  • Watch my John Deere 3046r tractor and Frontier RT1173 tiller doing some spring tilling on four gardens and a food plot. You'll see varying soil conditions and notice the affect moisture has on how the soil clumps up or breaks up finely.
    I had a great time tilling, didn't run into any significant issues, even got a tip and free breakfast! I love my customers!

    That tiller did a fantastic job & looks like a lot of fun preparing the garden for seeding. Effective demonstration 👍🚜

    This was great! I have a big garden and the cost of a tiller for my tractor seemed to high, but..... I sure love those nice finished seed beds.

    Trade hint: for really good pulverizing, raise /lock your end gate open and run backwards in the same pass. Works really well in the heavy compost scenarios like the one on this vid as well as heavy virgin grass.
    Been doing it 30 + years with great results, and with my all original LandPride. I also use it to recondition stone driveways. It's just a bit noisy...

    Wow! You've got a great combo there! I'd love to get into gardening, just so I can buy a tiller for my '17 2032R. I'd be on my own though, wife dont wanna play with a garden. Maybe I need a new wife. Ha!

      Lol, well my wife doesn't like gardening either.
      A man's gotta have his own hobbies :) His own toys too for that matter, haha!

      Good Works Tractors
      You're right! Looks like good therapy to me! Not to mention doing other gardens would offset the cost of the attachment, and eventually pay for itself.

    This is good stuff! I am right up the road from you in Allendale and I want to get people calling me for jobs like this. I am not clear on how to find the people who want it done.

    How fast are you running your engine speed in RPM's while you were tilling?

    Looking for a tiller for leveling uneven, gopher ridden lawn, do you think that 73' tiller would do alright on my 2038R???

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  6 років тому

      I think it would technically handle it, but I would go with a 60".

    Tilling, Plowing, whats the difference? does it matter more or less depending on what kind of gardening you're doing?

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  5 років тому

      I much prefer tilling for gardens and food plots. I'm sure some folks prefer plowing or have applications where they find it superior. I am hard pressed to find a tool that prepares a more consistent seed bed than tilling.

      Plowing can also be tough in such short runs as it can take several feet (6-10) to get a plow or disc sunk in properly.

    I noticed you have a small chain wrapped around the plastic pto shield. What is that for?

    • @dstrait22003
      @dstrait22003 5 років тому

      its to keep the plastic cover drom spinning around with the shaft ...i never use it

    I have the 3039r. Do you think it could handle the 6ft tiller? I have a 4ft on my 1025r and that works great. I have heard the 65” is best for mine. Your thoughts? They are really expensive.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  5 років тому

      I think you could handle a 72". With a tiller, I'd rather have the extra width and go a little shallower if needed. You could always till a little shallower if specific soil conditions are bogging you down. 65" will still cover the width of the tractor though, so you'd be fine there as well. It would also be on the more conservative side.

      Good Works Tractors so that would support the recommendations to go narrower as sometimes I am breaking up sod.. Have you broken up sod with your setup? And do you think 7 less hp could be the limiter. Just curious. Thanks for the quick response.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  5 років тому +1

      I think you'd be fine. I ran a 60" tiller on a 1023e for one season and never ran into an issue with that. This is 16 more HP and two frame sizes larger.
      You can always find a way to max out anything, but 95% of the time I think you'd be fine. In the scenarios your not, just don't cut as deep the first pass or take smaller passes. I like to go over two or three passes anyways.

      Good Works Tractors me too. I tend to buy frontier. The challenge is about $1500 delta price over county line. Do you have any recommendations? TTWT said we would love whatever we buy. Not necessarily seeing that in the reviews

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  5 років тому

      Frontier makes good products. I wouldn't say they are superior to some other manufacturers out there. I sell Tar River & M.K. Martin tillers. I'd put those up against Frontier and John Deere implements any day. My tiller, like most, if not all John Deere/Frontier attachments, is made by another company. I think mine is manufacturered by Maschio if I remember correctly. Nothing wrong with that, just good for the consumer to be aware.

    How do you bid your tilling jobs? Thanks good video

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  6 років тому +2

      Howdy, nothing really official. I charge $100 flat rate for gardens. That includes travel, fuel, labor, etc. For food plots, I do it based on acre if the land is already cleared out. Still a $100 minimum charge, but depends on food plot size or quantity of food plots. I enjoy doing it so much that I probably don't charge enough :) Thanks for watching!

    • @warrentavernia5136
      @warrentavernia5136 5 років тому +1

      there is no bidding to it you just fix a price you think your time and tractor are worth and stick to it. its either by the square foot or by the hour. a small machine is worth 50.00 an hour traveling included. if you are doing it for a friend it`s probably free or a 6 pack. basically on the barter system
