I wonder if using pvc pipe to replace the wood posts and place small holes along the pipe would help with watering? 🧐🧐 pretty sure I’m missing something in my thought process but definitely giving this a shot!! 😊
I feel your thought but I think it would create a mud puddle at the ground. If she had a pool and a pump capturing and recirculating it up the PVC, it might do good. However, most plants need a little dry time between waterings, so she'd need a timer on the pump. Hassle and more money spent.
I thought about PVC pipe as it won’t rot, but it was a higher price point, and I wanted to try this vertical system out for a ground season or two, until I’m ready to purchase a more durable system.
I didn't get my from the dollar tree, I got them at habitat, the original price was very high especially since you can get the at the dollar tree. The only difference I seen was the Bottom was connected to a pan with wheels. And I paid 15 there, but like I said the original tag was much higher. I went to the dollar tree and got a back broom stick and solar light the stick went right in and the solar light went in the top. It looks so good especially at night. There are so many different ideas. Ty for yours
There have been mentions as to the 2x2 rotting. This is true. However, you can prevent this by painting the 2x2 with several layers of exterior house paint. And to address the idea to cut a pressure treated 2x4 in half lengthwise, you will still have to paint the wood due to exposing the cut portion. The chemicals used to prevent rot only goes maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. So, save your money on the pressure treated wood. Next, using a PVC pipe slid over the 2x2 will make it so that you can turn your tower. You can make it rotate even easier if you put 2 saucers at the base with marbles sandwiched between them. Now, you've created a "lazy susan".
This was such a great video and sparked some ideas! I was thinking a roller base under the bottom layer so you can rotate the tower would be good for light distribution. I bet it wouldn’t be too hard to create a cloche or net cover if the bugs get bad with this system. You’re awesome, thanks for sharing
I love these and they are cheaper than those you buy on line. For my own taste I would spray paint them. Maybe a pale yellow, butter cream or bright blue. 😊
Thank you for this video. I stumbled on these vertical planters and snatched them up. I wanted to do the same thing by placing them on a pole, and your video show3d me how.
I love this idea Lasha!! I am going to try using a metal fence post I got from the hardware store for the center pole (my hubby's idea). I purchased 24 of these pots at the dollar store. Let's see how they work out. I plan to do 3 potting stands. Thank you!!
I just purchased 3 of them and set them up on an old plastic backyard chair. Thinking about getting a few more...I have a couple more of those chairs 😂
Just bought 20 of those myself. Great tip about the pole. I will make one small criticism, I would take the stickers off first. Looks kinda tacky. But otherwise everything else looks good. 😊
yeah. If you do it right when you buy the items, the stickers come off easily. I can't stand things with stickers on them. Takes in most cases only seconds to remove.
Lasha you saved soo much money and space.I have wanted one or two But just haven't decided on which type yet.Your DT ones look very sufficient and all the foods you can grow from both will be soo amazing TFS
Surprisingly they are holding up well. I do have to water them daily. Eventually I’ll trade them in for a self watering system, but for now, they’re serving its purpose.
New subscriber. Great use for vertical gardening. I did several stackable planters last year. I didn't set the t posts with concrete. Just removed them as I'm moving them to another location. Some of them cracked & will reuse them by doubling. Enjoy the Gardening Fun🌱
Girl, when you said Texas I thought....good luck with this idea. Tiny pots need TLC daily if not more in that Texas sun. I look forward to your plantings and care videos. New subscriber here.
My Mom would wake up early and hose spray all her garden. She really sprayed the plants hard and it seem to keep bugs from attacking and fabulous blooms. Big delicious tomatoes -- but birds even feasted with netting tried to deter them. I'm not a morning person, so my gardening is indoor only now. So, the key, hard water spray it all in the morning. Good luck. God Bless.
This is a neat idea! We are in Missouri and also have the winds, so I might really want to try this 🤗Thank you for sharing it! I know I am late to this post, but I hope to see what you planted and how it's all going
@@TexasBluebonnetHomestead Thank you I just got some today I am having my husband drill out the hole for the post. Funny thing as I was talking/telling my husband about you/your video he said she said she was this tall, and how tall you did your pole/planters?😯I said "what", did you watch my video? He said yah 🤣 So now he knows exactly what I need! Thank you, and I will also keep in mind what you said (about what I plant). What do you think about planting herbs?
Just to let all know that the 2x2 wood is going to rut and break off so if you want to use wood it be best to get presser treated 2x4 and cut it in half. But the best thing to use is a 2" PVC pipe x 8' long and dig a hole two feet deep and put the pipe in the ground then put one planter on over the pipe then mark the top of the planter then take it back off and drill 1/4 or 3/8" holes and do that for all of till you get to the hight you can ritch wine it's finished but on the top of your 2" PVC pipe you want to get a 2" to 4" reducer and put that on the top so you will have a 4" opening to pour your water in
I was so tempted to try these but skipped on them. I purchased some of those dollar tree planters and they cracked and broken half the moment I popped the little drainage holes out.
Sorry to hear that. They are prone to cracking. I placed mine on a towel before drilling and popping the holes out to prevent cracking, but over time they’ll eventually crack from the sun, since the plastic is so thin.
I believe, I may have did a backyard garden tour, but I learned a lot the first year. I would only recommend growing shallow root vegetables in these containers, such as onions, garlic, strawberries, spinach, radish, etc
How did your plants turn out? Any learnings? Recommendations? I bought a bunch and I am trying to decide what to plant in them. I hear that the pots dry out super fast....
I’m going to plant what I have on hand. I’m sure it’ll be a learning curve, since I’ve never used these before. I currently have herbs, strawberries, cucumbers, peppers, and eggplants.
Herbs & strawberries sound great. I would consider 'tom thumb' peas, beets if using for cut & come again greens, & other various salad greens. Great for dwarf & container versions of these sorts of plants.
I thought about PVC pipe as it won’t rot, but it was a higher price point, and I wanted to try this vertical system out for a ground season or two, until I’m ready to purchase a more durable system. Thanks for stopping by❤

