i think this horse is taking his cue from his human's laughter. he probably thinks he's doing something right because the woman is reacting with delight at his antics. it's almost like a positive reinforcement
It's very common for horses to play with balls like this. Too many owners don't take the time to provide enrichment
The more intelligent the creature, the more important it is to have some form of enrichment. Horses are up there with dogs, and get bored without something to do every once in a while.
Isnt that the case with humans too?
I mean while we play games, we get encouraged by the reactions of others

Actually, most animals love balls; elephants, hippos, horses, bears, fox. I saw a documentary where a man took balls into the wild and many animals were amuzed and playful with them.
Mammals really rend to love toys. Just look up zoo animals playing with pumpkins and you'll see whay I mean, all kinds of mammals get a kick out of them (and some even eat them lol), from hippos to aardvarks to tigers to elephants to bears!
Know how soccer/futbal is humans world religion right? We are still animals lmao and we love playing with balls and watching others play with balls. Ball is universal for animals. I had fish and shrimps that would toss a ball around to each other in their tank lmao

And that’s why you never walk behind a horse, he or she might think you’re a ball. That’s hilarious, my horses when growing up, were hilarious also. We had an Appaloosa that would play games with us, we’d chase him across the entire field, then we’d turn around, and he’d chase us back. Over and over again. What really made it funny beyond any other shenanigans, was when he was running away, he’d kick up his hind legs and fart super loud EVERY time! I don’t know how he did it. He had absolute control over it. So, so many laughs!
