I also have a T-GT2 and picked up the T598. "Gear Jolt" vs "Transducer" is not a worthy trade-off. It needs both. The Gear Jolt feels good, and would entice me more if I was a dedicated "Race" car driver. I myself gravitate more towards Modified Street Cars and the Gear Jolt does not align with how those cars feel in real life. Also the Transducer provided much more overall "feedback" through my entire Sim Rig. The software for the T598 is unfinished and the adapter for the older Thrustmaster wheels is janky at best. Having dipped my toe into the DD wheel market, unless Thrustmaster and GT7 work together to get this sorted (which should have been done prior to launch) this is much more of a side-grade for a T-GT/T-GT2 wheel
Coming from a T300, I feel the wheel grip better on the T598. That said, I’m missing many sensations that I expect to feel (i.e. vehicle weight and curbs). My belief is that these issues will be corrected with full GT7 compatibility. I REALLY like the wheel now, but I think I’ll LOVE it once it is fully supported. Btw, it feels really good on ACC on PS5.
i ordered the T598 as well and have currently the T300RS for GT7. So do you think the T598 is much better right now? The 300RS always feels like its gona brake inside, thats at least my feeling, you also could feel some"play" inside, is that with the T598 the same?
@@danbarb9728It’s much better from my perspective. It feels more solid and the wheel feels more firmly mounted. More importantly, it doesn’t overheat and lose FFB in the middle of a race. I have the T248, and bought and received the T598 yesterday. I am loving it, and as soon as Polyphony supports this wheel ( I just chose TGT), it will just get even better. 😃
Thanks for the video and insights. Currently playing on a G29 and want to upgrade end of year to a better wheel. Really hope this is going to be good after the next GT update as the price point of this wheel is just right. Looking forward to future updates and videos. Cheers!
I just switched from a g29 and it's a huge improvement. I expect that it will get better once gt7 gets optimized for it but even as it is it's a big improvement from the g29.
I’m right with you guys, full g29 setup with ‘truebrake mod’ pretty content with it but this setup at $500 looks promising. Reviews have been hit or miss though. I’m only searching for Gran Turismo compatible
Thank you for this. I'll wait for them to make it compatible/update the FFB on GT7 before I pull the trigger. One it happens I expect you to test it out :D
Out of all the Reviews I have watched this guy was the only one who could tell me what I wanted to know about it. Thank you now I can make an actual video about it that will be helpful to T-GT II owners and people who want to upgrade for GT7
I’m upgrading from a g29 and I love this wheel. Feels so much better. The wheel is compatible but not calibrated for GT7. It registers as the TGT2 when you go into control settings. So I’ve heard they’re supposed to update the game to accommodate the wheel better. I do get that floaty feeling too especially over curbs but I’ll take this over the g29 any day 😂
I also tried t598 over my previous tgt2, I have the exact same concern as you have, just too weak on ffb in terms of the feeling the wight of the car. It’s a very clear difference on driving up eau rouge SPA, the car just feels harder to control with t598. To me if tgt is 6nm, t598 only reaches around 3nm when driving normally. I really wish this is a software issue that thrustmaster will optimize. (since I do feel the hardware is capable of producing more torque under other circumstances)
Great review. Heard polyphony working on optimizing for t598. Not sure how accurate this is. But waiting to see if that lack of granularity is a wheelbase thing or software optimization thing. Thats why i suggested trying ACC. Coz if you get lots of feedback then its a gt7 optimizing thing. Plus if updates improves things then we know
It's pretty optimized already as good as the TG-T/TG-T II best DD wheel i have for GT7 I'll make a video soon explaining why and properly showing how to get the maximum out of the wheel. This is not a great review and is does it no justice. The T598 is one of the coolest wheels I've used coming from TG-T/TG-T II, podium and DD Pro that says a lot.
@apokalypz It's not a good review? It's litterly my experience using the wheel. If you have settings to share that you claim makes this the best DD wheel, why not share them here.

@apokalypz I was literally sent the settings to use from Thrustmaster themselves. Just thought I would put that out there. I also have nothing to gain or lose with my review. Just sharing my experience.
Confirming my doubts as T-GT user with the T598 - its quick and accurate, but lacks the feel of weight and grip. The most important part of force feedback to me. The DD-hype gets the better of many people. Its like buying an electric skoda thinking its a better race car than old 911 just because it new tech. Lets hope they get it sorted out with updates so we dont need to wait for another Thrustmaster base to upgrade from T-GT.
