@@valeriehancotte-galan4790 The minute the tiny home communities are built, there are people who will stop paying rent, quit work, give into their urges etc. Simply because of the safety net provided.
There are plenty of resources available for most people who WANT to get off the street to actually get off the street. Yes, the system could be better, but another giant safety net is not what society needs.
Pedro could be living in a low income apartment collecting Social Security, and getting food assistance and Medicare right now. There is no reason he HAS TO sleep in the park.

Helping to build your own home gives security and self worth. Some people, especially women, are living on only $500 a month social security. After paying one third of your income for low-income rent, there's no car, no money to cover much if anything... people become stuck. When they can't go out and be social, depression sets in. A very high incidence of suicide is prevelent in those over 50 who are low-income. Our government gives BILLIONS and our churches give MILLIONS overseas. We MUST take care of Americans first. 80% of women over 65 are living in POVERTY in the U.S.!!!

I was recently homeless for over two years, a 61 year old woman with heart problems, unable to work anymore, forced to survive on $388 state disability each month (half went to a small storage unit) for two years until I got my social security, which is way below poverty level. This man is speaking the truth for many homeless. Not drug addicts or alcoholics, Americans who worked their whole lives, thrown out like trash, while the rest of the world walks by like you are not even there. People do yell at you, threaten you, attack you. Being homeless is a very dangerous, hard way to live. Basic survival takes all you have just to make it to another day. To have dry blankets, food, water, necessities. Homeless crisis in every state in our country. America could do better to care for it’s citizens. Much, much better. I did not get one night in the shelter in over eighteen months on the waiting list. Their maximum occupancy is 19 and there are over 300 counted homeless people here, plus many more too. God IS all we have in the darkness. I hold you in my prayers. 🙏

Some have serious things that have happened to them in their lives and this is how they cope. This is the longest he has stayed in a rehab and he is doing so good. Also not all rehabs are created equal. Some are just plain garbage, only there to collect the state money. I took the stance of tough love with him and had not allowed him in my home for over 6 years.. Your stereotype of the homeless is ignorant, arrogant and disgusting. Many of these people are disabled and have no family to help them. Many worked their whole lives and paid taxes on everything. I don't know where you get your dollar figures from but there is nothing more important in this world then helping the most vulnerable. Many things are genetic. I know a family that is in their sixties, the oldest just died at 72. The mother of these adults died from ALS 57 years ago. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Everyone of these 5 adults worked their whole lives and were not homeless. There are only 2 of the 5 adults left. Two died from inheriting ALS and one from cancer. They all supported each other when they were healthy and when they became sick and died. Not everyone is so fortunate to come from such a family. Genetics are everything be it ALS, mental illness and an infinite number of inherited deadly genes and diseases. You are being so self-righteous and know nothing about the human condition. One day you could be one of these people. @@ValisFan3

It's very expensive to be poor. Here's some examples. If you are wealthy or have more money, you can afford to invest in something like real estate or in the stock market which involves risk, if you have a lot of money to begin with, that risk is not as devastating. If you don't have a lot of money, you can lose everything. So you know you really think twice or more than twice about investment which is actually where wealth can be built. Another example is and this is really odd, but if you have health insurance, the hospital for example has contracts with insurance companies where they actually pay them quite a bit less than the actual charge. If you don't have health insurance because you can't afford it because the premiums are really high, they're like 700 a month. That's what mine was before I got on Medicare, if you don't have insurance, you have to pay the full amount. Wow, right? Here's one more example. If you have plenty of money you can afford to take advantage of stock up sales, buy bulk or large amounts all at once and sit on them until you need them. Poor people can't do that. They're busy just barely getting the basic necessities if that. There are many, many reasons we are in this situation, including the income inequality that has been growing over the last 50 years through deregulation of corporations, and the reduction of taxes on the wealthy and increased loopholes. But another reason is because we are not taught how to invest. We are not taught financial education. I know I was not. So we don't really know how to do it. Wealthy people can hire advisors and professionals that know how to invest. Poor people cannot. They are busy just trying to get by which takes all their energy, poverty also causes crime, hopelessness despair. It's not good for anybody. It erodes society from the bottom up. It's not sustainable at some point. I expect we will come to a point where France was in the late 18th century. Heaven forbid but it's not there yet but we are headed that direction with the vast inequality that is getting worse

We can't have people walking around and pooping on the streets, yelling at and attacking people, etc. There's help available for those who are interested in or mentally able to get it. Just live in a car and join a gym $10/month for showers and internet with money from panhandling, get food at shelters, and nobody's really going to give you any problems. It's a rough life and it shouldn't have to come to that, but it's better than being out in the open on the streets.

