Hi Robbie, Been following you for a long time, but 1st time commenting. I think your stuff is brill, really well documented, we feel we are with you all the time and really enjoy the trips. Having had 5 Narrowboats and now being boatless at the age of 74 ,thank you for conveying me back into my world. This episode of pub of the week I thought was the best yet, Proper Job I know you've tried is how I finish, Stay safe, be with you next time. (PJ).
One of the longest stretches without services for boaters. At least you can go to Aldi, near Stafford (Bridge 98). Tixall Wide is the best mooring on that stretch.
Great video Robbie and was very impressed with your choice of mooring and positive comments about being near the railways, great class 66 in GBRF Livery too well filmed! Thank you kindly good sir! Big fan of narrow boating and the railways (hired one with the Mrs and couple of her friends last year - experienced boaters) and had a great time! Canals or railways it all links us back to a time of fantastic British industry that fortunately we can still see the remains of today thanks to people like yourself documenting it so well. Thank you sir and keep up the great work, Paul
hello i agree i have see just the half for now but hey adventures action suspense and i still dont know if you found some coal at the end (no no dont said it to me )
Great to see you again Robbie. You need a coal boat therefore a worthwhile exercise to kill time for you would be to research them and note them in their different patches on the network and phone ahead to book them. Just an idea. Keep safe and dry and virus free.
Hi Robbie Behind the closed Midland Chandlers is Teddesley Boat Yard where Bourne Boats now live. You could have tried there. Also worth trying to get in touch with one of the roving fuel boats. They would welcome the business and a good plug. Jeff
This was my favourite vid - what more could you want beer , boats , great scenery and a mint place to moor up , oh I won't mention the hunt for coal - nice one Robbie 👍
I don't get a notice for this video. Shame on UA-cam! Love the boat top pub. We did that on are houseboat all the time during the 1970-2007. It was a blast. Hope you didn't loose your wallet on top of the boat. Be safe CRANKING on, Chris from Missouri
Thank you for getting wet and cold -- loved your video as usual. Particularly appreciate the innovative camera work. Be well. Terry and Dianne - down under.
I'm currently reading the section of Narrowboat where Cressy takes the Staffs & Worcs canal. Nice to get the visuals to accompany Rolt's gorgeous prose. Cheers!
Well the good news is that you obviously obeyed the sign and didn't end up needing a kiss from your Princess! Better than my local that pub of the week... nicer locals as well 😎
Your vlogs are amazing. You have such a wonderful personality and voice. I wish I could experience the satisfaction of the canal life for a week or two... thank you for the dream!
Mooring where you did ( looks to be just short of Walton bridge ?) brought back many good memories of my time living near there and walking along the canal in both directions. Thanks for posting!
Robbie, found out that Ska Brewing is sold in Britain. You'll have to look for their Mexican Lager. Think Corona but with a bit more malt and a tad more hops. Ska is brewed in the town I used to live in, Durango, Colorado. Cheers
@Richardo Franzie I actually left Durango 6 years ago. It was getting too crowded. After years of Outside Mag rating Dgo in the top 10 of great mountain towns, the Land Rover and Caddie owners showed up and bought houses with decks the size of my house. I've been to Aspen exactly once. That was enough. I drive through Telluride. SKA has some great brews. Mexican Lager doesn't, that I remember, have more alcohol, just a bigger hop flavor. Buster Nut Brown Ale was a favorite. Hope you can find it back east.
Coal fires (and charcoal) like to be snug, to have a nice nest reflecting heat back onto the coals. A such, its hard to run a fire that is too small for the firebox. One remedy is to get some heavy ( 3mm-12mm ) angle iron spacers to form a smaller nest for a smaller fire inside the firebox. Even just a pair of 6" long 2x2 angle iron set down can make a cozy trough for a small & efficient coal fire in a regular stove.
So I’m just catching up, I had no idea how many vlogs you had! I know this is an old one but the glass at the end caught my attention, one of my favourite pubs and breweries, the New Inn at Cropton 🍻 excellent selection of beer, lager and cider. I’ve never seen them pop up on anything I’ve watched before 👍🏼