Direct drive is a better technology period. I have a ts-xw and its a great wheel, but it is an inferior technology. I was hoping this new console dd was going to be more along the lines of the t818, but its not, so its not an upgrade for someone like me. The forces youre talking about is damping. Most games have a setting for this, if thats what you want to feel you raise that setting. The downside to high wheel damper is the loss of finer details, but to each their own.
As of now the tgt2 is still better for gt7, but the 598 is better on other games. They need to make some updates to the software it has the power just needs updates. I went back to the tgt2 today and yea gt mode is the big difference here
The lightness in turning sounds like a centering force issue. If there is a centering force setting on the base maybe try turning that up a bit a time till you get the desired outcome. Centering force as the name suggest, is the force applied to the wheel to re-center it when turning. So the higher it is, the more the wheel will feel like its loaded from the wieght of the car.
Cas, I own a Logi G Pro, and a criticism of that wheelbase was that it, too, had a plastic cover. Geez, when are people gonna realise the internals are metal, and the bottom of the base is metal? The 598 and G Pro actually look more substantial than some "all-metal" alternatives. And as far as looks go, the G Pro, like the 598, also came in for criticism. Like you, I'm a VR-only driver, so could not give a monkey's. Yeah, I get it if people are driving on a screen setup. Maybe. Good and honest review.
I highly endorsed the Logitech DD pro it's an excellent wheel. The truforce since the update I feel has been upgraded as well it definitely adds a bunch of feel to the rumble strips bumps and such engine noise even makes a little bit of a vibration. So for those folks wanting this wheel by thrustmaster just wait for gt7 to make it compatible and I'm sure you'll get those feelings in the direct drive wheel as well.
@@hansjensen-r9i realistically it would be taller, but I'm not sure the scale ratio increase as power increases. If they took the current drive system, shrunk it down and used multiple of them in synch with one another they could have obtained the same power but in the form factor of pre-existing direct drive bases. Of course that likely would've increased the price. So I tend to think it's shape came down to cost saving measures. For them and the end user.
Interesting Cas.. some comments on I racing feeling good.. maybe give that a whirl just to see how much it's got until the next update.. I read somewhere they are working with PD on it.. I did think it odd at recent expo they were only letting people try GT7 rally where there is obviously a lot more texture.. other thing is try a few different cars as I've noticed even on tgtii since last GT7 update feedback is all over the place. Some cars I'm on 7 some on 3. Used to be about 5 for everything 🤷🏼♂️
I did try a few different cars within the game. They all have that weightless feeling when exiting. I'll give iRacing a go, but this wheel base really needs to exceed at GT7, for it to make an impact.
@@thecasualracinggamer totally agree, was just wondering if it would give us a better idea if the wheel is capable of it and it's just settings and updates
I am an ACC console player and looking for the T598 base alone release. Software update are coming as they said at the ADAC (they said it on a french TM ambassador streamer video).
Unless an update changes things...I'll be sending mine back. Who thought using a USB connection on the back of the base was ideal?!?! One good bump and that thing is breaking immediately. For me personally, The "Gear Jolt" does not make up for the lack of Transducer. That provided much more overall "feedback" through my Sim Rig and pedals. I had never tried a DD wheel, but after this one, the belts on my T-GT2 are not a drawback. It actually makes it feel more like a road car with a physical connection to the "car" Edit: Thrustmaster should have delayed releasing the wheel until it was dialed in for THE game that 99% of people who are buying this wheel will be playing...GT7 Like every other company, they wanted the sales with the holidays coming and were ok with "patching" their way to success. Like all the AAA game studios do these days.
Agreed: my only experience of sim racing is GT7 and ACC on PS5 using the Logitech G29, but the difference in force feedback between the two is night and day. After ACC, I'm left feeling that PD could do so much more.
Hi great review ive also seen other videos where they are stating the same concerns as yourself yes it could be that gt7 game needs an update to get the best out of this wheel ?? the T598 doesnt seem to have a constant weighty feel to it through out the range only when it pushes up to 10Nm would that be a fair assumption ?? I am undecided about the T598 as i have a TgT 1 had it since launch in 2017 never had any issues so im undecided do i next buy the T598 wheelbase only as i have other wheels and the tlc pedals or upgrade to the TGT 2 wheel base ?? One thing for sure i think the TGT belt driven wheel hub is very underated i feel its on par with the T598 but just feels different and maybe different in a better way ?? any thought on this anyone ??
T-GT II definitely feels different and gives a different experience. Some might not even like it and just write it odd as old tech anyway. Choices are great, and not everyone will like the same things. I would think GT7 will see improvements for the T598, but time will tell.
