Mostly skis getting in the 86-89 mph range then pump stuff is a danger.thats why you see most running packages maxed out at 83-85 before pump work is needed and the old way of getting rpms from shimming the cone doesn't help either.been on a few pump stuffed rides broke a wrist and ankle on one.and alot of dirty wet suits from crapping myself lol
Mine bucked on me while I was doing some tight turns the other day. Not sure it wasn't a bit of wake/chop though. Have added an intake grate and pump cone, was hoping that wasn't causing it. Looking an impeller, air intake, bov and tune next.
Oh goody, something else to look forward to with my fzr, purchased pre-loved and already full stage 1. Was advertised with Solas impeller but recently found out it's factory, however inside the housing also shows signs of being repaired so I'm assuming the Solas was destroyed and the oem went back in. My guess is that this would increase the chance of pump stuffing? BTW, another great, informative vid. Thanks Kevin.
@@watercraftjournal I'm in Oz but I'll drop him a line, cheers buddy. Saving for new impeller and housing atm, still getting over the outlay for new sc clutch. It also snapped the timing chain (common 2015 issue) but luckily that was sorted through dealer warranty. If this keeps up it's gunna be like a whole new ski soon lol. Thank God I bought it for a great price.
98 gsx ltd would stuff the pumps with slight mods done.and the rear intake grates on the pump shoe the inserts where pulling out on the Gtx ltd.did a ton of them back in the day
@@watercraftjournal Thank you, yes i was able to chop the throttle quickly her face slightly hit the bar pad scared her more than anything. Intake grate bolts 2 turns loose, I have to tighten them before every ride. Def not going to red locktite on them extreme salt water environment.

Can you make a topic of what you would do to have durable ski? I can imagine if you keep the max rpm at stock level but put some riva stuff on it, it will last longer. Like, ride plate, impeller, remove ribbon, blow off valve, intercooler, free flow exhaust, waterbox, spark plug, power filter.
@@watercraftjournal is it an idea to make a video about this and explain part for part why it isn’t reliable to do this? Would love to hear this from you!
22 Gp1800r on order and a riva stage 2. Should I be worried about this setup pump stuffing? Never experienced it with current gp1800. But be good to know if I can expect it at some stage. Cheers your youchoob is great!
It's actually called-blowing the tail-not bucking and can happen at slow speeds as well if to much flow over welhems the pump,to compensate jet boat drag racers which hit speeds much faster than any PwC use a device that makes the inlet area smaller the faster the craft goesout-there ended the lesson!
@@watercraftjournal before there were PWC,s jet boat drag racers it was called-blowing the tail- and killed drivers, call it any thing you like today,it can be very dangerous if it happens at high speed.....
FZ can pump stuff as low as 70 mph. From my experience and research an aftermarket intake geate can help alot aswell. I'm only doin 75 but doesn't do any scary stuff anymore
@bob-a-louannamaria7960 just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it can't happen. I've had it happen on my 09 fz just about broke my wrist. Only a 75 mph machine

Exactly! Pump cones have helped tremendously when it comes to this.

Hook up is crazy good now. When I land and get back on the throttle, it's just instant traction.
That's awesome! Glad that cleared it up!

No kidding! Good info.
my gpr did that to me a few months ago unfortunately w my Niece on board. Intake grate bolts got a bit too loose at 84 mph
Oh no! We hope everyone is OK

Dude... like, not even half of that list. The closer a ski is to stock, the more "reliable" it is.

Appreciated! Thus far, we haven't heard of the current GP hull having this issue with speeds up to 90mph. Above that, we just don't know.
The seadoo rxt-x 255 dose that to
The what?
Basically, a lesson that more is not always better. Watch out for what you wish - the unintended consequences….it’s always a balance…
That’s hot rodding
Ahh whilst the FZR is a great example of pump stuffing, but dont forget the ejecto seato wave raiders of the 1990s 😂
Thanks
You’re welcome!

There were very few instances of low speed "pump stuffing" with the FZ's, it was far more often above mid-70's, but yes, it did happen. -K
Not at all. I have a 15 FZS that runs 84-85 and has never pump stuffed
