Fantastic video and informative. And makes sense, given Ouchijuku west of Aizu Wakamatsu and directly north of Nikko was a post town and included many inns and restaurants along the route. Though I am not sure if that road is one of the five main "highways" at the time. Another section I think is one west of Shinagawa Station, which probably formed part of the Tokaido route.
Thanks! Ouchijuku was part of the Aizu Nishi Kaido, so not one of the official paths, but still linked to it! Also, I had it in there originally, but Harajuku was part of the Kamakurado, and not one of the official Edo Five Routes. Judging on Shinagawa's location, you're probably right!
Japan is covered in places with names like this. Yamagata means ‘mountain shape’ but apparently used to mean ‘towards the mountains’, the perfect place name! What other places in Japan do you like the name of?
This is my backyard, so not exactly hard to get to, I would love to get out there more than I can though! I would definitely recommend backpacking in Tohoku, it's so beautiful up here!

My favourite prefecture is Kagawa which apparently means Fragrance River.
香川 that would be correct!
Wonderful! I would love to backpack Japan. How do you find the time?