I must say, that for all of us here that enjoy the whole racing simulation. I f you have taken the step from controller to wheel and pedals, and already have a state approved drivers license, then you have chosen a path with a more realistic feel. You are to be commended for that. Only speaking now for GT7, if you have gone through there licensing requirements to achieve master license, Bravo, hopefully this has made you a more competitive and fair racing competitor. Now if you have done what I , CAS, and many others by racing in Virtual Reality, then you truly are addicted to this sport. Now the equipment you obtain should be the best you can afford. You may have😂 already shelled over $5-600 for the PS5 and another $600 for the PSVR, and are considering $500- $1600+ for the rig. But if race almost every chance you can, at least an hour+ a day, that’s 40+ hours a month or close to 500 hours a year, then invest in the best you can. For myself I have gone from a logitech G923 to a logitech pro wheel and pedals with no regrets other than the physic changes can be a big learning curve, but there are UA-camrs out here that have provided good advice. I am sure the T598 is a good choice if it provides the immersion you are looking for. The force feed back I get on my rig is just so realistic feeling.
Thanks for the feedback on the T598, I'm keeping an eye on it because I intend to get it in the future, nice to meet you, I'm the guy who starts first in your review video
Please try the first asetto corsa because have by far the best ffb ever made on any racing game , so please make a video about the ffb with the first Ac on ps5 ( the assetto corsa competizione has also good ffb but no were close to ac )
@thecasualracinggamer great review. My question for you is had you paid for it would you be keeping it. I bought one my self and feel everything you’re talking about and makes me wanna return it and go with something else. I just don’t know if it’s because gt7 is not optimized for the wheel yet or if that’s just how it’s gonna be.
If I paid for it, I would probably give it until the return period is near to see if any updates come out to improve it. Currently, I enjoy the T-GT II more. For me, it's not even which wheel I might be faster with. It's more about which one gives me a more fun, enjoyable experience.
Check the Thrustmaster site for the quick release add-on. They show the compatible wheels that can be upgraded. I don't believe that wheel is listed, but I could be wrong.
@thecasualracinggamer YT will not handle redit links. Search for: «T598 is my favorite bundle so far» And «Is anyone here disappointed with T598?» Bot threads has info.
Can somebody with the T598 tell me how much taller the wheel gets with that mounting adapter bracket ? I need to solder the bracket onto my mounting plate because it would support only two screws, that might be not stable. Im scared that the mounting bracket bringst to much height toi the wheel, i guess the ideal solution would be mounting it directly but my sim cockpit is not compatible and drilling holes will also not work since the bottom side is kind of blocked from another plate, so i have to solder the adapter onto my current plate is the only way i think. I preorderd the T598 here in europe. I currently have the T300RS and only play GT7, so i hope there will be an update as well. The reason i sell the T300RS after only 1 months is the T598 and i feel the T300RS is not solid and reliable, i dont think it will survive several years constant use.
10-15nm is where it's at in all honesty. 5nm wheels don't really have a place in the market in my opinion as they're lacking the granularity in feedback. The lack of torque makes the product feel cheap even if the build quality is high.
These lower-powered wheels DO have a place, but elitists may not agree, obviously. I recall Mihael Matika (Digit Gaming) buying one of the first Fanatec DD Pros. It was the 5nm model, and he was perfectly happy with it. Yes, he's upgraded since, but he was setting top 100 times in Daily Races and is a genuine top-tier racer. I'm betting if you asked him, his opinion would be very different from yours.
I think the issue you have, is that youre feeling gt7s regular ffb. The tgt 2 has extra ffb features specifically for gt7, this wheel does not. I know you dont want to because you dont care, but you should try another game just to give a little better comparison for your viewers. I personally still think this new dd isnt particularly an upgrade if you have a tgt 2, but for people with a t300ish type of wheel this is a good step up.
1:51 What do you mean ACC is not available in VR?.... oh you mean the Playstation version? yeah, that might be right.. but the pc version has a (bad) vr option.
Its weird that only people under this video have this troubles i watched many german reviews and english ones and its the first time someone says that the feedback is too weak or that you cant feel the kerbs Maybe you tried the wrong settings
I used Thrustmasters' recommended settings. Everything was turned up. People will have different opinions. If coming from a T-GT II, there is a big difference in feel. It's unfortunate we didn't get an 8nm DD wheel for console from them. It's almost like they said that console players don't need anything too great. It's weaker than belt drive wheel that's been out for years.
Interesting video, I think you might be on to something here. I recently did similar to you and upgraded from a TGT2 to direct drive but i went with the Logitech G-Pro as i wasn’t prepared to wait till end of November in Uk and had my suspicions it would feel more like a sideways move from a TGT2. My initial feeling of the G-pro was that i was a bit disappointed tbh with how it felt in GT7. Same kind of feeling to you, it felt very smooth, but also vague, difficult to feel the weight like you say. So i wonder if this is just a hallmark of direct drive on GT7? As in iracing the difference is in my opinion night and day compared to the TGT2, can feel weight and it feels savage power wise. Maybe a future update might address the GT7 FFB. I have however gotten used to the need wheel and have learnt to interpret the more subtle feedback from direct drive on GT7 i think following a few weeks of use.