Same thing i was thinking
I did this 2 years ago with rebar. I used the appropriate drill bit to fit over the rebar. Worked great
@TexasBluebonnetHomestead Actually pvc will degrade with exposure to the suns UV so you made the right choice with wood!
When cutting or drilling into plastic it is best if the plastic is warm or hot. It keeps it from cracking. Blow dryer, heat gun or heat up by fire.
Thanks for the tip!
Another tip is to cut in reverse! It keeps the teeth from snagging on the plastic
Love this idea. Way more cost effective than green stalks planter.

Thanks for the Tips. I haven’t thought of a base with marbles.
Growing in my green stocks, I like growing up virtually. It saves a lot of space in time.
Space is definitely a must in a small backyard.
I love the addition to your garden!! I hope to see more videos in the future, as your garden grows.
So nice of you, Thanks. I’m hoping to have a good growing season.
I love Dollar store items. Better than expected tbh.
They have great products. They just need a little TLC.
Thanks for sharing this video. Great idea for a nice tower. Have a blessed day

The roller base is a great idea. I wasn’t able to find one last season. I’ll be on the look out this year, because it would definitely come in handy.
A very brilliant idea❤️
I love these and they are cheaper than those you buy on line. For my own taste I would spray paint them. Maybe a pale yellow, butter cream or bright blue. 😊
I totally agree! They’re affordable and grow vegetables well. Butter cream would be pretty!

Love it, so many people have been doing these towers, great job, tfs
Hi Cici, thanks for stopping by. They were very affordable, and I was able to get many vegetables planted.
@@TexasBluebonnetHomestead Yes I have some for my strawberry tower
I luv the way you set up the stackables!! I'm going to follow suit and add 2 in my garden! Thanks hun :)
You are so welcome! I hope they turn out well for you.
Nice setup! BTW if you set the drill to reverse, it reduces a lot of the plastic debris
Good tip! I appreciate that.
Thanks for sharing…. Great idea using the pole❤
You’re welcome 😊 it was an affordable option that didn’t require any tools.
I already have ten of the green, but was concerned about drainage and sturdiness, I really like your idea,
Thank you very much.
You’re welcome best of luck this garden season.
I have some of these and was needing an idea. I'm going to do this in the middle of one of my beds. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! I hope it turns out well for you. I just cleaned mine and plan on using them for the Spring.
Ty for the video love it learning more about the vertical planter
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for subscribing. We experience pretty strong wind storms, so if it’s not set in place, it’s gone with the wind!💨 Lol.
Love it!

Awesome version of the DT planter towers!
Glad you like it! I love to grow in them. They’re a very affordable option.
@@TexasBluebonnetHomestead I thought I had a stack of 12 but it seems only 8. Mine were from 99 cent store several yrs ago.

What can you grow in these small pots? I want to give it a try but have no idea where to start
Great idea I have them they stack without the pole
We have pretty bad wind storms, if they weren’t set in concrete, they’d be all over the yard.
The cement seems a bit much and I would not use a wood post unless it was treated for weather. But I love your ingenuity
Thanks
I love my tiered planters. However, they dry out very quickly and will need constant watering.
Thanks for stopping by Angela! Also thanks for the tip, I’ll try and keep them watered daily. We’ll see how it goes.
Awesome! did you make a video with them full of plants? I would LOVE to see it!

can you tell me how this works long term? as in did the pole you have in the center getmoldy after a week or two
How did your plants turn out? Any learnings? Recommendations? I bought a bunch and I am trying to decide what to plant in them. I hear that the pots dry out super fast....
Hi there, they turned out great. My recommendation is to plant shallow root crops, such as strawberries, lettuce, spinach, radish, etc…
I also was concerned about not being able to turn the planters.
I’ve learned to just plant shade loving vegetables or flowers in the back that way there’s no hassle.
I bought these in bulk & then didn't really get around to setting them up (sigh)
Anyway, thanks for this content 💜💙💚
You’re welcome 😊 thanks for watching! They’ll be there when you’re ready to starting growing in them. I’m thinking of growing flowers in one.

I’m going to try ur idea! It’s really a perfect way to save space!
Lasha that was a great idea!
Thank You❤
Where did u get the apron from????
Hi there, I believe I ordered off Amazon. It’s held up pretty well.
can one put strawberry in these
Yes, absolutely! Strawberries have shallow roots and will grow perfectly in these vertical planters.
Are the wood posts 2x2's?
They are wood post 1x1.
Why wouldn’t you take all the labels off the plantars before you filled them with soil?
It wasn’t a concern. It’s all about growing food.
I cut a x into mines holds much better with wire or zip ties
Good to know. I set these in concrete due to our severe windstorms.
You should take off the labels--it detracts from the pretty appearance!
Thank you. I’m learning to take the tags off.
Update?
I’ll have an update video posted in a few weeks, stay tuned.
These dollar tree pots lack any plastic number rating... meaning they are likely toxic. Don't grow food in them 😟
Thanks for the info
@cindydj5796 Great observation and good to know!!!
Why don’t utubers take the labels off their pots , it takes 1 extra minute. It drives me crazy
Actually, l second😊
Funny!😆 I think we might be a little excited about growing food and forget about the labels.
They look so messy with the paper labels and will only get worse as sun and dirt and water get at them!