That's a great part of the Staffs & Worcs - we cruise it quite often as we moor at Gt Hayward. Loving the great camera work, really adds an extra edge to your vlogs, and the Pub of the Week section was the topping on the cake👍👍
Welcome to our patch Robbie. You must have passed us, few yards up from the Anchor BR Coven. Hatherton Marina is a place to avoid! Sorry you had such a struggle to find coal, we’ve had the same issue during lock down, also ended up fetching it from a garage
Almost finished your videos, i think this was actually the best one - "Coal Quest". Good story, with coal drama! Nice shots, good pace and for some reason 4 seasons in one day! Have to love British weather - no really, you HAVE to.
Definitely one of your best yet. Loved the artistic camera angles etc., KNowing the S&W as I do I felt for your coal search and, whilst too late to be of help, kept saying 'pull in at a bridge and walk to the villages where you will find coal, launderettes and food a plenty." Sorry.
Thanks Olive. Yes I mean I am always looking at my maps and just kept pushing on to the next place I should easily be able to pick up coal (ie a marina) but just like with my scratch card I was just unlucky!
Should have stopped at Penkridge Robbie and headed to the Horse and Jockey on the high street for a nice well priced pint of Butty Bach. Theres a farmers market there that sells coal and also a Coop that sells 10kg bags of Braziers smokless for a fiver. Hope to see you on the cut some time . Keep on cranking !!.
You should have knocked when you moored in front of me in Penkridge. I would have given you a bag of Excel. I had one spare. For next time you're in Gailey, walk down that road to the junction. There is a great little shop that sell everything, including coal. £7.00 for 25kg last time I was there. ATB. Gillian :)
Thanks David - yes I find the hops give me a headache whilst drinking them? Although strangely Deya’s Into the Haze IPA is one of my favourite craft beers
A brilliant video indeed, a lot of local scenery which I am very familiar with and enjoy seeing them in decent weather and from a boat makes it even better 👌👌.
That's a great little outdoor pub you created. I wish I had been walking the tow path when you opened for business. Hope you find coal soon and have enough fuel to get warmed and make it through the night.
We had a similar thing happen in the building trade first lockdown. Couldn't get a bag of plaster anywhere, people were selling it for £60 a bag on Ebay when it should be £7. I hope you're well stocked up on coal now Robbie.
We were able to stop off at The Boat - just before lockdown - they do awesome Indian food! Looking forward to cruising there just before Christmas - hope the waterways open up again.
Your search for coal reminds me of a time when I was flying my 4-seater aircraft across country a few years back (when LORAN was still being used, GPS was uncommon in small planes, and phones most definitely did not have GPS). When I arrived at my planned fuel stop, it was after they had left for the day and no one was around... After looking around for a bit and not finding anyone, I noticed that the gas pump was left unlocked, so I filled up and left a note on their door saying how many gallons that I had pumped, that I appreciated that they left the pump unlocked, and that I would call when I got back to Houston and they could charge my credit card number. I had heard of airports that would do that in more rural places (like this one), but never encountered it. My other choice was to camp with my aircraft overnight and feed the mosquitoes which I didn't particularly want to do... I called them when I got back and thanked them for being the trusting sorts and gave them my credit card number... They laughed and said that it was left unlocked by accident...
Nice one Robbie. Not so great cruising weather, hunt for coal a no no, but the highlight of the day pub of the boat and some great video footage. Take care pal and keep safe..
Great to see you again. T R R A I N, beautiful colours, cranking - sorry cracking - shots and editing though I admit I was expecting home brew for Pub of the Week !!! Cheers Robbie great vlog.
Robbie, Aldi stocked smokeless coal in 10 kg bags for £3.99 from 5th Nov. Maybe some stores still have stock close to your location. Worth checking out in the future. Any plans to be shown again on the BBC?

