This was my first Dead show. I really don't remember much except that it was long and at some point, during the third set, I crept up into the upper back rows of seats and fell asleep. It was smokey, a lot of joints had been smoked by all...I was in the same room, breathing the same air as Jerry Garcia, I was blissful. It was a long drive bringing my friends back home to Richmond before returning around dawn to Palo Alto with the car I had borrowed from my parents. I was 18. It was the beginning of a long NYE tradition for me. Thanks Okie. ❤🔥

Sons Of Champlin and NRPS started off the evening, by the time the Dead came on it was midnight, so in reality this is a ‘73 show, and what a fine way to bring it in. David Crosby sits in here and there.
At some point, a tripping head ended up on a structural beam way up in the ceiling after dropping through a vent. They stopped the show I think, the kid was paralyzed with fear, freaking and couldn’t move. Some of the equipment crew tried to help him down, but I don’t know the conclusion of that incident anymore. I mean this guy was way up there, real high.
Damn thats crazy the concert stops and all eyes on him

I appreciate your posting this, but I wish you would post all of the info; taper, the name of everyone who worked on this, equipment, etc. there were a lot of people involved in getting this music to us and they should be remembered and thanked.

This show brings the magic. I have never been made sure that a particular guitar sound in the second set is David Crosby's, but it has a permanent place in my mind. It may well be Bobby. It's as acid drenched as 1972 gets. Take a listen. The tone/sound first appears around 2:37:10, then pops up off and on thereafter through Morning Dew; the drippy stereo-delayed metallic sound of cats dancing on electrically charged piano strings, as Jerry's echoed replies propel us spaceward, his Tiger's eyes evoking our collective mind explosion, dumping us windblown on the desert plain at night while thunderstorms flash distant on the horizon, as we race to the sound of chimes directly into the storm, and emerge as bottomless rippling waves massage the ether where the lotus blooms and its dew reflects.
I've never seen or heard this particular show before; the 'missing link' of NYE shows!

Hey, my father (84 with dementia) & I kinda missed Christmas 🎄... he was ill & I said "we'll still have a Merry a little Christmas on the Epiphany"... he is Lutheran & doesn't know that that the Epiphany (little Christmas, was last week)... we are gonna Jerry rig the electric fireplace that glows red & emits heat...& have cornbread with butter 🌽 🍞 🧈... listening to music with a cup of coffee/hot chocolate with chocolate chip 🍪 & a small amount of gifts 🎁... I'm gonna get him a new winter coat, some chocolates & I'm gonna use the birthday gift card he gave me... to get some toiletries such as emory boards (nail files) & Laura Gellar foundation (makeup that evens face skin tone) & a replacement bosè remote... see!... it's never to late to make memories!! ✌️ 🕊 😃
