It's exaggerated in Starship Troopers for sure, but this happens all the time in real world military history. The superior force completely underestimating the "primitive" enemy.
Fascism often involves treating the enemy as simultaneously weak and pathetic but also all-powerful and threatening. Like how Nazis think Jewish people are racially inferior but also somehow controlling the world via conspiracy.
It's the folly of conspiracy theories and propaganda. Our enemy is both somehow savage, frail, cowardly and weak, but also genius, strong, capable of terrifying feats and has total control. It doesn't make sense and is completely paradoxical, but its a common ploy used by every radical movement.

How do the bugs send a meteor our way? Klendathu is in another star system so it is likely at least dozens of light years away. An asteroid hurled from that distance would take over a million years to reach Earth.
I don't think people realize how accurate the argument is at 4:42 while some people use logic. Some people disagree purely because they find it "offensive"
@@brandonwelsh5090 I remember that the moment was kinda smart by dodging it but also taking it out but it still had a long distance to travel to earth I’d hope by the 23rd century we could see asteroids or meteorites coming close easier and weeks in advance
I'm pretty sure the asteroid wasn't sent by the bugs - that's just another part of the propaganda of the film. My read of it was always that it was just a harmless orbiting body that Carmen's ship accidentally hit and knocked off course, that then hit earth as a result and was spun so more people would sign up to the meat grinder. Also, interesting to note, the Arachnids all have actual military units and roles: Artillery, infantry, medical, engineering, intelligence, etc. But the humans only have infantry that swarm in (like insects) that spray bullets haphazardly, (despite part of the propaganda showing how to easily kill an arachnid) and air support that basically do nothing (because the Arachnids tunnel) or rain bombs down on their own doomed allies.
@@billytheafroman In the book the mobile infantry are equipped with iron man style power armour and are dropped onto planets in small numbers. Also the meteorite was blasted towards earth from the Arachnid homeworld, it's just that for some reason the Federation lacked any kind of orbital defense of earth. Military service is only one of a long list of jobs one can do to become a citizen, basically think of any grueling public sector work and that would be a path towards citizenship

anyone that still doesn't understand this film as a critique needs to look again at the Crime and Punishment segment. Where someone is arrested, given a 'trial' for murder with no apparently representation, and then executed live on TV all in the same day.
Hold up never really thought about the bug asteroids but no one questioned how bugs several galaxies always shot asteroids at earth accurately with no light speed capability
It’s not light-speed travel being used, it’s a wormhole. Earth and Klendathu are essentially linked, the travel time between the two isn’t that big From their perspective “wait so these monkeys strap themselves to tonnes of explosives, and blow themselves across the universe to come here?”
The bugs do have FTL of some kind, otherwise how would they massacre the Mormons in the planet of Dantana, or take over Zegema beach (where rico wanted to vacation early in the movie), like Radjzek's sargent said to Rico (not even mentioning that bug plasma is throw out of Klendathu's atmosphere easily by artillery bugs or how the teacher literally said that they throw their spores out of Klendathu to colonize other planets, and aaaalso, Verhoeven, the bad satirist himself said that the bugs threw the asteroid)
Thats precisely the point. This movie is a blatant showcase of how propaganda gets you. The asteroid hitting Buenos Aires is a false-flag operation to justify the war on klendatu.
@@SatoSama-b2p it's not lol, the asteroid happens before they install the air defense system, the opening scene showcase is after they invaded Klendathu, the meteor was totally legit, also bugs can ftl travel to other planets, do you remember when that female sargent said to Rico that that beach he wanted to go to earlier in the movie was taken over by the bugs? Also the Mormon outpost that they show early in the movie isn't on Klendathu iirc
Only reason that system has a bad reputation is because they lost the war. But if you look at old footage remastered it's plain to see all of the genuinely happy people in a clean society with low crime and high trust.

That’s why it’s so brilliant… a great satire + action military movie + comedy, and great on every one of those levels
Remember folks! The only 💯% survival rate is becoming a cameraman. While everyone is getting massacred and dismembered the cameraman is safe and sound. Cameraman immunity buff.😂
I just love the fact that the Morita has by no means iron sights, but the snipers are equipped with big ass scopes they never use lol

I just realised that "arachnids" sounds like "Iraqis" and they live in a desert
Do you know what the word arachnid means?
How do the bugs send a meteor our way? Klendathu is in another star system so it is likely at least dozens of light years away. An asteroid hurled from that distance would take over a million years to reach Earth.
Klendathu is apparently accessible through a wormhole that ends up relatively close to Earth.
WE MUST MEET THIS THREAT WITH OUR COURAGE, OUR VALOR, TO ENSURE THAT HUMAN CIVILISATION - NOT INSECT - DOMINATES THE GALAXY
This movie is so much better as an adult. All the subtleties you don't get as a teenager, god damn.
Addams family values is the best kid movie for adults
For Super Earth!!!!
I don't think people realize how accurate the argument is at 4:42 while some people use logic. Some people disagree purely because they find it "offensive"
Always been a question of how did a asteroid fly that far and not be noticed interstellar war takes years just to make single moves
It was noticed by Carmen's ship but their communications were knocked out when the meteor clipped them
@@brandonwelsh5090 I remember that the moment was kinda smart by dodging it but also taking it out but it still had a long distance to travel to earth I’d hope by the 23rd century we could see asteroids or meteorites coming close easier and weeks in advance
@@Hummey Nothing gets you more recruits than a tragedy.
My book "War in Hollywood - US Cinema against Communists, Terrorists and Aliens" is a study of the ideologies conveyed in American action and adventure films.
I analyzed films such as Independence Day, Starship Troopers, Rambo, Rocky and Iron Man. It is available on Amazon and in several online stores!
I am a Rogério Marques de Paiva, a Brazilian author. And the book is called Guerra em Hollywood O cinema dos EUA contra comunistas, terroristas e alienígenas.

So bugs sents a metour? I guess we have found the culprits for wiping out the Dinosaurs.
I guess the bugs hated the dinosaurs and hoped that their fellow insects would take over but instead, mammals took over Earth instead so now the bugs are trying again to make insects the dominant beings on Earth only this time, their foes can fight back!

I also find the thought of a bug that thinks offensive.
This movie reminds me of the game Starcraft. Bugs are Zerg.
The fist Startcraft came out after the movie and its no secret that both the Zerg and the Humans characters in were influenced by it
@richardparker2555 I love that game starcraft. I gotta get another copy of it. You can get it online. In good shape they don't make it anymore. Blizzard had a good thing going there. It had a great story line and everything. I would play the game just to see what was going to happen next. I felt bad when the Zerg got Sarah. Poor Jim Raynor. I saw the movie like two thousand ten. Helldivers..the movie..
This the only god damn real news i get these days!
5:28 for all we know that ships areprobably also CGI in their universe.
Hold up never really thought about the bug asteroids but no one questioned how bugs several galaxies always shot asteroids at earth accurately with no light speed capability
It’s not light-speed travel being used, it’s a wormhole. Earth and Klendathu are essentially linked, the travel time between the two isn’t that big
From their perspective “wait so these monkeys strap themselves to tonnes of explosives, and blow themselves across the universe to come here?”
none of what you said is in the movie@@InalienableOtter
