- Sega Megadrive (Genesis) inspired dungeon synth track with Gregorian chanting and analog synthesizers, with a touch of Berlin School synth, added Sonic the Hedgehog sample for the irony.
I also used a Roland Sh-d4 and JD-XI in this, was going to add the Emu II Shakuhachi flute sample, as made famous by Enigma and Peter Gabriel's 'Sledgehammer' but sounded like overkill, so replaced it with a simple flute stab. I will find a use for that shakuhachi sampler sound one day....
Haven't gone full SID chip yet, but going to give that a go soon in conjunction with a Yamaha DX7, because the DX7 is basically the link between Sega Megadrive and Depeche Mode.
Next genre on my list is chiptune, and it seems old school-trackers are the way to go with that, no luxury of real time sequence recording, but that's how you get the choppy, crunchy sound along with a bit-crusher.
And this is better than 99% of the Dungeon Synth artists? Really? Sounds more like some kind of Vaporwave, rather than Dungeon Synth...
My plan was to challenge myself to make a dungeon synth track, but I guess other elements got in there too. I'm more of a prog/IDM/Berlin School kind of guy overall.
