Not a favorite of mine either, but its still good. I'm pretty sure the concept behind this albun was basically "can we _not_ do a concept album this time? Im kinda sick of it" as well as no electric instruments, excluding the bass sometimes. They initially wanted to release Nonagon Infinity at this time, but it wasn't done yet. The Bitter Boogie has the word "Boogie" in the title, which automatically makes it a banger, and Trapdoor is easily the most Gizzard song on the album. Other than that, the rest of the songs are pretty good. The outro is contains a melody from every previous track, and to me kind of feels like the credits to whatever TV show the album art is depicting. Speaking of credits, their only former member, second drummer Eric Moore, is credited on this album with "nothing". This is inckuded in this albums Wikipedia article.
This is one of my favorites, and the opening track Sense is the one I get the best response from when I try to introduce new people to gizz! That clarinet is so good, it's too bad they switch it for guitar when playing live.
i love every king gizzard record but gumboot soup is my fave album ever but since u didn't like the softness of Paper mache that much im worried that ur gonna roast the hell out of gumboot(there are some heavy gizz sounds) but hey as long as ur listening to king gizzard ur gonna have fun
My thoughts on Gumboot Soup are interesting. My reaction to it won't be coming out for a while, but you can see my current thoughts on it (as well as all King Gizz albums) on my Album of the Year page
Make sure you like and sub if you haven't, we're on our way to 2k!

This is my personal favourite King Gizzard album along with Sketches of Brunswick East. I really prefer the more accoustic stuff.
