Chisel have been blowing us away for 40 years. They seemed to catch the very essense of aussie life in their lyrics. Best aussie band ever. I first saw them live at Narrara 83, 4 am after aussie crawl. Boy oh boy did they put on a gig to remember.

It amazes me that 'a' person decided to get this on film. Otherwise this would not be a recorded part of history.

They broke up because at the time there was a lot of volatility between band members, particularly between Jimmy and drummer, Steve Prestwich, and they just felt they weren't able to continue giving fans their best. Basically, they felt they had achieved all that they could. They reformed in the late 90s and have continued producing great songs. I was lucky enough to see them live when they reformed for the Yakuza Girls tour, and was directly in front of Mossy for the whole concert. He was sweating profusely after just two songs and the whole concert was brilliant.

Barnesy doesn't scream just as Tina Turner and Joe Cocker didn't scream. Maybe its not for you. I agree Ian Moss has in many ways a better voice, but plenty of singers have that growl and howl such as Billy Thorpe and there is many others. Barnsey went through a period where his voice wasn't that great but he sorted that shit out. I think he is the best he has been now since the 1980's.

Love Ian Moss's version of this song. I have listened to this myself on repeat on many an occasion. He generally sings with a Blues style 💜
Other Mossy songs from Cold Chisel to listen to would be "Saturday night" and "Janelle".

I was just a kid in early 80's so they broke up before I even really knew music. Although when I did consciously start to listen to music, Cold Chisel songs played by people older than me, really drew me in, especially hearing their live stuff like this. I wish they were still around as I grew up in the 80's but still could listen to their music. Jimmy Barnes had his solo career and Ian Moss his. All the band members went different ways and did not stop making music. I even went and saw Ian Moss live and Jimmy Barnes in late 80's when I was old enough to go. I eventually did see them in early 2000's as the got back for some live tours as a band and new album, but they would also still do their own careers. Ever since the early 20000's they got back together in studio to do a two or three albums and when they do that, they tend to have a tour afterwards. I've seen them three times in the 2000's. Sadly only once with original drummer, Steve Prestwhich. He sadly passed away at one of their more recent albums. I saw a concert soon after that which was kind of bitter sweet without him but they did him justice on that tour and the drummer they had since is really good too. I think before Co-Vid they were doing a tour but I missed it.
Sadly, the new drummer lost his wife to sickness in the last decade too.
I never knew until recently his wife was Chrissy Amphlett, lead singer of The Divinyls.
    Small world.
Back to Cold Chisel, think this footage from a movie made of their last concert series in those early 80's.
I remember it was called The Last Stand. This footage was probably not released on the original video film but I assume this was an extra in some DVD anniversary addition decades later.
Fantastic performance by Ian Moss with wonderful piano back up via Don Walker.
As someone that grew up hearing their music, it was always Cold Chisel to me whether, Jimmy Barnes or Ian Moss were the lead singer it never mattered to me. All that matters, was I enjoyed the music.
It interesting to hear their albums from the 2000's or late 70's and find, it does not matter what decade or how old they are, they just have amazing chemistry as a band.

Why did Cold Chisel break up?
It is apparent how important it was for Cold Chisel to end their career on their own terms. Despite being at the height of their success and popularity, they felt they were not giving the fans their best and didn't want to continue on that path.

Georgia On My Mind” became the Georgia state song on April 24, 1979, when Gov. George Busbee signed it into law. The song was written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell in 1930 and became a major hit with Ray Charles in 1960.

No such thing as a silly question, just a silly answer. Yes, I was there. A brilliant concert, like every time we've seen them between 1978 and 2022. The Cold Chisel Wikipedia article explains the break-up and reformation. There were lots of issues, but they grew up and got over it and eventually got back together,, but by then Jimmy Barnes's solo career had taken off, so they get together every few years, do an album and a tour and then go back their separate ways again. It seems to work for them. Thanks for finally finding Chisel. Most of us in Australia have never understood why they were not better known back in the day. Better late then never.

I'd suggest that this took so long to be seen due to the following: 1. It was a private, unsanctioned video; 2. Ian and Don performed this as a "filler", while the other band members took a little break; 3. The song is not a Cold Chisel song or collaboration... therefore it was an unofficial addition to the gig, and therefore not filmed for the official video. Keep it up guys, you are so refreshing... where did Domenica pick up her use of the Aussie word "crikey"?

@@johnpeters4084 Maybe because the cameramen was unaware of what was about to happen/didn't know the song, so he stopped filming until a minute or two into it. Then they could dub the audo that WAS recorded to the footage with the extra titles at the start to cover up the filming that was missed. If it had been filmed in it's entirety, it probably would have made it onto the original Last Stand release on VHS.
Also, there were no other cameras on it seems, so maybe they didn't want to put out the song with no footage of Don Walker (who was also brilliant in this)

As an Aussie teen I had no idea how spoiled I was. I thought Cold Chisel was very average, ordinary rock music, and John Farnham was very average, ordinary pop music. In the 1980s and 90s, when I struck out on my own from the communal music listening in the house (My parents were playing opera, classical, the Beatles, Stones, and Dire Straights, all of which I still love) I personally listened to Pink Floyd and the earliest House and electronic dance music. It took youtube reactors like yourself to teach me the talent and value, the beauty in Cold Chisel, it's band members, and John Farnham and his usual suspects.