You got damping and smoothing that you can adjust in your g pro profiles. I would play around with that. Damping adds weight to the wheel while smoothing lets you increase ffb strength without bumps and curbs hitting you as hard. I think GT7 limits ffb to 8NM but it should still feel substancially better than the TGT2.
I love my TGT2 so much don't see me upgrading for years, best thing I ever bought! Along with my racing seat and psvr2.

It actually makes it feel more like a road car with a physical connection to the "car"
Edit: Thrustmaster should have delayed releasing the wheel until it was dialed in for THE game that 99% of people who are buying this wheel will be playing...GT7
Like every other company, they wanted the sales with the holidays coming and were ok with "patching" their way to success. Like all the AAA game studios do these days.
It's 100% a GT7 thing brother
Hey, thanks for stopping by! 🙏
I'm wondering if its a software optimizing thing too. I'd say give it a couple more weeks and see if there's any news on that front
If I paid for it, I would probably give it until the return period is near to see if any updates come out to improve it. Currently, I enjoy the T-GT II more. For me, it's not even which wheel I might be faster with. It's more about which one gives me a more fun, enjoyable experience.
I have the T248 and after recent gt7 update to physics my wheel feel light on some tracks were it didn't before
Does the tgt2 rim fit on the t598 I really adore the tgt2 rim
Check the Thrustmaster site for the quick release add-on. They show the compatible wheels that can be upgraded. I don't believe that wheel is listed, but I could be wrong.
@@thecasualracinggamer thanks for the reply buddy I’ll check it out on their site the t598 is out November 19th in united kingdom
Think I saw something about Thrustmaster reaching out on redit. The floatiness is a settings thing if I understand correctly
Let me know what setting they said if you can find it.
@thecasualracinggamer
YT will not handle redit links. Search for: «T598 is my favorite bundle so far»
And «Is anyone here disappointed with T598?»
Bot threads has info.
Thanks for the info. Everything in those threads were already done when I started testing my T598.
@@thecasualracinggamer
Wow. Thanks. Vital info.
I have the thrustmaster gtg 2 also, and I only play GT7 only, in your opinion is this worth upgrading to??
What's the cheapest GPU you would recommend for iracing vr
My two cents - the cheapest GPU you'd want for any gaming in this day and age should be an RTX 3060 or AMD equivalent within that price range.
More like, what's the most you are willing to spend. To get a good VR experience, you need power.
👀 👍
Hey Mr, Casual what mode do you run the T598. Sport. Performance ???
My settings are in the description.
@@thecasualracinggamerwow missed the description, thank you so much for your input
Does the tgt wheel fit onto the new base?
I actually think the T-GT II stock wheel feels rather small, but I'm not sure if the quick release upgrade is even compatible with it.
@@thecasualracinggamer thanks for the reply. I was just curious because i much prefer the button layout on the tgt wheel.
Here is a list of wheels. www.thrustmaster.com/en-us/products/quick-release-upgrade/
GT7s Feedback and everything is written for Belt driven wheels. Hope they will fix this.
1:51 What do you mean ACC is not available in VR?.... oh you mean the Playstation version? yeah, that might be right.. but the pc version has a (bad) vr option.
Sorry, should have said ACC on Playstation.
Seems this is a great wheel on PC but a average/good wheel on PS5.
Its weird that only people under this video have this troubles i watched many german reviews and english ones and its the first time someone says that the feedback is too weak or that you cant feel the kerbs
Maybe you tried the wrong settings
Good info!
Sounds like firmware, but Fanatec FTW.
its like moza with brook ras1ution 2, same problems, its gt7 problem, bc its so "special and exclusive". Works good in any other game
So making the wheel heavier on my Fanatec DD Pro it ruins the overall feedback.
It sounds just like my Fanatec DD Pro I 100% love my T-GT II significantly more than my Fanatec DD Pro. GT7 is designed around a belt drive wheel
🙏
Up is the opposite of down
That's a great point you make.
5nm not enough for what you want to feel
5Nm is more than enough for what you need to feel
@ I guess you never used more then 5nm b4
Unless your turning the wheel a good bit u dont feel traction like tgt2 the wheel slip isnt working.
ACC evo is coming compatible with psvr2 2025 👍 adios gt7 😂
Has this been confirmed?
