    Thanks so much Peter I find it so awkward using a corking gun. This will be so much easier. You have taught me so much. My hubby was stoked when I showed him the saveatube too. Just love your videos They are a must for people who are new to the mosaic family like me.

    Another great video! I just purchase the smaller tubes of adhesive and don't have much of an issue. I like the horse sized syringe though for products that aren't available in the smaller tube!

      Thankyou very much, yes the smaller tubes are really good, over here I find them quite expensive compared to the larger ones but they certainly would be so much better. Thanks for watching. :)

    I love all of your videos, I’ve learned so much from them Peter! Do you know of anything I can use on the back of stain glass to make it opaque. Thanks Peter!

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  3 роки тому

      Thankyou so much Elaine, it depends where its going and what you plan to do with it as anything you paint onto the back of stained glass could eventually lift or fade unless it embeds into the glass. If there isn't a specific reason I would just use opaque glass, its reliable and just easier. For outside pieces some people use white thinset thats rated for glass to highlight the colours. :)

    What is blue tec? I HATE working with silicon, so thanks for the idea about the polymer, and now I know how to save my syringes.

      I find working with silicone type products to be a bit messy at times with the residue. Here's a video that I made on a similar product to Blu Tack my preference is the Bostik Blu Tack brand but they were out of stock so I used the Selleys one which I don't think is anywhere near as good. Thanks for commenting. :) ua-cam.com/video/sCMGjhKCJwM/v-deo.html

    love all your videos I am new to mosaic. I am working on a mirror outdoor table top and have some questions on using Soudal on a large area. ( I have already cut & placed on pattern when I learned mirror backing needs protected ) Can I ask you for some advice ?

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Рік тому

      Thankyou so much Charisse. I would be inclined to join a couple of the Facebook mosaic groups and create a post. Add some photos, information about where the piece is and the environment it’s in and the Tess you are using. The more information you can give the more accurate your answers will be. I generally dont give advice on projects because there are variables l cannot see that can influence the outcome. Unless you have a general question. 😊

    Hi Peter, what is SMX polymer? Is fix all the brand name and SMX type of the adhesive? I'm a bit confused

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mozhdeh, SMX Polymer is the type of adhesive and the product name is Fix All and the company name is Soudal. Other companies like Selleys also have their version of SMX polymer but under a different name. :)

    can you clarify the shelf life once in the horse tube, if not used in 2 days, should you empty the tube and save the tube for another project down the road? thank you Peter

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  3 роки тому

      Thankyou so much. I cant clarify as it depends on the environment that its in, however I generally replace the tube around the 4 or 5 day mark as the plunger can become difficult to push down and the inside can get a skim coat of dry silicone. I throw the syringe out but if you want to clean it out then give it a go. I generally don't use silicone type products only when I'm using mirror. :)

    Peter, just been watching this again to refresh my memory, I do however have a question if you please? I want to do an outdoor piece and I will be using thinset. I also want to incorporate some mirror bits in my piece and as you have said, thinset is not neutral curing. Any ways around this problem please? is there something I could paint on the back of the mirror to protect it do you think? thanks in anticipation of your answer. I am in the uk by the way. x

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Рік тому

      There are products that you can paint on the back of the mirror to protect it however I haven't found one that doesn't pose health risks to the person using it. Some people have used clear nail polish but I have no idea if that works or not. My suggestion would be to use a neutral curing adhesive like Soudal Crystal Clear Fix All, this is a similar product to how silicone works but it doesn't contain the solvents, its also available in the UK Caroline from Mango Mosaics uses it in some of her mosaics. You could also look at using Litokol epoxy grout however like everything you would need to look at reading the technical data sheets or call the UK distributor to make sure its going to be suitable for your job. The UK distributor in the UK is the Nicholas and Clarke Group. www.ncdirect.co.uk.

    How do you insure that black grout won't bleed under glass on a glass on glass mosaic and what is the best adhesive?

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  3 роки тому

      You need to ensure the back of the tess is completely covered with adhesive so the grout cannot get underneath. For a glass on glass I really love Mac Glue but its not suitable if you are adhering mirror as the reflecting backing can be effected. You would need to use a neutral curing adhesive in that instance, such as the one in this video or Prep MutliUse Adhesive. Heres a video I made on adhering mirror and rhinestones. :) ua-cam.com/video/nyltsixnXto/v-deo.html

    I came across your channel and found it very informative, I have a question I have done ceramic mosaic in a porcelain sink and then did the grout what can be used to seal it as it’s for the garden bird bath thanks in advance 😊

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  3 роки тому

      Thankyou so much Andrea, it depends what's available in your country and Im generalizing here and not speaking specifically about your job as there are always variables with any project that I cannot see. I would consider AFM Safecoat grout sealer or 511 Impregnator. However and very importantly you would need to read the products technical data sheets to ensure its suitable for your job, the tess you've used and the environment its in before buying or using any product. Also read the manufactures MSDS as both the technical and MSDS are very easy to read and generally available on their websites, you can always give the manufactures a call as well. It would also be advisable to do a small test sample first that you can create or a small area before doing the the complete birdbath. :)

      Me too. The syringe method looks great as well, but a bit more work. But, I'm going to seriously check out the polymer though. I live in the Canadian Rocky Mountains where it ranges btwn -40c and +40c, and the temp can go from -20c to +20c overnight, silicone has never failed me yet, but it's worth looking into.

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  3 роки тому

      @@MsK-xm7vw The syringe method I use on certain jobs and others I may use the baggie method, I find the syringe to be quite accurate but its personal choice. Just check the technical data sheets on the product you're looking at getting to see if it can handle the temperature ranges that it will be exposed to. Thanks for watching. :)

    Hi Peter thank you again for this informative tutorial. I have been using Soudal T-Rex Power SMX polymer because of its low toxicity and it is crystal clear, the downside is it dries extremely quickly and is tricky to use. It dries in less than 5 minutes so I would not be able to use it in a syringe. Does the Soudal product you use dry completely clear? Another product I bought recently is Sikaflex Crystal Clear, it states that it is solvent free on the front and this was it's attraction but then on the back of the bottle I have found it says it is combustible and the drying time to skin formation is 15 minutes. Have you used that at all? Thanks Lisa

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Lisa, thankyou very much appreciate that. I haven't had the drying issue you speak of, I would think the environment its in may have some impact on the curing time, I have been using it with the air conditioning on at room temperature around 20 Celsius. When I finish I come in the next day and can still use it out of the syringe providing I cap it as in the video. The one I use does cure totally clear, one of the things I like about it is I can come back in 20 minutes and just scrape it away from a piece of tess. I haven't used the Sixaflex product that you spoke about although I have used Sikaflex, I would read the manufactures MSDS to get the full rundown of the product. :)
