I live in Bath and can tell you Jean brightens up this city no end! she's a breath of fresh air and I have always been in awe of her and her tremendous style...the programme didn't mention that her portrait was painted years ago and hung in Londons National Gallery!!
I thought this was an awe inspiring programme, I loved all the women featured here, all who gave me positivity to be myself. I love clothes and have often worried that at almost 78 I was too old to wear them, but not any more.
Jeanette my dear, you are far away from beeing to old for anything. My late husband was 18 years younger than I, and the whole city was shocked. Today one and the other lady tells me, that she was very jelous , me having fun and joy with that beautiful younger ma. Ladies, all of you everywhere, do what ever you want, it makes YOU happy! 🐞 to you!
Now go out and get something to wear that makes your soul fly, smile, and feel happy! It’s the only way to live! Who cares what others think about you. The only people who count in our lives are the people who love us, and they should always want whatever makes you glow!🌸💗🌸
I loved watching this video, I’m 59 years old and I’m on the threshold of turning 60. This video has done more for me in 40 minutes than I’ve had on weeks. I am going to dress how I want to not boring and dull.
I'm 70 and absolutely adore these women. I'm upcycling all my wardrobe and my hair. I like to do things naturally but I want to colour my hair purple lol
Just happened on this, sort of ignoring stuff that I 'need' to do....and being 81....this was just what was needed to reinforce my 'attitude' and caring about 'looking' as good as possible when I leave the house..wish more thought like these ladies. Life is good and we should embrace it and enhance it! Could not have come at a better time for me...thank you!!!

I'm 80, have stage 4 breast cancer, heart failure, Parkinson's, and a few other health issues. I don't let any of them get me down. I find life very exciting and challenging so I have no wish for that long dirt nap. But I know the day will come, and like these ladies, I just hope it is swift and while I'm asleep. Meanwhile, I plan to have as much fun as I can.
Well, this video came along exactly when I needed it! Pretty much my entire adult life, my friends have referred to my clothing collection as "the Rocky Horror closet." I'm 61 now, and i was just thinking I need to "tone down" on the youthful styles. I have a ton a beautiful and amazing dresses and fun clothes that I was getting ready to put away and probably get rid of. Not now! Thank you ladies, you have given me back my courage to rock my awesome clothes! P.S. Most of them are either from costume stores or charity shops.

These Ladies are amazingly beautiful. I am a 67 year old dancer who takes ballet classes/week, and these ladies are truly inspiring for me to continue.
I'll be 71 in april 2024 . I can so identify with these women. Age is but a number. I think of it as middle age if at all lol . And I wear what I want and have no health issues and don't plan to get old or have bad health . Much love to all the women here . You obviously have never needed to be inspired by anyone, but equally you are incapable of realising not everyone is you.
Some of those people from Vogue are caught up in stereotypes - I think any one of these women would be fabulous and shake up some tired notions! All of them have such beauty.
Yes! I read Vogue and I'm 73 but feel 33! Outrageous they politely dissed her. They need to open their eyes and see that there are more women over 50 than ever! Let's revolt!
I completely agree with your comment, they seem stuck in the past. Chasing youth and their perception of beauty and what women should be. A feature with a cover of these ladies would have been a knockout. Vogue move into 2024. These ladies are totally amazing and this video shows that with honesty and respect.
I am currently 72 years old and I love clothes. Because I have not been well for the past three years I don’t go out a lot but anytime I walk out of the house. I consciously select what I’m going to wear. Mostly by intuition I just didn’t want this video to end. It was so wonderful.
Each one of these ladies is a gem. I'm in my 60's and I've never felt more beautiful in my life. I do yoga, keep my weight in check, and don't compromise my self anymore. I hope to be just as inspiring in my old age as they are.
There are two very important lessons in this film. #1: It is vital to know whose opinions truly matter, and, just as important, whose opinions do not matter. #2: Have a reason to go on, to get out of bed. A motivation to be alive. These are two things that are important at any age, but for most of us, it takes a lifetime to remove the superficial layers, to reveal the solid bedrock of our souls.
I absolutely love what you said here, im 59 and will turn 60, “The solid bedrock of our souls”. I love that…and removing superficial layers. Yes, I completely understand that too.
@@citygirlingraham Thank you! I wish that I could claim, completely, the concept as my own, but, in truth, there is a long line of influence, from the authors Sir Terry Paycheck and Quentin Crisp to many other sources so far back in my past that it's all a hazy mist. But then, that's life, isn't it? We encounter something that, like flint on steel, strikes a spark in us, then it is up to us to nurture that spark that grows into a flame that warms our soul.
