've added the letter to the movie, which never appeared in the book. Just added to my impression that Jo always loved Laurie too.
The way Chu keeps telling Meg to leave her husband because he’s broke💀💀💀

The 90s version is definitely worth a watch too. This version has the best Amy but the 90s has the best Beth. And both Jos are phenomenal.
