  • Welcome to my studio! Today I am weaving a v-cowl with Celtic Raven Fibres fingering yarn. I show how I wind the warp using the direct warping process as well as other tips for a successful project. Feel free to leave comments and questions and I will try to answer. A 3 minute time-lapse of this project is also available for viewing • Weaving a Houndstooth ...

    Beautiful project, I am excited to try this. I am curious how long you find a good length to weave the cloth before crossing it over? Also do you have a recomended tutorial for catching the opposite weft thread as you go through in case you don't want those longer loops on the edge?

    I should have watched this in its entirety before starting one. I've made many v-cowels but this was my first houndstooth v-cowl. I forgot to start weft with other color that left warp thread and I have double wide white. So mad at myself. ☹ But I love your instructional videos, thank so much Kari!

      Thank you for your kind words. There is so much that can go wrong with this project, so I know what you mean. My first ones definitely did not go well for me. I have found that I really need to keep good notes, because I will not remember those important details!

      @@KariFellWeaves I actually add to my notes from comment answers here in this thread and in others. When you explain something in detail I add it. You have totally helped me achieve perfect V-cowls, a couple months into making them. I appreciate that so much, and will always give you credit and tell people about you.

      You are welcome! I weave about 60 inches before weaving it back into itself.

    I must have missed something. What yarn are you using and what weight?

    • @KariFellWeaves
      @KariFellWeaves  5 місяців тому

      It's merino/nylon sock yarn, fingering weight, hand dyed by Celtic Raven Fibres.

    I love this and cannot wait to get my current scarf off my look to make a V cowl! How long do you make your warp please?

    • @KariFellWeaves
      @KariFellWeaves  2 роки тому +2

      If I direct warp, it is 8 feet long (the length of my work table). If I use a warping board, I make it 9 feet.

  • @maggiepatterson7949
    @maggiepatterson7949 3 роки тому

    Warping this way means all threads of the first color go over the apron bar; all of the threads of the second color go under the apron bar....correct?

    • @KariFellWeaves
      @KariFellWeaves  3 роки тому +1

      No, the threads go over and under the back apron bar just like any direct warping. The only difference is you skip a slot in the heddle as you go along. If you try to go over every time, the yarn would never catch the bar.

    Can I ask: How long does it usually take to weave a cowl like this?

    • @KariFellWeaves
      @KariFellWeaves  2 роки тому +2

      I can usually do the entire project (warping and weaving) in a day or two if I have nothing else on my plate. But in reality, I work on it over 3-4 days.

  • @JanetMorganmorgana
    @JanetMorganmorgana 3 роки тому

    brilliant....what size heddle are you using, please?

  • @maggiepatterson7949
    @maggiepatterson7949 3 роки тому

    Heddle is down while warping, correct? ie., not in neutral?

    • @KariFellWeaves
      @KariFellWeaves  3 роки тому +2

      Heddle is in neutral while warping. That way all threads are traveling straight and have the same tension.