I watched this TWICE IN A ROW! Absolutely mindblowing. These women are absolutely fabulous. SUCH an inspiration. Of course they all are lucky to be so so so mentally sharp.....this is what makes all the difference and this is unfortunately not given to all of us. What I noticed is that 4 of the 6 had superslim bodies. I think that does definitely play a role in how they maintained their physical AND their mental vitality. I am going to do more of what these women do daily from now on.
Having taken early retirement, this gives me hope for at least 25 years of excitement! I currently have a single lock of purple hair, wear a lot of pink, purple and lime green and plum coloured lipstick.
Baroness Trumpington died aged 96, never dieted, never exercised. Her mind stayed agile till the end. All these women had a good upbringing and great genes, though, they also seem to have kept their own teeth.
I've danced my whole life, then my health went. After surgery, I am now taking ballet again, relearning how to do what I love. I have a second lease on life at 60, when I was already determined to be disabled and never dance again...
Lordy, I'm 70 and don't even get out of my pj's. These women I think are amazing and must have lived full and exciting lives to continue on with such Spirit...more power to them!
How has this not gotten a million views yet? This feature video is fabulous!!! I'm so happy to have come across this now which happens to be women's month. This is so inspiring. These women are paving the way to the old but not quite seen and believed ideology that the age is no match to the spirit. Being 80 and above doesn't mean you have to be old on your rocking chair. It's about keeping your spirit youthful without being childish. It's about not stopping life just because you are a certain age. It's about living and living fully no matter the age. I'm going to start exercising now coz they make me so ashamed about how agile they are compared to me and I'm only 47. I'm really amazed and inspired by how they maximize their lives. ❤️
This is truly one of the most marvelous documentaries I have ever watched, and I'm so very thankful to have found it! All of these women were inspirational, stylish, charming, full of warmth & humor, and beautiful souls, inside and out! Each of the women has such tremendous, uplifting, and storied lives! Beautifully told!
Thank you for bringing us these lovely women! I’m 74, still practicing law. Now, I am in “ Spring Training,” swimming 2000 yards 5x week. I love to travel, to be with my grands, and have lovely fun with friends- theatre, walking, biking. I am grateful to be 74 and to feel vital and alive. Life is good!🙏🏼 These lovely women are exemplars of life, style, exuberance, confidence and beauty. Brava!!
Thank you so very much for this deeply moving & reflective video. Thank you for pulling back the veil on senior lifestyles, expectations, and bringing to the forefront REALITY. Happy to not see these ladies with their eyes glued to a smart phone/tablet, but living life.
LOVE THEM: Each and every one of them is a treasure!! Thank you for highlighting them in this way, it was brilliant. I enjoyed it very much and am inspired by them to pick myself up, quit feeling sorry for myself that I’m no longer the beauty I was at 25 and go on to enjoy myself where I am now instead.
This was so good to watch. I am 58, working my career. Bored with it. These ladies remind me that I have a while to keep myself fit and happy. Just may like to do things a little different. Stay engaged. I just feel tired of engaging sometimes.
What an inspiration! I live in an outdoorsy western city (after 50 years in Manhattan.) Most everybody here looks like they are about to go on a hike. In contrast, I dress every day as if I'm going to a special event and it amuses and pleases folks who come up to me and comment on my Mohawk and look -- I think it brightens their day after seeing all these murky earth tones. This story inspires me to go even further -- got to give it some thought to dress with more even pizzazz!
Your comment made me laugh because because all the women in my city (in Massachusetts) dress like they're on the way to a yoga class, all day every day. Baseball caps on women weren't in style while I was growing up. Lolol! Even when I dress casually I still feel overdressed where ever I go because I'm not in work out gear. Haha! These women in the video inspire me too, as I'm sure you inspire people where you live to rethink the hiker look.
@@writersloane Thanks for your reply. Daily, I am approached by folks who appreciate my style. I dress to please myself and to entertain others. And as I live in a university town there are many thrift stores in which to get some really interesting clothes for cheap -- when I tire of them I donate them back -- then they launder them and resell them -- it's like clothing rental -- lots of fun. And unlike my days in Manhattan I almost never wear black anymore.
What inspiring women these are! Loved hearing everyone of their stories. I’m 68, have had hip replacementments in both hips and survived bowel cancer, and I value every day and refuse to let age interfere with my life!
