  • Yoruba is BIGGER than NIGERIA TOO is more like the part 2 of the first video in a much better way. Who are the yorubas? What were they like during the pre colonial era? What is Oyo Empire? Here are some of the questions i answered in less then 30 min long video. Yoruba is truly bigger than Nigeria and Africa at large. The video is what anybody that want to know more about yoruba history to watch. The difference between oyo ile and oyo alaafin. The history of Yoruba clothing can be traced back to the pre-colonial period, when the Yoruba people had a thriving textile industry. The Yoruba are known for their cloth weaving, and in the past, women would weave cloth to clothe their households. Before the arrival of Europeans, the Yoruba wore only hand-woven clothing. Ebonite was a thick, hand-woven cloth used to cover the private parts of both men and women

Before Oyo empire, there was Owu empire, before Owu was Ife empire. That 12th century dating them gave us was so they could be older than us. They were found in Ogboni compound, the heads are called "Iya" and brought out once in a year. Meanwhile, Ife had been embroiled in war long before then, social life had been disrupted, the annual Ogboni meeting suspended. Therefore, that 12th century dating can only mean that was when last the Iya was brought out, and not when it was made. Also, Ogun was introduced to Ado Ibini in about 400AD ( according to Benin themselves) and began bronze casting then, so how can we who taught them the work have artefacts much younger than theirs?

You are damn correct on the literacy. Ifa olokun has a very comprehensive digital information and interpretation which is analogous to computer binary operation of modern day. It's unfortunate that we left our own to decay while substituted it for the lesser quality of the European. Even our culture is appealing to humanity than most western culture and I can say this without fear that anytime I display Yoruba culture of respect and civility even among the Europeans they tend to be unconsciously love it.

Problem with many Africans, especially Nigerians of specific tribes is to be verbally attacking others working on bringing out their history. Why not focus on your own people history. Please don't mention Benin Kingdom when talking about Yorubas. Benin was just a kingdom, not an Empire. Do you even know the difference. And the history of Benin Kingdom, just like Oyo Empire, is quite recent, just some centuries ago. Yoruba's Ile-Ife go back to the beginning of time. It's folks like you that would collaborate with Europeans to try destroy other people's history. Do you know how much historical records Britain stole from Nigeria. Few tribes, specifically in the north collaborated with them. Abi suffer no dey tire you all. Work together rather continue on shallow baseless attacks on eachother. Part of Yorubas history could also be part of your own people's history. You Nigerians do not know the amount of history hiding inside your country. Na blindness dey worry una.