Thanks that’s so good to hear really appreciate it 🤓👍
A pint of inaugural for the first drink at the pub of the week....ha, brilliant....very funny vlog this one !
One of the longest stretches without services for boaters. At least you can go to Aldi, near Stafford (Bridge 98). Tixall Wide is the best mooring on that stretch.
You have the best narrow boat vlog in UK. All the best from Canada.
Thanks that’s very kind of you
Oh dear! No coal. Rain. Cold. And then everything changes and you're happy again. But still no coal. Lovely video Robbie. Enjoy your lagers.
Robbie, even freezing your balls off and getting rained on so mercilessly, I envy your lifestyle. Great to watch. Cheers. David O'. 👏👏
The ending was genuinely one of THE best Partridge impersonations I have ever seen. Textbook. Great vlog Robbie.
Good fun on the Naughtie Lass with pub. Your filming skill is amazing. Feels like being there.
This was one of our favourite vlogs. The "Alan Partridge " style joke at the end killed us. 😂😂😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it 😂👍
Seeing The Boat takes me back. As a lad we used to stop there sometimes when we visited Penkridge market. This was back in the 80s. Happier times.
Hey Robbie. Sending you warm hugs, beers & Sheffield love. Rog X
Cheers Rog hope you and the hounds are doin well

You’re welcome Paul glad you enjoyed it!
This was almost certainly your best ever vlog Robbie - full of interesting & different camera angles & some great humour. Well done sir ! 😎👍👍
Ah thanks Stephen it was certainly one of the most laborious to edit! Cheers!
hello i agree i have see just the half for now but hey adventures action suspense and i still dont know if you found some coal at the end (no no dont said it to me )
Nice bit of Partridge to finish.
Seeing you struggle to get coal makes me appreciate our local fuel boat all the more. Really like the innovative camera positions.
Great to see you again Robbie.

Jeff
Thanks Jeff unfortunately I was out of range of all the fuel boats and Bourne boats were closed too I think? I didn’t see the sign anyway
Nice to see that my boat is still afloat in Stafford Boat Club..
Yay, the old music! Awesome.
The film making was a work of art.
Ahh cheers there’s a lot I could have done better but thank you!!
This was my favourite vid - what more could you want beer , boats , great scenery and a mint place to moor up , oh I won't mention the hunt for coal - nice one Robbie 👍
I really like all the different camera angles and the music sequences...very interesting look at the canal life!
Love the sign 'please pass at tick over or my wife will turn into a frog!' lol
Crash, bang, wallop - what a video! 😀 Absolutely brilliant and great to see Pub of the Week too.
Thanks mate good to hear from you hope you’re well!
Love the sound of your engine!
😎👍
Great video you cheered me up pub of the week is my favourite bit stay safe
Very nice scenic and edit work..! Makes morning coffee here on the Ohio River a joy. And yes, we are looking for coal also...
think its time for a diesel burner stove. 😂 Craft Beer, Boats, helicopters & trains in one spot. Living the life of Reilly.
I don't get a notice for this video. Shame on UA-cam!

Ah cheers Mark I’m sure you will one day, everyone should get the chance to try it out that’s what I think anyway!
Thanks, Robbie. As always I've enjoyed riding along with you on Naughty Lass. Keep safe my friend. All the best. Stephen.
The Naughty Lass pub rocks. Beautiful scenery & trains for entertainment-original.
... loved the pub ...peace out ...the shot of the full sun but could not even see it was memorable ... only can see those from England eh ? ...
WHEW!! A narrow pub
Loving the new pub of the week
Great watch, really liked some of the camera angle ideas 👍
This very much made me smile, thank you!
Mooring where you did ( looks to be just short of Walton bridge ?) brought back many good memories of my time living near there and walking along the canal in both directions. Thanks for posting!
Yep Walton bridge 104 well spotted!
LOL the end.
Staffordshire canal has many fond memories for me, makes me want to go back that way.
Seeing you pour that beer - now I definitely want a pint...
Despite the fraught quest for coal, some very inspired photography there! Also, England is beautiful even when it's smelly.
All I can say is a big 👍 good Vid!
17:48 Pub Of The Week.😊😊😊.This week has an excellent selection of lagers.😊😊😊.
My uncle took me along this stretch of the cut last month. Absolutely loved it and seeing the familiar sights and boats brings the 7 days back!
Have not watched yet, that is for later. You may get nominated as Pub of the week 😂 Cannot wait to see your pool table 😂🤣
Looks cold there Robbie!!!
Thanks for the nod there Robbie! 🔥 Loved it! 👍 Sounded like a bit of Death In Vegas inspired tunage....😀👍❤️
You’re welcome oh yeah maybe!
Nice Pub of the Week! You're hilarious, Robbie. Thanks for the laughs, and good luck with everything!
You’re welcome!! 🍻
Somebody has to win! Might as well be you!
Outstanding video, one of your best. Keep on cranking!

Well. We all know what Robbie is getting for Christmas now don't we LOL
Apparently it still is. I'm an old lady. I know everything.
Keep um coming fella!

Hate that feeling of running out of coal and the worry of not getting any in time. And I live in a house 😁
BP garage will always av u over 😮