What a shame more people have not watched this video! Older women (and men) should feature much more prominently in the media. After all, the lucky among us will one day be old.
These women are so inspirational. I am 68 and determined to keep my good health and to do things that make me happy like travelling and regular get together with friends. As our populations age, I see a real need for something more than glossy magazines like Vogue that views itself as inspirational - but it’s obvious their target market is largely younger people. There should be a magazine for older women - everyday women, those with an inspirational life, gifted women who have had or are still enjoying interesting lives. Advertisers should court this older age group given many are well and willing to spend. Come on ladies, time is of the essence!
I'm right behind you, ladies. I am so proud of my thrift store treasures - the kids have no idea what's valuable or why - and I find wool, cashmere, linen clothes and hand made leather bags (no logo, so a mystery for the kids) for a steal... At 63, I still wear leggings and mini skirts and lots of color- I gave up my car and I walk/bus everywhere. I'm in great shape and nothing like my mother and grandmothers, who all gave up at the age of 50 and became old women. They can keep their old lady ideals and their pharmaceuticals for themselves!
Its been a years since this jewel of a documentary came out, i stumbled into it today. The best documentary i have seen in a long time. Love each and every one of these amazing women. Thank you so much!
I think it brings such wonders to bring light to the world no matter your age. I love fashion as well and these ladies have given me inspiration as well to dress of my own style. Thanks in advance appreciate all of you.
@kati1017 I am no fashionist, but I do admire a free spirit. Above all nowadays, when the elderly people are considered to be of no use for the society. This group breaks boundaries and live how they want to.
@@monaminas it's unbelievable how little value is given to elderly wisdom. One experiment brought inner city kids to a nursing home to do their homework and they flourished under the care and help of the precious elders... Beneficial to both! 🥲
I LOVE these women, what an absolute inspiration they all are, after a few minutes you don't even see their age, just how inspiring they are. We're ALL going to get there if we're lucky enough, it's wonderful to see role models like this and make it something we can look forward to :)
“Im not going in the scrap heap”…right! I get the feeling that these women took care of themselves (especially their flexibility) to some degree and that is a huge part of vigor and beauty. People rave over my clothes (all charity shops) and style but I just find it fun. I always lay out my clothes the night before too. I’m not necessarily eccentric but I’m usually more “dressed” than others, wherever I go. I’m only 61 but I consider dignity a necessity, which includes style and fun, not the opposite! I love good style and excellent lines are indispensable for looking great. I’ve learned from many other elegant people in my life, and I’m really grateful.
Well this story was a great find. I think the most important factor these women have in common is that their brains are intact. You can fix/restore your body...new knees, new hips, but once your brain slips, that's it. Scariest potential part of aging.
" I don't give a toss!!!" Love it! Also - "Twiddle, twiddle!!😂😂😂 "I hate beige!" 😂😂😂 This video is one of the most uplifting, and fun I've seen in a long time! I need to show this to my downstairs neighbor - she just turned ninety, has a near "storage room" of clothing, and shoes, and always looks great! ( Even though she says she doesn't feel all that well...😢) I hope she is entertained by this video! ❤ ( I'll be 70 in ~ a couple of weeks) Note that those ladies keep themselves fit and limber, have a philosophy, and a purpose. (Love the lady who is working against ageism!)
I too love this doc about these fabulous women. Regarding charity shops in the UK they really are sadly much more expensive now than when this film originally came out. Inspiring film.. thanks for posting.
These women are my style icons! I wish we had women like them in America. Here, older women dress for comfort and go around in bulky sweaters, pants and sneakers. They blend in rather than stand out...such a shame when I'm sure they have a real sense of personal style but feel a need to keep it hidden. I'm 63 and my goal is to be as bold as these women.
Thanks so much, I remember this documentary first time round - must be about 10 years ago (I just looked it up and I was spot on, it debuted in 2013). How many of these fabulous old broads are still alive? Sadly I know Jean Barker, Baroness Trumpington died in 2018 at the astonishing age of 96, and choreographer Gillian Lynne (87 in this), left us the same year aged 92.
Absolutely one of the best videos on aging! I'm 76, don't feel 76 and try every day to not let 76 in! I stole that from Clint Eastwood! Lol! He was asked what it felt like to be 91, he said every day when he gets up, he doesn't let 91 in, so he doesn't know what 91 feels like....I think that statement is very appropiate to repeat for this video! None of these ladies pay a minute of attention to their ages and neither do I. Why should we conform to what society suggests where and what our place is....Don't like what I have on....don't look! Thank you to all these lovely ladies who shared their wisdom, fashion and if lucky enough to still be of reasonable health, how to put aging behind us!!
