- The Larapinta Trail series of videos details our 230km trek West to East from Redbank Gorge to Alice Springs over 19 days in May/June 2024. This video includes footage from Section 7 - Serpentine Gorge to Ellery Creek North. We went swimming in the freezing waters of the big hole, saw dingo tracks and had ice on our tent in the morning!
Day 1: LTTS transport to Redbank Gorge.
Day 2: Section 12: Mount Sonder (Sunset)
Day 3: Section 11: Redbank Gorge to Hill Top Lookout
Day 4: Section 11 and Section 10: Hill Top Lookout to Ormiston Gorge
Day 5: Section 9: Ormiston Gorge to Waterfall Gorge via Mount Giles Lookout.
Day 6: Section 9: Waterfall Gorge to Serpentine Chalet Dam
Day 7: Section 8: Serpentine Chalet Dam to Serpentine Gorge
Day 8: Section 7: Serpentine Gorge to Ellery Creek North
Day 9: Section 6: Ellery Creek North to Rock Gulley
Day 10: Section 6: Rock Gulley to Hugh Gorge
Day 11: Section 5: Hugh Gorge to Fringe Lilly Creek (Huge Gorge Water Crossing)
Day 12: Section 5: Fringe Lilly Creek to 4/5 Junction (Birthday Waterhole) via the Razorback
Day 13: Section 4: 4/5 Junction to Brinkley Bluff
Day 14: Section 4: Brinkley Bluff to Standley Chasm
Day 15: Section 3: Standley Chasm to Jay Creek
Day 16: Section 2: Jay Creek to Mulga Camp
Day 17: Section 2: Mulga Camp to Simpsons Gap
Day 18: Section 1: Simpsons Gap to Wallaby Gap
Day:19: Section 1: Wallaby Gap to Telegraph Station/Alice Springs
I'm impressed by how good these walk tracks are right out in the middle of Australia! By gee, that water sounded cold! Lovely scenery. 👍❤
In all my travels around the world nothing compares to the hiking in Australia! Mostly the beauty and remoteness. I don't tend to see other people on my hiking trips. Aside from family/friends it was what I missed most when living abroad.
Was the water colder than hugh gorge?
Hugh Gorge was a lot colder in the water but warm once we got out on the rocks. It was colder out on the sands of the big hole due to the high winds but the water was warmer