I took a 60 mile drive to our County seat, three years ago, there’s only two gas stations & a dollar store along the way, the entire Hwy was littered with traps, tents, & litter. Quite shocking to see folks trying to survive where the only thing that thrives is rice fields.

If a person is homeless, they should automatically get at least an 8x8 room and shared kitchen and bathroom. Give them a smaller check then, but make sure they have a permanent room, food stamps and a comfort allowance for every homeless person.
There should not be people living on the streets

My story runs very parallel with his..... I am a 59 year old chronic alcoholic, 15 rehabs, destroyed the ones I loved and anyone that tried loving me!!
The only difference between myself is the fact that I have finally accepted responsibility for the situation I have put myself in!!
The guilt, shame and remorse creates a depression that is paralyzing. So... I am homeless and unemployed... It is hard for us old alcoholics to get employment and a fresh start.. therefore it is easier to leave family and anyone who cared or cares alone.. people like me have put them through too much..
I am one hundred percent a believer of reaping what we have given in life..
So... Its easier to just go away in life at our age and maybe we don't wake up!!

Same situation here in Canada. There are more homeless, people are hurting and rents for a one bedroom here range between 1200 and 2000 dollars. Politicians do not care, yet we let millions of foreigners in and give everything free to them. Where i live, i go to a soup kitchen every day. I was talking to the guy that runs it and he says they feed over 300 people a day and have to turn others away as they run out of food donations. This nation is broken and the politicians do not care about us citizens. Im 65 yrs old and the Canada i grew up in the 60's and 70's was a paradise compared to today. Everyday at 65 my bodily functions are failing. The very idea that he's aged 65, street homeless in the rain and being forced to constantly move about is more painful than I can imagine. Add to that being thrown in jail for being homeless at age 65. Paying bail, restitution, probation fee's, drug tether & other court costs while living homeless, old, living in extreme poverty reveals our callous insanity! If rents were affordable less people would be out on the streets when they experience a hard change of circumstances (losing their house, job, spouse ect.) Usually rent is the same price as a mortgage...because when you become a renter you are now paying SOMEONE ELSES mortgage. And these greedy landlords don't care, because to them it's an InVEsTMeNT, and they could care less about your need to have a place you can call HOME. They just want your $$$ and YOU will pay for their investment to profit them so they don't have to pay for it themselves. They want $$ for expending as little energy as possible...it's called passive income, and they are proud of stepping on people like rungs on a ladder to achieve their desired goals Seems like they don't even realize they should be ashamed of themselves for the part they played in driving up housing costs, making homeownership unattainable for so many. But because they have no conscience, they feel no shame for the part they played in the deterioration of our society as a whole.

I worked for 21 years. I planned my family and waited to have children so we would be financially sound. I retired at 38 to have my 2nd child because my husband’s career took off and we could afford it. We split when our baby was 7 months and my first was 5. I went back to work but my baby was sick every 5 weeks for a year so I quit. I was very fortunate to be able to be a stay at home mom and get child support and Alimony. I planned on going back again when my kids were in middle school. Unfortunately my mom got dementia so I took care of her and carpooled kids So I didn’t go back to work. When she died I was 55 and no one wanted me in my industry. I then moved in with my niece to take care of her kids because she got divorced. My child support ended. I’m now on SS but I took it at 62 so I got penalized $700. There is no way I could afford to live on my own now. I live in CA and rent starts at $2800. When I lived on my own divorced it was $1900 in 2010. I could be homeless in a second. My kids are still too young for me to live with them. My youngest is 18

This guy looks to be coping okay. I can surely at least cope too.

@thunggiap1806 That's not a bad shout. I'm from the UK and the state pension will be far lower than 1500 dollars a month. It's less than £1000 sterling just now, though going up. But still doable. 300 dollars is less than the 345 pounds sterling I pay now.
      Thanks for the suggestion.

Doesnt this man get social security? I have known at least 5 people who are homeless. Not one are drug addicts nor alcoholics. All lost their jobs for whatever reason and then😊 their homes. Then the streets hit you and u have nothing. Take around belongings in a trash bag or push it in a cart. Scared if u are a female. Rape is first reason. Being beaten with rape is frightening to all women on the streets. Never seeing your kids and family is another. My daughter made it out of this situation. Luckily her section,8 came through just as my landlord said she had to leave after Thanksgiving. My neighbor here helped her with a thousand dollars towards rent. We couldn't

I am so grateful for this bus in which my whole world depends. I am one malfunction away from the street myself and the money I get for disability allowance won't last to the 15th. The city expects me to drive around if I can't afford to go camping at a campground. There are roving bands of psychopaths hunting homeless and the news has the gall to lable them vigilantes. I always didnfall beteeen the cracks with my autism but I was necer irresponsible, sloppy, addictive, loud or negligent. I just am too disabled to support myself.