"By the time you'll have reached the 8th decade, you will have survived all the ups and downs life throws at you"! Wonderfully encouraging documentary. Thanks ! 👌🌟 I still have lots of decades to go, but I find that phrase, "to have survived all the ups and downs", already valid in my case! 👍😉 From now on all must be smoother, more kind, properous in abundance and easy going. 🙏😃
"I don't give a toss!" I'm stealing that!!! I always knew I was going to be like these ladies. I'll be 62 in 2 days. I love my blue (or magenta, or rose gold) hair and my Doc Martins. And, my 81 year old husband of 22 years loves me just as I am, tattoos and all.
Great inspirational video. Love that one of them shops mostly in charity shops and manages to look great. And i recognise the feeling that you care less about other peoples opinions, certainly about how you look. And that baroness browsing her catalogues 😉
Loved it. Interesting people remain interesting no matter how old. Actually, maybe become more and more interesting. I am 80 and don’t feel old, though I don’t look like I remember myself. But then I remind myself that it’s just the way it is and nobody looks that way. Nobody cares much except we do. I do. But I won’t be unhappy about it, it’s not worth it.
This really is something to shout about! Let’s be noticed and not overlooked - I’ve had more comments on my dress and hair in the past couple of years than I ever have. I’m 68!
All I can say is WOW these women are incredible. I applaud each and everyone of them , a purpose for living; knowing real love: keeps you young! As long as your heart is happy age doesn’t matter!
I love all these wonderful and "young at heart" ladies!! Their personality and style are amazing!! Everytime I travel to UK, I look for second hand shops, they a great!! You can find great clothes, in very good condition and clean. I take my small suitcase and several sport bags inside so I will be able to fill them up with the clothes I buy.
OK this lifted my day like you have no idea am 68 and I struggle every day but these ladies sure did boost my ego to keep on trying harder. God bless them and thank you for the video.💕
Thank you so much for your stories, all the women in this story have given me something to look forward to. You all are just beautiful and I wish you all the best to come.Thank you once again ❤❤️
What a wonderful video! These ladies are so inspiring, corageous, vital, full of life. I have always been an existentialist, a fatalist, and if my spouses goes before me, I am not sure I will have the inner and physical strenght these remakable ladies have. Bless them!

I dearly love all of these women & their stories, they are so inspiring. I am 75 & i feel younger until i see my reflection. Ugh.
Same for me I'm vain I can't help it!
It's always such a shock, isn't it?! Who IS that in the mirror?? But I earned every crease and age spot.
People’s personalities can make them much more attractive as they age when it animates their wisdom acquired along the way.
I LOVE these very powerful, inspiring, beautiful women! Thank you for this. Let’s see more! 💚
That's the spirit! Start now and work your way up to a rousing and joyous 80.
💖💗💓💞
Brava!!
Brava! Do it! Old age is not “awful,” it’s a gift if you revel in it and a curse if you decide it is.
You’re the beauty you always were at every age!
This was so good to watch. I am 58, working my career. Bored with it. These ladies remind me that I have a while to keep myself fit and happy. Just may like to do things a little different. Stay engaged. I just feel tired of engaging sometimes.
You have alllll the time to become more you!
I’m 68, have had hip replacementments in both hips and survived bowel cancer,
and I value every day and refuse to let age interfere with my life!
@@ldh4937 wow keep going. I’m pray more years for you. And constant joy
How fabulous are you girls! A great model and inspiration at any age!!!
RIP, Iris dear girl. 😢 But glad you live in here.
That's not Iris Apfel, but yes, she does resemble her.
This is fabulous! I recently turned 57 years young & am inspired by these ladies! ♥️
I’m seventy and refuse to give up my leggings or my combat boots! Or my socks with their pretty crocheted tops sticking out the top of those boots.
At 60 these ladies are an inspiration for me to live my best life. Bless them all.
Only a few minutes in this documentary and it is the most precious interviews I have seen in a while. Thank you. So much.
I wish I had their courage and energy. Well done, ladies! 👏👏👏👏
You do! Just do it! 🎉
I had tears in my eyes in sheer admiration of how strong, self-assured and beautiful these ladies are. Living life on their terms. Just wonderful!
I LOVE these women, what an absolute inspiration they all are, after a few minutes you don't even see their age, just how inspiring they are. We're ALL going to get there if we're lucky enough, it's wonderful to see role models like this and make it something we can look forward to :)
Wonderful documentary - I'm 70 and have a lot of the same feelings!
Also - "Twiddle, twiddle!!😂😂😂
"I hate beige!" 😂😂😂
This video is one of the most uplifting, and fun I've seen in a long time! I need to show this to my downstairs neighbor - she just turned ninety, has a near "storage room" of clothing, and shoes, and always looks great! ( Even though she says she doesn't feel all that well...😢) I hope she is entertained by this video! ❤
( I'll be 70 in ~ a couple of weeks)
Note that those ladies keep themselves fit and limber, have a philosophy, and a purpose. (Love the lady who is working against ageism!)
I am 58 and these ladies are real inspiration. Love them looking forward to an active and positive old age
Super fantastic, beautiful, strong, exciting women! Brava ladies!!👏👏👏💜
Loved all the lovely ladies out there. Each one is unique. Their zest for life, the energy and vitality simply amazing.
I love this! Who said we have to look "old"? This is my future! I'm looking forward to it in due time, of course.
I too love this doc about these fabulous women. Regarding charity shops in the UK they really are sadly much more expensive now than when this film originally came out. Inspiring film.. thanks for posting.
Second if not third time I've watched this, truly inspiring 😊
Inspiring! Wonderful! I turn 60 this year and feel that life can be amazing.
What a fantastic flick with fabulous women! Grateful everyday for the freedom to be ourselves!
THIS is how you do it! Too fabulous for words!
Never wear beige...it might kill you! 😂😂😂😂😂
What a word!!!
I so much loved the women in this movie, and I found it to be so inspiring.
You are all legends ladies.........and may we all follow in your footsteps and be our true selves........Bravo🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks ! 👌🌟
I still have lots of decades to go, but I find that phrase, "to have survived all the ups and downs", already valid in my case! 👍😉 From now on all must be smoother, more kind, properous in abundance and easy going. 🙏😃
I LOVE THESE WOMEN. They make me smile!
Love these 80+yr old natural, proud, courageous aging women- super inspiring, even to me in my 70’s!
Great inspirational video. Love that one of them shops mostly in charity shops and manages to look great. And i recognise the feeling that you care less about other peoples opinions, certainly about how you look. And that baroness browsing her catalogues 😉
Keep going, ladies all of you..
67 bought my last motorcycle last year Triumph Bobber 1200
Do what you can for as long as you can ❤
"Getting older is not a bad thing"...!
- love that ❤
In fact, love everything about these wonderful women.
Thank you for letting us meet them 🙏🏽
What an inspirational video. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. ❤❤❤
Wonderful show. These women are all so cool and inspiring.
beautiful and inspiring women
I’m 70 - this was the very best vid - I’ve ever seen.......
I am 65 and so much of my wardrobe I’ve had for decades….trends come and go but style goes on.
These women are inspirational.
This really is something to shout about! Let’s be noticed and not overlooked - I’ve had more comments on my dress and hair in the past couple of years than I ever have. I’m 68!
So sweet, strong, alive and young❤ Thank you Ladies🤙
Loved the whole programme thr women are amazing role models!
I'm 77 still love fashion and enjoy shopping for a bargain. My husband says I'm not like your average 77 year old! The biggest compliment 😁
All I can say is WOW these women are incredible. I applaud each and everyone of them , a purpose for living; knowing real love: keeps you young! As long as your heart is happy age doesn’t matter!
Thank you for this! At 66, I take this as my vision! 🎉
Such inspiring ladies! Such a zest for life!
Wow what an inspiring story. Loved it.
Absolutely loved this film ❤
OK this lifted my day like you have no idea am 68 and I struggle every day but these ladies sure did boost my ego to keep on trying harder. God bless them and thank you for the video.💕
Thank you so much for your stories, all the women in this story have given me something to look forward to. You all are just beautiful and I wish you all the best to come.Thank you once again ❤❤️
I am so grateful to have seen this! Brava girls! 🙂⭐🙏🏼❤
What wonderful ladies. All very different and all delightful. God Bless them all.
Love these women.. Hope I can age with their way of thinking..
Don’t hope, do it!🎉
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you. Beautiful...I am so moved...it brings tears just in the emotion of your outlook.
What a wonderful video! These ladies are so inspiring, corageous, vital, full of life. I have always been an existentialist, a fatalist, and if my spouses goes before me, I am not sure I will have the inner and physical strenght these remakable ladies have. Bless them!
